QuoteAny thoughts on the Avatar trailer? Good but not that good I thought...

I thought this was a live action version of the Nick cartoon Avatar, Last of the Airbenders. I could have sworn I read they were making a live action version of it. This wasn't that.
Yeah M. Night what's-his-name is making that one, they've taken the Avatar off the title to avoid confusion.

Soloist was OK but not as good or as moving as I had hoped. I love Atonement (same director) so was a little disappointed...
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Fuck, that concerns me then. Such a great little show. Afraid to see how he's gonna fuck that up.

Seriously though, I don't hate him as muich as a lot of people do. 6th Sense & Unbreakable are very good movies. Signs was OK & I even have a soft spot for The Village (largely due to Beardy-Wierdy Phoenix's performance) I haven't seen any of his more recent movies & I know they're supposed to be shit but like I said, I don't hate him as much as some people.

Tarantino calls him Shamalamadingdong :D
Sixth Sense is good and I didn't care for Signs. Haven't seen anything else by him but I hear good things about Unbreakable.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

I really like Unbreakable & think it's an interesting take on the superhero genre. What didn't you like about District9 True? I thought it was really good.

I thought it was ok, just didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I didn't like the main character, I didn't like the rip-off of Iron Man with the robot suit. A lot of things didn't make sense either, what was the fuel and why did it take that long to collect? I didn't buy a person turing into an alien either. It made it seem like the main alien character was gonna take the other aliens and then he just left them there.

Fair comments  :)

There were certainly a lot of unanswered questions but I actually really liked the main character, appreciated the black humor & found the film to be strangely touching.

Unbreakable was okay I guess, didnt like Sixth Sense much at all bc I figured out the ending 10 minutes in (I prefer Stir of Echoes which is a similar story), but watching M. Night movies is like having cinematic blue balls. They always look good and seem to be going somewhere, but in the end...nothing

Obviously there are worse directors, but none of his level of fame.

Lars and the Real Girl

Really liked this one. Kind of an offbeat, dramatic comedy. Ryan Gosling is the lead and plays a quiet guy who keeps to himself, until he starts dating a life size doll named Bianca. Plenty of humorous parts come with it, and surprisingly his brother, wife, and the entire town embrace the situation and go along with it. Original and witty screenwriting, Emily Mortimer was good, Gosling was excellent. IMO he's probably the best young(er) actor going. Definitely recommend this indie flick.

Pride and Glory

Solid cop drama. Id say We Own The Night was my favorite cop movie from 2007, and this takes that honor for 2008. Thought it would be good, but better than I expected. No real twists per se, but the story moves along in interesting fashion. It has an old school feel to it, and its strength is in the acting, namely of Edward Norton's family - Jon Voight, Colin Farrell, and especially Noah Emmerich. Maybe Norton's best performance since The Score, mostly thanks to the subtleties of his character that he hits right on the head.

Just got back from Inglorious Basterds. I thought it was incredibly stupid. Some good acting though. Basically, Quentin lost his hold on greatness after Kill Bill Vol. 1 and I doubt he'll ever get it back.

Angry Ewok

I disagree. Saw Inglorious Basterds a second time this weekend.

Havent seen Basterds yet, but after watching Reservoir Dogs last week, IMO thats his most fluid, entertaining movie for a typical audience. Keeps you glued to the screen like none of his other movies can.

Jackie Brown still be me favorite though.

I loved it. If anything, it was a rip-off of Enemy Mine, which is a movie that must be ripped off more often.

And the character was SO likeable. Who doesn't want to see Murray Hewitt gradually transform into an alien and fight off the rest of the world to save the precious life of a prawn? I do.

Wow, seriously?  I just went to see last night and I thought it was spectacular.  I love all of Tarantino's movies and this one may just be the best.  It's a great story, it's hilarious, the dialogue is as good as ever.  The actor who played the lead bad guy, can't remember his name, deserves an Oscar.  All of his interrogation scenes were INTENSE!   Also, the woman who played the Jewish girl who escaped and owned the theatre was brilliant as well.  I can't wait to see this again.  I couldn't recommend this enough for Tarantino fans.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

The Informers

Im not going into detail of how bad this movie was, because it doesnt deserve that. Over-stylized dreck with characters beyond easy to dislike so bad that I didnt turn off mostly just to see how it ended, and the ending was so bad I laughed.

The only even half decent part of the movie was 3 performances. Kim Basinger was good, if not over the top, as a pill addicted divorcee who seemed to wish she was 30 years younger. Chris Isaak was surprisingly good as a rich, alcoholic, womanizing father (well, maybe not surprising  ;D). Brad Renfro stole the show though in no more than 10-15 minutes of screentime. I thought he was good in a movie a few years ago 10th & Wolf, but this was easily the best performance of his career. I think he couldve been around for a long time as a very good supporting actor had he not died.

Soulshine

Bottle Shock- good "wine" movie. I guess some of it is inaccurate, but supposedly they're redoing it. I liked it.  :)
