Saw 'Brothers' last night with Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman and Jake Gylenhaal.

Was ok - can't really warm to Maguire as an actor though and the plot was pretty thin.

I'll see this once its out on DVD. Looks decent, though I was surprised Maguire got nominated for the Best Actor GGlobe. Doesnt look that good

QuoteSympathy for Mr Vengence

Well that was gruesome  :o....are the other 2 movies in the Vengence trilogy just as brutal or worse? I may not want to continue. Fucked up storyline (in a good way)

Oldboy is even more twisted, it's the best one of the three. At this point, you have to continue!
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

It seems like every person's review Ive read for this has been positive, many to the extent of this being one of the best sci-fi thrillers in awhile. I thought it was good but that definitely raised my expectations, and not sure Id go that far. I thought it kind of tailed off over the last third of the movie. Definitely worth the rental though.
4/5

SPOILER (highlight): What also docked it in my books was how towards the end they used the Dennis Quaid "this is my ship" or "youre not getting off of my ship angle". Felt like a blatent rip off of Sam Neill's character in Event Horizon, and that definitely detracted from the movie for me. It seemed pretty unnecessary as well

The Reader - difficult viewing at times but very good. Kate Winslet was excellent as always.

Bolt - much better than I expected. Definitely the best of Disney's 3 non-Pixar movies (Chicken Little - not bad, Meet The Robinsons - terrible)

I won't mention that I watched 17 Again with my sister last night (& I certainly won't mention the fact that I quite enjoyed it!)

We wanted to rent Moon from Sky Box Office but it finished on Sunday. We couldn't agree on another movie - I wanted to watch Funny People, she wanted to watch Dorian Gray  :-/

I honestly didn't enjoy funny people.
Oh I'll never say I knew you, but my heart can't wait to meet you on the other side

Saw a preview of 'Precious' on Monday night.

I'm still reeling...

Some incredible performances (Mo'nique) but bloody hard to watch in places.

Two Lovers - Joaquin Phoenix was great (as always) & Gwyneth Paltrow was surprisingly good (I liked her in Sliding Doors, Emma, Shakespeare In Love & Iron Man etc but still didn't expect her to bring much to this role)
I thought the film was very good but wouldn't like to recommend it.

Is this really Joaquin's last movie? I really hope not...

I just watched it, I'm so there. Craig Robinson kills me.

I finally saw Avatar. I had no idea that movie would speak to my soul as much as it did. It was way deeper and sparked an emotional response I did not expect. On top of that is was probably the most visually pleasing film I've ever seen.
Because we're all in this together...

Orphan
Had decent expectations for this, and it exceeded them. Good direction and very well done building of suspense. Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard were very good as usual and carried it along nicely, title character was pretty creepy. One thing I didnt understand was why the kids wouldnt tell their parents something was up with the adopted orphan. I realize the orphan threatened them, but wouldnt you trust your parents to help you out in that situation?? As the movie went on, I kept thinking the twist was going to Farmiga was delusional or something and imagined this girl up (her miscarriage?), or it was someone she knew as a kid. Glad it didnt turn out that way, or that it was some kind of special/supernatural power the girl had. I thought the twist was great and original

Oldboy

uhhh wow. That is one fucked up story. The "twist" was predictable however.

Citizen Kane.  I didn't really get what all the fuss was about.
The trouble with the straight and the narrow is it's so thin, I keep sliding off to the side

Finally saw Crazy Heart. I laughed, I cried, I forgot it was Bridges. Got to see The Dude in more than one camera angle. Who else can play a Hippie ass Dude, The President, and the owner of a major race horse. Oh I remember, JEFF BRIDGES...

QuoteCitizen Kane.  I didn't really get what all the fuss was about.

You realize it was made in 1941, right? It was the first movie to do a lot of things, weird camera angles, non-linear plot, two stories being told at the same time, lighting and editing techniques that were new to times and influenced the entire medium for decades.  It's like how Star Wars looks like child's play now but was crazy advanced in it's time, only Citizen Kane actually is a good movie.

Mark's pretty stupid, you've read some of his posts, right? He probably had no idea it was made in 1941  ;)

& for the record, Star Wars is a fucking excellent movie!
