Saw 'Paradise Lost 1+2' on consecutive nights at the ICA (London) a couple of years ago. Absolutely chilling pieces of work.

I hear the three boys/men convicted are still on deathrow pending further appeals...

QuoteCarlito's Way - I thought it was better than Scarface.
Have you seen Donnie Brasco? That's another must see Pacino classic.

Yes, I liked it very much. I just finished watching Insomnia, he was excellent as usual in that as well.
What about Serpico? Heat? The Insider? Dog Day Afternoon? Sea Of Love? All excellent Pacino movies.

Just Dog Day Afternoon. I'll try to get to some of those eventually.

HEAT may very well be my favorite Pacino or De Niro movie ever. Only movie where Al P and Bobby D actually have a scene together with dialogue too (surprising, no?). But that aside, this movie kills and as much as I really like some other Michael Mann movies (Last of the Mohicans, Collateral, The Kingdom), this one certainly takes the cake.

Pacino and De Niro are almost certainly both in my Top 5 favorite actors (probably with Edward Norton, Jack Nicholson, and Brad Pitt - though those 3 may change some times), and I would have no problem calling that my favorite - well, its at least in the Top 3 with Goodfellas and Casino  :)

either way, def see it

I saw Into the Wild last night, better than I even expected, though the end was real sad. Ive liked Emile Hirsch for awhile now (Girl Next Door, Alpha Dog, Lords of Dogtown, Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys) and think he's one of the most talented actors of the young generation alongside ppl like Ryan Gosling (see United States of Leland or The Believer or Half Nelson) and Joseph Gordon Levitt (see Brick or The Lookout).

Favorite part of the movie - "So I gotta wait 11 years just to paddle down a freakin river?!" To true

Flags of Our Fathers - excellent and important (especially for Americans) bio-war film. Ryan Phillippe got some early Oscar buzz at the time, but it's really Canadian Adam Beach's film. His portrayal of tortured native soldier Ira Hayes - whom he amazingly resembles - is fantastic. Flags finds Clint Eastwood at the top of his directing game. Well done.

I'll make Heat the next Pacino movie I see. We need a favorite actor thread.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

This is actually probably one of my least favorite war movies Ive ever seen. I agree with Beach being very good, as he usually is, though I think Phillippe is a pretty bad actor and the only movie I even somewhat like that hes in is The Way of The Gun (you know, the ridiculously underrated next movie from the director of Usual Suspects). Its real hard for my not to enjoy modern war or historic war epics (I even liked Troy and Alexander quite a bit), but I thought this movie was pretty dull - and Phillippe I think really added to that to me. Even more surprising, I love almost every recent movie Eastwood's directed (Unforgiven, Mystic River, True Crime, Blood Work, Midnite Garden of Good&Evil), but this movie still did absolutely nothing for me.

I respect the rememberance of the plot, and have yet to see Iwo Jima, but I really thought this was 1 of Clint's worst and I was uninterested halfway thru.

Sweeny Todd. I liked it, my wife hated it and she's the muscial fan. Very bloody. I wasn't expecting it to be THAT graphic.

I enjoy most JD movies but I didnt expect it to be THAT musical, especially for a Tim Burton movie. I was baked, so maybe thats why the music got to me so quicked, because I liked the rest of it to that point.

So I guess I should give it another chance ?

Probably. It's a famous stage musical. Normally stage shows do not have rivers of blood in them. I actually enjoyed his singing. It worked for the show.

Cave Of The Yellow Dog - a very simple, incredibly beautiful, brilliant film about a family of Mongolian nomads. Definitely not for everyone but highly recommended if you're a fan of world cinema.

I saw Cloverfield in the theater and it was awesome but I'm hesitant to watch it again.  The big screen and cinema sound were such a large part of why I liked it.

I'm watching AI right now.

Saw La Cité des enfants perdus the other day and it blew me away. What a fantastic movie! I definitely have to see all the other movies by Jeunet. Amélie is great, too. I think one of my friends has Delicatessen on DVD...

Watched 2 Last Nite:

Revolver - this is a Guy Ritchie movie that I never heard of. Not bad, but nowhere near as good as Snatch or Lock, Stock. It does come together by the end, but it was a little too confusing/out there during the 45 minutes to think it was any better than good. Im all about a good twist or ending if the movie helps build up to it and slyly hint or explain it thru out the movie, but I didnt have that feeling with this one.

Shoot Em Up - hah, almost like a spoof of action movies. Entertaining and pretty funny at the same time. Clive Owen's good as usual and Paul Giamatti has a funny turn as the bad guy. Its kind of like Sin City, minus the comic book and a slightly more realistic story. Worth watching IMO

The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas - Gotta say, this one is great. Burt and Dolly are just perfect together. I'd love to see a theatrical production!

Okay over the last two weeks I've been diggin into my local video store's 5 For 5 deal (five movies, fice days, $5) and I've been back three or four times. Here's what I've been watching...

[big inhale]

Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
(excluding Night, this might be my favorite of Romero's)
Land of the Dead
Diary of the Dead

(they don't have the original soundtrack version of Night of the Living Dead, so I opted out of that one until I can see it as it was originally made)
Bubba Hotep
The Crazies
Eraserhead
(Holy fuck.)
Zombie (We Are Going To Eat You!)
Return of the Living Dead (Brains!! -- I love it!)
Memento (Awesome!!)
The Day the Earth Stood Still (probably in my top 5 favorite movies now)
The Hills Have Eyes (1977)
The Day Evelyn Came Out of the Grave (not hardly worth watching)
White Zombie (relatively boring but significant as the first actual zombie movie)
Slither (pretty funny and a good take on the genre)
The Evil Dead
Evil Dead 2
Army of Darkness
(definitely my favorite of the trilogy, and a great little shout-out to The Day the Earth Stood Still in there!)
28 Days Later
28 Weeks Later
(holy shit, what a great movie)

[/breathe]

Wow, going back for more in a minute here...
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

Just picked up:

Heavy Metal
House of 1000 Corpses
The Devil's Rejects
The Host
and Some Kind of Monster (the Metallica doc)

Popping in SKoM right now!
