Up in the Air,

It was awesome, a little bit of everything in this movie, all of it done perfectly.  loved the acting and how honest the script and story was
Oh I'll never say I knew you, but my heart can't wait to meet you on the other side

QuoteChloe Grace Moretz stole the show as Hit Girl but (dare I say it?!) Nicolas Cage was...quite good  :o

Glad to hear its good, but whats your beef with Nic Cage?! Yes, especially this past decade he had plenty of crap, but he's a very good actor when he decides to take on a good role/movie. Adaptation, Leaving Las Vegas, Red Rock West, 8MM, etc.

And I wouldnt be surprised if most people didnt like Con Air, Face/Off, and to a lesser degree, The Rock, but I absolutely love those flicks.

Cage has def mostly taken paychecks lately, but he's a solid actor when he wants to be.
I used to like Nic Cage - when he's good he's good, when he's bad he's wooden as f*ck & stinks like shit. Some actors can take a pay check & still look good/not act like they've got a branch stuck up their arse but Nic can't & he's taken a lot of paychecks recently...that answer your question?  ;)

He was good in Lord Of The Rings though...

I think I want to see Kick-Ass again @ the movie theatre. No one else seen it yet? (I know it's a little later in the US) I can't stop thinking about the warehouse scene & the live-video feed.

Hoping to see How To Train Your Dragon this weekend...
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Sherlock Holmes - I'm a big Conan Doyle fan and I love the old Rathbone/Bruce films; and I think BBC's '80s-'90s reboot with Jeremy Brett is the best Holmes ever. But I did kind of like Guy Richie's re-imagination, although the normally good Rachel McAdams sucked. She was merely a thinly written and acted plot device.

Forgot to mention I saw Public Enemies last weekend...so was that really the same Michael Mann who directed Heat? Can't have been  :-/

I agree and glad i'm not alone. Seemed boring to me despite Mann directing and a solid cast. I did like that french girl though.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Finally saw The Hurt Locker last night.  Honestly, I don't see why it won best picture and best director.  I was not particularly impressed.

I thought District 9 was more emotionally intense.  I felt Avatar was far more inventive and groundbreaking.  Inglorious Basterds had a screenplay and performances like no other.

I've yet to see some of the other nominees, but I'd even vote for Star Trek over The Hurt Locker.  To each their own, of course.  Just my opinion.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Good point. He does seem to mail it in when the money is good and the movie is the suck.

Ive only heard great things about HTTYDragon, with many people saying its better than a few Pixar movies

I think the biggest reason for the overwhelming feeling of this movie being "meh" to 90% of people's reviews Ive seen was because the expectations were so great. I know I personally expected it to be a Best Picture nominee.

I may watch it again because I saw it at the drive-in with a couple friends and a few cold ones, but I dont really want to see it again and anyone who is a fan of Mann, Depp, or Bale I think leaves this movie feeling disappointed even if their expectations werent as lofty as mine

QuoteRevolutionary Road - I'm really not sure what to make of this movie. It was quite slow & very little happened yet I found myself mesmerized. Both Leo & Kate seemed a little over the top at times yet I can't fault their performances. I didn't care much for either of their characters yet was devestated by what happened to them. The more I think about it the more I think this is an exceptional film (& whilst there was no statue of liberty in the sand the simplicity of the final scene had a huge impact on me) Has anyone else seen it?

My mom and sister told me yesterday they watched it a week or 2 ago and turned it off after an hour or so because it was so slow and boring.

I told them Id probably love it then  ;D

She actually owns it so i'll probably watch it sometime in the near future

Is your last sentence referring to Planet of the Apes?

QuoteSaw Shutter Island tonight..

Im still thinking about it...awesome movie...I still dont know how it ends
I've read a lot of very different reviews for this. Some critics loved it, some didn't. Ghosts wasn't a fan, you thought it was awesome...I wanted to see it but can't decide now  :-/

I think AMC, Yustin, and maybe someone else said they liked it a good bit too. I dont think I ever posted my thoughts on it here, but here's what I said on another site. The last paragraph is why I personally really liked it:

Shutter Island
First off, Im surprised how many people who have posted in here left not liking or only marginally liking this movie. I went in with fairly high - but tempered based on reviews Ive read - expectations, and I was thoroughly engrossed and really enjoyed it.

I thought that visually the movie was fantastic, with a great score/music as well. The color tone, lighting, sets, buildings all looked great. I had read around when this came out that article on Slate.com basically calling Scorsese a has been, but I thought his direction here was excellent as shown by what I said above and more. Acting was very good all around, with Kingsley IMO stealing his scenes and a nice cameoesque scene with Ted Levine.

People saying the saw the ending coming, especially that figured it out early, I ask how? I thought how it "ended" was a clear possibility, but I saw nothing steadfast as giving that away, and the details that come to the surface as the movie unfolds continue to leave plenty of options open. I put "ended" in quotation marks because quite honestly, Im not sure which story was actually true. They way it is written, and all of the details (I loved how Kingsley clearly explains the ending seqeunce and the re-enactment), leave you unsure - on two levels - where the truth actually lies. I think almost anyone who knocks this movie based on the ending, didnt even consider this and in the end were just as drugged as one of Kingsley's patients and believed him. Considering Im still thinking about the movie and the ending a hour and a half after leaving the theater, I thought it was pretty damn good.
4.5/5

Alice In Wonderland
Saw it yesterday for my sister's b-day, and didnt get to see it in 3D because HTTYDragon was the only 3D movie at the close theater so I was kind of bummed because of that. I thought it was okay, but the best things about it were the visuals, and Depp and Helena Bonham Carter's performances. AIW was probably one of my least favorite Disney movies as a kid so maybe that doesnt help my thoughts on it. Seemed a little too long despite only being about 1hr40min. One thing that was interesting was this movie focuses on Alice's 2nd trip to Wonderland apparently, so the story is different from the animated Disney classic.
2.9/5

...and the previews before the movie were puke. Karate Kid looks like a crap filled cheese fest. Prince of Persia I was kind of excited for, but I didnt realize it was being made by Disney and is only PG13. For all the money that PoP and CotTitans will probably make, i'll take the maligned Alexander or Troy over them any day.

I still think Kung-Fu Panda is Dreamworks best to date but this is a very close 2nd. Liked HTTYD more than Ratatouille, Wall.E & Up. I do like all three of those but Pixar movies just aren't as much fun as they used to be.

Still gotta see Wall.E

I really liked Ratatouille and Up a lot, but yeah, Pixar has seemed to become less fun although the quality is still there.

I dont really think I could even rank them exactly, it'd be more like a group I loved, really liked, and liked but not as much. Most Ive only seen once though so Id probably have to back go thru the entire catalog to really have a good idea on how Id rank them. I remember next to nothing from either Toy Story outside of loving them.

I just saw Wall E for the 1st time and it was absolutely adorable

Went to a screening of City Island the other night and I really liked it.
Because we're all in this together...

I liked what I saw on that at the movies show despite both those dudes saying "skip it"  (I usually dont agree with those dudes though)

Nemo is one of the more layered and smart Pixar films. It's also brave in its portrayals of death and pollution, without being preachy.

I hear ya on that. I really havent seen a Pixar movie I didnt enjoy.

When it comes to Pixar, I think its almost personal preference because theyre all good, and have strengths on different levels

True enough. I like Ratatouille more than Wall-E and most of the other Pixar films because I like fine dining and have been to Paris twice in the past three years. The film nails France, food critics and gastro delights.
