Expendables does look cool. The cast sounds very intriguing. You get action legends Sly and Ahnold, current action king Statham, B movie action king Dolph Lundgren, character guys like Danny Trejo and Terry Crews, martial arts master Jet Li, and then "new-old school" badasses Rourke and Eric Roberts.

Thats quite the mix  :o [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

QuoteI don't see Johnny Depp as Sinatra at all.

thats what Im saying.

both have the chops, and DiCaprio has surprised me numerous times and might be able to pull it off, but there's an actor who is better suited for this part than either of them.

Yeah DiCaprio is definitely the better suited of the 2. Capt James T Kirk maybe?  ;)

Umm surely not?  :(

Foxx To Play Sinatra?

18 May 2009 1:00 AM, PDT

Jamie Foxx has been tipped to play late Rat Pack crooner Frank Sinatra, according to reports.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Harry Connick Jr. were among the names rumoured to be in contention for the role after it was announced earlier this month that filmmaker Martin Scorsese will direct a biopic.

But now African-American actor Foxx, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in 2004's Ray, has emerged as the favourite to play Ol' Blue Eyes.

And studio bosses are convinced Foxx has the charisma and talent to tackle the role of Sinatra, who died in 1998.

An insider tells Britain's Daily Star, "Jamie would seem to be born to the role. Magnificent voice, convincing acting ability - like Frank himself - born the wrong side of the tracks, makes it big against all odds, has his brush with authority. The guy's a gift."

EDIT: this makes a little more sense  ;D

Tyson Ok With Foxx To Portray Him

17 May 2009 6:35 PM, PDT

Retired boxer Mike Tyson has given Oscar winner Jamie Foxx the Ok to play him in a planned biopic after warming to the actor/comedian's famous impersonation.

Tyson admits he was very angry with Foxx the first time he saw the Ray star poking fun at him on U.S. TV show In Living Color - but the two men have recently met and now the sports star feels the actor is the best man to portray him in a film.

And Tyson insists he's grown up a lot since the days he went hunting for Foxx to let him know exactly what he thought of the funnyman's impression.

He says, "I was trying to catch him to let him know what I felt about it... It was just a form of flattery and I was just young back then and I had a little self-esteem (issue) and insecurity."
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

I didnt see what you quoted for the Sinatra movie on the link, but surely you have got to be shittin me with Foxx playing Sinatra.

Harry Connick Jr I never wouldve thought of, but he's been solid in every movie that Ive seen him in. This role would have a lot more depth to it than the others he has had, but maybe he can can pull it off.

...Jamie Foxx as Mike Tyson in a biopic would be RADICAL. I think its a little early for a Tyson biopic (how are they going to end it?), but I would definitely go see it.

Harry Connick is the first guy I thought of. Early in his career, he was continually compared to Sinatra.

Appearance and singing ability/style he should easily be the top choice. I just dont know if his acting ability is good enough to give this movie the chance to be as good as Ray or Walk The Line which were very good movies elevated by great performances by Foxx and Phoenix.

Jamie Foxx is just wrong. Same as you can't have a white guy play James Brown, Isaac Hayes or Marvin Gaye etc you can't have an African American play Sinatra.

Was there seriously an article saying that on IMDB, or did they fuck up and then change it from the Sinatra biopic to the Tyson movie?!

I dont think there's a snowball's chance in hell theyre actually considering Foxx for Sinatra (and if I was him I wouldnt even take the part), but I didnt see that article on the link you had. For real, you cant race swap for shit like this. It would make it unwatchable because you would just keep thinking about that.

Yeah, Im pretty sure that whole Foxx as Sinatra thing is BS/hearsay.

1 thing I didnt realize was that Foxx won best actor according to 1 of those pieces. Did he?! I think I remember him being nominated, but I forgot that he won, if he did (which was likely deserved without me remembering who else was nominated that year).

Yes he did win in 2004. His competition was:

Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda)
Johnny Depp (Finding Neverland)
Leonardo DiCaprio (The Aviator)
Clint Eastwood (Million Dollar Baby)

...IMO he deserved to win compared to the other nominations. The only performance that even came close was Cheadle's, but I dont think it was quite as good. I didnt feel like I was watching an actor here, I thought I was watching Ray himself. Very great performance.

What surprises me more is that he lost for Best Supporting Actor that same year (dont give a guy too many awards!?):

Alan Alda (The Aviator)
Thomas Haden Church (Sideways)
Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby)
Jamie Foxx (Collateral)
Clive Owen (Closer)

In that group, IMO Foxx's only competition is THC (hah!) in Sideways, but based on the roles Ive seen him in, thats almost his natural character. I thought Collateral was surprisingly fantastic, and Foxx was great in an unassuming, passive role (not like his usual).

Tyson - excellent movie!

The man is a mass of contradictions & excuses but at the same time he is critical to the point of self-loathing.

The film starts out OK but really starts to hit you when 10/15mins in Tyson begins to talk about his relationship with Cus D'Amato & gets chocked up before telling the camera "I'm gonna cry..."
James Toback does an excellent job of allowing Tyson to speak for himself without pushing your thoughts in one direction or another, although I'm not sure if the self reflective 'on the beach' scenes worked so well.

My only big compliant was that @ 84mins when the credits rolled the experience could have been bettered with longer clips of his fights (not just him Vs Holyfield)

Shit...the speed that man had in his prime! I remember watching some of his early fights as a kid, knowing nothing about boxing but being in awe of his ferocious ability.

Excellent sports/documentary - dare I say exceptional if you're a fan of both  [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
