This looks like its going to be pretty sweet. The cast + the dark tone of the trailer has me thinking it almost cant be bad.

And very little makeup was needed for Benicio  ;)

God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

I still cannot believe they are ruining....I mean remaking one of my favs. I love the low fi effects of the original and the non modern speak. I hate it when period pieces use contemporary vocab and music. I annoys me.

The Caller
Nothing spectacular, but I enjoyed it. An energy corp. heavyweight (Frank Langella) rips off a group funding his project he got them into, and they want him dead. He has 2 weeks before they "meet" with  him, and he has a private eye (Elliot Gould) unknowingly follow him in the meantime. Gould and Langella are excellent as the 2 main, and basically only, characters of the film. It starts off very slow, but if you can make it thru the first 30-40 minutes, a great and unexpected story unfolds and I was happy I ended up watching the whole thing instead of turning it off during the slow first half. Its on SHO right now, and while nothing great, I found it to be an interesting take on friendship, and Langella and Gould are worth the watch anyway. That said, its a movie not everyone will enjoy.
3.3/5

He's Just Not That Into You
Alright, I watched this without female enforcement and on my own time, so feel free to rip on me because I enjoyed it. Yeah, its a rom-com, but its not like your typical McConahey or Bullock rom-com. It was actually pretty funny, and the star cast carries it. Not a bad watch.
3.65/5

The Great Debaters
Very good "mostly" true story about a debate team at a small, all black college in Texas in 1935 that goes on to great things. Denzel runs things, as usual, and the supporting cast (full of unknowns outside of Forest Whitaker) holds their own as well. A worthwhile, inspirational watch that moves quicker than its 2hr15min runtime.
3.75/5

Slumdog Millionaire
Outside of the extremely cheesy dance scene during the credits, I liked this a lot - despite it kind of copping out into your standard good guy gets the girl love story over the last 1/3 of the movie. That said, IMO this should NOT have been Best Picture last year. I knew the basic premise (poor kid gets rick on Millionaire), but didnt know how the movie unfolded and really liked how the story proceeded. Great directing by Boyle and the editing and score were very good (those Oscars were definitely well deserved). I cant remember the last time I laughed as hard as when Jamal looks at his pic of teh Indian movie star, looks down in teh shit, jumps in, and goes onto to run to his hero and get an autographed while completely covered in shit  ;D I thought the acting for the most part was very good, but without that name you know or an overpowering performance that I think nearly every Best Picture needs, I found myself wanting more. Like I said I thought it was very good and enjoyed it more than I anticipated, but it really never gave me that feeling that I was watching a movie deserving of the Academy Award for Best Picture. However, I could understand it getting a well deserved nomination based everything I just said.

Somers Town- Wonderfully heartwarming. I really owe you DB for turning me onto Shane Meadows. I even liked Once Upon a Time In The Midlands. Only drawback is the movie is only 70 min long.

Will be throwing Waiting For Guffman and Bruno in tonight with the Mrs. Nothing like couch snuggling and laughing to make it a great night.

Pleased you liked it. I thought it was great, short but sweet. I ordered Le Donk from the HMV sale, should have it any day now  :D

Coraline - beautiful to look at, story didn't really grab me though. I think it will be very hard for Selick to ever top Nightmare Before...

The Brothers Bloom-  very fun very funny, a cute and silly movie with decent acting and some cool twists and turns.  Not the best movie ever but definitely light and worth watching.

The life of david gale.  Pretty good, a nice group of twists, pretty good acting and good story. Worth seeing as well.

In The last week or two:

(500) Days Of Summer - One of the better romantic comedies I've seen in awhile. Actually, the genre doesn't really fit it, it's more of a 'love that wasn't meant to be' movie.

Night On Earth - Finally a movie by Jim Jarmusch that I liked as much as Down By Law. Down By Law was the first Jarmusch film I'd seen and thought that his others were either average or borderline boring. Easily his best segmented film (Mystery Train, Coffee And Cigarettes being his others).

Natural Born Killers Directors Cut - Couldn't remember much differences from the theatrical cut. The deleted scenes (witch I didn't watch yet) weren't even in the film, but where extras on the bonus disc.

The Prestige - My second viewing of this great movie. There are lots of stuff you pick up on the second time, worth seeing again if you've only seen once.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Dead Man is one of my favourite westerns and one of Jim's best movies. Johnny Depp was excellent, as usual, but native Canadian character actor Gary Farmer stole the film, and that's saying a lot given Robert Mitchum played the villian.

I liked that one as well. The only Jarmusch I havent seen is The Limits Of Control (really bad reviews) and Ghost Dog. Here's my ranking:
1. Down By Law
2. Night On Earth
3. Dead Man
4. Broken Flowers
5. Mystery Train
6. Stranger Than Paradise
7. Coffee And Cigarettes
8. Permanent Vacation (can't even remember what happened in this movie or what the plot was or if it had a plot)

I saw David Gale awhile ago, but I thought it was good too. Winslet, Spacey, and Linney were all excellent, and its a pretty crazy and interesting story. Good ending that I dont remember expecting as well.

...Brothers Bloom is one Ive heard mostly good things about and hope to see soon

The only scene I remember offhand being in teh theatrical cut I think was a courtroom scene with Ashley Judd. Either way, love that movie and 1 of my favorites from Oliver Stone.

I could definitely see that with The Prestige. I didnt find it confusing the first time I saw it, but I saw it with my dad and how Jackman ended up pulling off his trick confused him. What did you pick up? hints to their tricks or other stuff? Since they came out around the same time, I always compare Prestige to The Illusionist and try to pick a favorite, both are pretty good, but I think the Prestige is better. Now the ending to The Illusionist, that did confuse me.

Ghost Dog is a must see...That movie is all kinds of awesome, and Forest Whitaker is very good (as usual). Soundtrack by RZA is icing on the cake. A story about an assassin like you've never seen before
