QuoteI watched the first half our of Pearl Harbour last night.

That's 30 minutes of my life I'm never going to get back.
It really is an awful movie.

Dazed & Confused and Good Will Hunting are two of my fav movies - Ben is in both of those.
& although he doesn't star in it he does an excellent job of directing the brilliant Gone Baby Gone...
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

His best role was in Mallrats, where he pretty much plays himself.

I thought he was decent in Chasing Amy. Yeah, he appears to just play himself in Dazed & Confused and Mallrats.

I watched a bit of Choke last night.  Anyone seen the whole thing?  Worth finishing, or should I just read the book?

It's sitting on my laptop right now for me to watch. I'm intrigued since I just watched Fight Club for the first time. yeah, I know I'm way late to that game.

the virgin suicides was on showtime last night; i thought i'd watch it again since i hadn't seen it in a while. i forgot how good it was... especially the scene where the guys call the libson girls and they have a "conversation" via records.

For his many terrible movies Ben Affleck has, he also has quite a few good ones (not necessarily because of him usually though)

I 2nd, Dazed, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Good Will Hunting, and his direction of Gone Baby Gone.

I'll add Boiler Room, Smokin' Aces, Dogma, Glory Daze, and Changing Lanes.

I thought State of Play was pretty good, albeit predictable. Russell Crowe saved it

Dogma and Smokin' Aces? Those are aaaaaaaaawful films. Mallrats is cute in a low-budget king of way. Kevin Smith is a hack director, but a decent writer. I really like Chasing Amy and of course, Clerks. The rest of his films, not so much (I know Smokin' isn't one of his films).

Ben's been pretty good in his five or 6 films, and he did a good job writing and directing Gone Baby Gone, the ending notwithstanding. I want to hate him, but he gets my props.

While Dogma is one of the weaker Kevin Smith movies, I still thought it was funny. After looking now, its actually got a 7.3 on IMDB. I disagree with it being that good, but that says something.

I dont think Smokin Aces was great by any means, but its damn entertaining and I enjoyed it. The twist at the end I found surprisingly good actually.

Like I said, I dont think Affleck has ever been the reason a movie is good, but he's been in some decent movies. If anything, he's most responsible for GBGone being good, and he wasnt even in it.

At least you didnt trash Boiler Room...I absolutely love that movie...

"I didn't want to be an innovator any more, i just wanted to make the quick and easy buck, i just wanted in. The Notorious BIG said it best: "Either you're slingin' crack-rock, or you've got a wicked jump-shot." Nobody wants to work for it anymore. There's no honor in taking that after school job at Mickey Dee's, honor's in the dollar, kid. So I went the white boy way of slinging crack-rock: I became a stock broker. "

I haven't seen Boiler Room. I hear it's pretty good.

Boiler Room really surprised me. I went into it expecting nothing and got a really good film. I don't love it or anything, but it's very, very solid. I'm still waiting for Vin Diesel to get a truly great role but this is the closest he's come so far and it's pretty damn close.

Boiler Room is like this generation's Wall Street and Glengarry Glen Ross smashed together, except more brash. Giovanni Ribisi has been very good in pretty much everything Ive seen, but this is easily the highlight performance of his career thus far. The rest of the cast is spot on as well: Diesel, Affleck, Scott Caan, Nicky Katt, Ron Rifkin, even Jamie Kennedy. As long as language doesnt bother you, I definitely recommend it.

Xmas - have you seen Find Me Guilty? I think its the only role Diesel's taken on since Boiler Room where he's not an action hero or driving fast cars, buts its a damn good movie and IMO Vin Diesel's best on screen perfromance (although I agree, he's very good in Boiler Room). Find Me Guilty was written and directed be Sidney Lumet and its based on the true story of the longest mafia trial in the history of the US with the Lucchese family. Its a comedy-drama focused around Vin Diesel's character defending himself in court whereas everyone else in the family has there own lawyer. Entertaining and downright funny at times. Def check it out.

Boiler Room - 4.4/5

Find Me Guilty - 4/5

I've seen these throughout the week:
Funny People - I liked it overall, a little long for a comedy. It has some classic lines you'd come to expect from Apatow.
The Road - Really good but not sure if I'd want to watch it again. I liked Hillcoat's The Proposition more.
And based on MJ and DB's raves I saw both Dead Man's Shoes and This Is England. Both were really good but I thought Dead Man's Shoes to be slightly overrated. Don't get me wrong though, I'm glad I watched both.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!
