QuoteI thought the Will Forte and Will Arnett comedy The Brothers Solomon was hilarious. I might be the only person in America who has seen it though.

Not quite as good, but still funny, is the Arnett comedy Lets Go To Prison

I thought that was a pretty funny movie, I'd like to watch it again sometime.  Did the story revolve more around Arnett though?  Is this Forte's first starring role film where it's all him?  I assume so.  He's such a hilarious dude.  completely underrated.

Which one of the 2 did you see?

In Brother Solomon, theyre brothers obviously, and basically every scene 1 of them is in the other one is too. So Forte wasnt the clear star, but both were more like co-stars

I've seen both, The Brother Solomon is where they go around trying to get a chick prego right?  funny stuff.  nice list of hilarious movie's by the way.  can't believe I forgot so many of those.

'The Straight Story' (one of the best)

Finally got round to watching Superbad on Sunday.  I didn't like it at all.
The trouble with the straight and the narrow is it's so thin, I keep sliding off to the side

Did you have high expectations or just not think it was funny at all?

I dont think Ive ever seen anyone think it didnt have plenty of laughs at least

I liked Superbad. It's too long and it ran out of steam, but it's a good comedy.

I finally got around to seeing Old School. It had some great laughs, although the plot is thin and like Superbad, it runs out of steam 3/4's in. Still, an excellent comedy.

it's mind boggling people are saying Superbad wasn't funny.

the scene where Jonah Hill gets menstrual juice on him was hilarious.

Knocked Up

These would all have been very close to making my list. Cabin Boy is awesome. I didnt like Cable Guy when it came out, but when I saw it again 5 or so years ago, I liked it a lot. Borat and Knocked Up probably should be on my list. I think Knocked Up is underrated because people think of it as more of a chick flick when it really isnt.

But hunny I got Matsui!

A friend recommended it as being extremely good.  I thought the policemen were pretty funny, but found the three main characters entirely unsympathetic.  I'm probably just being a grumpy old git.

I think it's a very "American" film for a lack of a better way of putting it. I'm not sure if high school/teen angst such as this is the same here as in England. I agree, it wasn't that great. It might be because I had very high expectations coming off of Knocked Up, 40 YO Virgin, Freeks & Geeks, etc. Most things in the Aptow world I really enjoy. This was not one of them.....and Pineapple Express. I just found both to be unappealing and *gasp* unfunny.

Micheal Cera is very funny in Superbad in a nervous straight man role. Take his character out of the film or cast someone else in his role and the whole thing is a disaster.

So we were discussing this on another board, but I wanted to see what the people here thought. We were talking about The Departed (I love it, def in my Top 10 all time) and someone brought up Mark Wahlberg being a shitty actor. A few agreed with him, a couple disagreed. Now, I dont think he's great by any means, but I think he's decent, good enough to add to a movie and unlikely he'll ruin a movie for you. Kind of like a poor man's Tom Cruise.

Anyhow, I looked at his filmography on IMDB, and here are the 23 movies he has been in up thru 2009:

The Lovely Bones (2009) .... Jack Salmon
Max Payne (2008) .... Max Payne
The Happening (2008) .... Elliot Moore
We Own the Night (2007) .... Joseph Grusinsky
Shooter (2007/I) .... Bob Lee Swagger
The Departed (2006) .... Staff Sgt. Dignam
Invincible (2006) .... Vince Papale
Four Brothers (2005) .... Bobby Mercer
I Heart Huckabees (2004) .... Tommy Corn
The Italian Job (2003) .... Charlie Croker
The Truth About Charlie (2002) .... Lewis Bartholamew
Rock Star (2001) .... Chris 'Izzy' Cole
Planet of the Apes (2001) .... Captain Leo Davidson
The Perfect Storm (2000) .... Bobby Shatford
The Yards (2000) .... Leo Handler
Three Kings (1999) .... Troy Barlow
The Corruptor (1999) .... Danny Wallace
The Big Hit (1998) .... Melvin Smiley
Boogie Nights (1997) .... Eddie Adams - Dirk Diggler
Traveller (1997) .... Pat O'Hara
Fear (1996) .... David McCall
The Basketball Diaries (1995) .... Mickey
Renaissance Man (1994) .... Pvt. Tommy Lee Haywood

After looking at that list, I was surprised that Ive actually seen every single one of these movies. Also, the only 3 that I didnt at least enjoy (ie not necessarily "good" but at least entertaining) were The Happening, Max Payne, and Rock Star. I dont really remember Rock Star, but the other 2 were total garbage. So 20/23 I liked. Thats gotta be one of the highest percentages for any actor for me, so I gotta think he's a fairly good actor, right?

The Departed, Three Kings, Boogie Nights, We Own The Night, and Basketball Diaries are probably my Top 5. Fear and The Big Hit are definitely guilty pleasures.
