i was just going to say a thing, but i don't want to do what i always do which is talk it up too much so that it destroys it.

let me know what you think.  (oh boy!)

King Kong

The lead actor in this movie is a gigantic monkey. Great!

Everytime I watch BG I can't help but wonder why Timothy Hutton never made it big. He's such a likeable dude in that movie...

I've heard he has a couple of substance abuse problems, is a total dick to work with and is generally unreliable on-set. The only proof you need is his appauling film career after Falcon & The Snowman, which was a good film, but nothing groundbreaking.

It just occured to me that "Snakes On A Plane" is actually an answer to "King Kong".  It's like King Kongs Revenge, planes kill Giant Monkey - Snakes Get On Plane and kill everyone on board.  Take that you industrial revolutionized bitches!!!!!!!!
There's Still Time.........

Quoteoh my lord.  you must see ordinary people.  you must do.  do it now if you can.  it is so wonderful.

the only problem is that it is NOT better than "Raging Bull."

....as mayor of Drugachusettes, I declare this pizza to be...AWESOME!!!

that's hilarious.

Last night we saw Art School Confidential, and I was amazed by how bad I thought it sucked.  But the good thing is that it raised a lot of interesting issues.

1.  The absolute puke-factor of people sitting around dissecting art and making grand statements about it.  It's one thing to be enthusiastic and talk about what you like about something, it's another thing to put it down so harshly or to not recognize the work that went into it.  boooooo.
2.  How important it is to keep your head on top of things and not let yourself sink into a pool of bitterness.  For so many reasons, being pissed at other people's triumphs is a bad bad way to think.
3.  It is nearly impossible to have the audience remain faithful to you when you're showing images of art and calling them brilliant.  One of the best things I ever saw was in the movie I've Heard the Mermaids Singing, where they were talking about these paintings that were so beautiful, and instead of designating an image, they just showed people's faces illuminated and reacting to the paintings.  That way they made  you decide in your mind what you thought those paintings should look like.

And here I am dissecting art in front of people.  What a tricky situation this is...

The Hired Hand
one of the most beautiful westerns ever. masterpiece.

Hostel

Have you seen Beautiful Girls?
Natalie Portman in a similar role, just a bit younger. Good movie, great use of a Satchel song...

just watched it and loved it.
gotta love that bar band.

I finally saw I Heart Huckabees last night - that's an awesome cast, and a really clever movie.  I've grown to really like Marky Mark.  "Perfect Storm" won me over.  Schwartzman, Hoffman, and Lily Tomlin were all excellent.  Good stuff!

we saw the davinci code on sunday.  i was totally into it up until the end, and then i was so disappointed.  it raised some interesting issues about theology and women, which i thought was awesome.  but then it got all weird.  i thought it was a religious/philosophical nightmare, basically stating, what i thought, was that faith is more important than truth.

and i felt that the only reason that was included was to placate the general public.  and i think that stinks.

ian mckellen = awesome, as always.  tom hanks was given crappy lines, therefore he looked kind of stupid.  i thought he did a good job with what he was given.  ms. audrey was good.

but, that jean reno can do no wrong in my books.  ever.  i fell in love with him in the big blue, and then when i saw leon (the professional) i was done.  i have a serious crush on him.

Have you read the book? The book has so much more to it.. and raises the philosophical and religious issues with much more tact. The movie really screwed up a lot of aspects of it. If you liked the movie, even just a little bit, the book will blow you away.

constant gardener.... AMAZING film. completely riveting/sad/depressing/and yet hopeful...

and just to offset the above great film - kingdom of heaven. not bad, but geez, orlando is not a very good actor. and what's with the hair? you can't really be swanning around in the middle of a bloody crusade with perfectly quoiffed hair... crusaders didn't travel with hairdressing-staff....

love a song for the way it makes you feel

i thought that about the book - had me stuck to it the whole way through, then the ending just fell in a heap... disappointing. if you're going to spend that much effort on a story (elements of truth or not) at least round it off with a decent ending
