QuoteI have to be honest... after Planet of the Apes and then Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I have no faith in Tim Burton's re-makes.

The original Apes movie is one of my all-time favourites, but the remake sucked. C'mon: knocking out apes with one punch during the end battle, when at the beginning of the film the same apes were invincible? Fuck that Tim. Anyway, Burton redeemed himself with the wonderfull, emotional and highly underrated Big Fish.

Big Fish is excellent.

And yeah, PotA had plenty of cheese with it, but I thought it was entertaining enough. Its nearly impossible to remake a classic movie and make it as good. In the Dark Knight, they show Batman bending the barrel of a gun. Does that make that movie any less enjoyable really?!  Based on what Im hearing, it sounds like PotA was a better blockbuster movie than this new Transformers flick (although im sure itll still make a ton of money).

I think it was actually before PotA, but Sleepy Hollow was very good. Ive loved that story since I was little, but I still thought it was well done in all areas.

I love Big Fish. It's one of my favorite movies, and it always, always makes me cry. My grandfather always told me stories of his crazy youth, one of which involved a massive catfish who called the Coosa River home.
:)

Interestingly enough, I found out that a portion of the movie was actually filmed not too far from where my PawPaw lives (Gadsden, AL)...

1993         Nightmare Before Christmas
1994       Ed Wood
1995         Batman Forever

2005         Corpse Bride
2007       Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

OK, rank your top five.  I have not seen Big Fish yet, I guess I need to.

1)   Edward Scissorhands
2)   James and The Giant Peach
3)   Sweeney Todd
4)   Sleepy Hollow
5)   Mars Attacks!
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Havent seen Ed Wood or Corpse Bride and turned Sweeney Todd off after 20 minutes because my stoned state couldnt handle it, but I hear theyre both good. Dont remember much of J&tGPeach.

And I cant believe he actually produced Batman Forever. I thought he had no part in that garbage  ;D

That said...

1) Big Fish
2) Sleepy Hollow
3) Mars Attacks! (probably a top 5 guilty pleasure..never realized it was a Burton movie)
4) Beetlejuice
5) The Nightmare Before Christmas

Honorable mentions: Batman Returns and Edward Scissorhands

I would've expected his resume to be a little bit better considering how famous he is, but then again I had trouble leaving those 2 honorable mentions and Batman off the list, so considering most people would say he has at least 10 solid movies out of around 20, that aint bad. Big Fish is about the only one that IMO personal movie favorites Id call great though.

Not sure what your point is, here, but Batman's gloves have pneumatic grips.

1. Big Fish
2. Batman
3. Beetlejuice

And let's be real... Michael Keaton nearly single-handedly destroyed Batman.

In reference to Jaimoe saying PotA was unrealistic because the in the beginning the humans looked like they had no chance vs. the Apes but towards the end were KO'ing them.

I didnt know about this pneumatic grips thing, but bending the barrel of a rifle?!  ::)

I'd like Tim Burton more if he got darker more often. He's more style than substance. I haven't seen any of his remakes, they just don't look very good. I liked his Batman movies but haven't seen them in years.
BTW, I see Nightmare Before Christmas on that list, he didn't direct that but i think he wrote and produced it.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

capt. scotty

I agree with you, but if you go over that list, Id say most are at least slightly dark (say 75% of them).

See, I didnt notice NBXmas wasnt a Burton (directed) movie until I looked over that list and noticed Batman Forever was on it, and I knew he didnt direct that. Based on BH's list, the 4 movies he indented Burton didnt direct, but he at least produced.

I never understood why a lot of movie fans dont consider a movie "X directors" movie because he didnt direct it, but produced and/or wrote it. Before today, I totally thought NBC and Corpse Bride were Burton movies, but even though he didnt direct either, I personally would consider them Burton movies.

I guess its more subjective this way because it's not cut and dry - for instance I wouldnt consider Batman Forever a Burton movie, just like I probably would consider The People Vs Larry Flynt an Oliver Stone movie even though he only produced it - but I think it in some instances you can see famous directors influences in a film despite them not directing it, and in those cases I personally would consider it "his" movie.

Just my 2 cents.

That's why I chose those. His version of dark is a bit PG, he did originally want to work for Disney when he started out.
Burton did direct Corpse Bride.

His version of dark is Hot Topics dark (which I don't feel is very dark).

Sleepy Hollow suffered from what I call: "Don't cast a star in a tiny role, only to find out they are the suprise villain at the end".

Ed Wood is a masterpiece.
