The Hills Have Eyes (2006) - don't watch many horror movies these days so I don't really have a point of reference but I thought this was pretty good. My wife thought it was 'too much'  ;D
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Goonies - haven't seen this in years, fortunately just as much as I remembered!

Wow DB. The one in the middle, whoa. I love the Goonies, and thankfully my kids love the movie too.

dragonboy

Yeah apparently that's Andy  :o

I almost forgot that Josh Brolin was in the movie! From Goonies to No Country For Old Men  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Two DVDs yesterday:

The Prestige - it was OK

The Assassination of Jesse James etc etc - Couldn't really get into it; I found it far too slow.
The trouble with the straight and the narrow is it's so thin, I keep sliding off to the side

So not feeling Assassination of Jesse James then, huh Mark? It seems most people's complaints are with you that it was too slow. Im not someone who is turned off by a moving being slow, esp this one because I thought the acting, dialogue, cinematography, lighting, etc. were all fantastic. It was one of my favorite movies from 07, and I think Pitt's performance was the best of his career, and should have earned him an oscar nod and in my eyes victory (for another place, but I also thought Viggo in Eastern Promises was exceptional and better than DDLewis). Little Affleck was very good, but I think Pitt stole the show which makes me wonder how he got a nomination and Pitt didnt

That Goonies picture's great! Im guessing its like a 20th anniversary shot, so from 2005 Id think? Chunk looks funny still, and Andy looks dy-no-mite. Wouldnt mind getting stuck in a cavern with her

I think this move looks hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSI15ltIacI

A movie with RDJ as a black dude has got to be funny

I think some thought The Assassination of Jesse James was going to be an old fashioned shoot 'em up and thus, didn't really like the film. Instead, Jesse James is an excellent example of a psychological western and bio-pic mixed with a bit of Terrance Malick's Days of Heaven. I absolutely loved it. You can feel the cold, desperation and malice in every scene. In fact, I think Jesse James can sit comfortably next to some of the great psychological westerns like (just to name a few off the top of my head): Deadwood; films by Anthony Mann like The Far Country and Bend of the River; along with the troubling The Ox-Bow Incident and the original 3:10 to Yuma (a superior film to the glitzy remake).

I thought TAOJJBTCRF was beautifully shot, but my problems with it were:

1.  I felt no connection to Pitt or Ford.  I thought the best performance came from Ford's brother (played by Sam Rockwell).

2.  It suffered from what the missus and I call "Last Man Standing" syndrome; ie. you know where the film is going from the first frame.  It's fine to try and build tension when the outcome is unknown, but...

I love a slow film, but for me this one just didn't pay off.  Ho hum - to each his own.

PS - Jaimoe - if you're going to run around using an alias, I'd recommend casting your net a bit wider when thinking of names.  ;)

I understand what youre saying about having the knowledge of the outcome, and I guess looking at it from that angle, it could be hard to get into it since it was 3 hrs and not exactly action packed. It didnt bother me though because I thought tension was built through whats JJ going to do next and how exactly will he be killed. And actually, there were times where I thought does Ford actually pull the trigger, or do his actions (turning him in, leading him into a trap, etc) lead to the assassination

However, its hard for me to believe you couldnt get into Pitt's performance as JJ. In a career filled with memorable and great performances (12 monkeys, seven, sleepers, fight club, kalifornia, devils own, snatch), I think this was, almost hands down, his best.

Maybe your lack of interest in the movie overall lead you not really get into and focus on Pitts performance, but to each his own

I didn't want to deceive anyone. I hate having to log-on different computers. I think I'll stick with this name when I'm at work, like right now.

I'm about to watch what's pretty much my favourite movie ever.  I think I'm going to need to replace my DVD copy before too long.

What movie is this?? Ive never really been a Woody Allen fan personally. His style of comedy doesnt really do it for me. Im more of a Coen Bros or Judd Apatow style comedy guy

It's the opening scene of Annie Hall.  He's certainly got some gems - Hannah and Her Sisters, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Bananas and The Purple Rose of Cairo are some of my other favourites.  Some of his others, not so great...

No matter how many times I watch this movie it never fails to have an impact on me...one of the greatest horror movies of all time!

Think! Just think what you're doing!

Think what you're doing! Think!

In the name of God, think what you're doing!

Oh, my God! Christ!

No, no, dear God!
