Toy Story 3
Thought it was good. Better than the 2nd, I probably prefer the 1st one the best, but Ive been reading a lot of people thinking this one is the best. Animation was beautiful, saw it in 3D and I think it was worth the extra few dollars. Not really any new characters that were good, but thats not a big deal. As a big Ernest P. Worrell fan, Im kind of pissed they had someone other than Jim Varney (since he's dead) take over Slinky Dog's voice. They should have just gotten rid of Slink in this movie like as other toys were missing as well. Barbie/Ken I thought was probably the weakest part of the movie and I didnt find it funny. Movie definitely picks up over the last hour. Has more emotional and "scary" stuff than any other Toy Story IMO. Big reason why I think the first is the best is all of the interactions of Woody and Buzz. In the last 2, theyre separated for most of the movie and you dont get that. Liked it, but it has a 9.2 on IMDB right now, good enough for 6th best movie ever, and its just not that good. Based on the ending, I hope this is the last Toy Story, as another one I think would really sully the franchise.

Finally saw Avatar the other day and as much as I loved The Hurt Locker, I was left scratching my head at how exactly it beat this movie out.  Everything was pretty mindblowing.  I do know there was some lefty loons saying this was another racist fantasy about the white deity figure rescuing hapless native peoples--but really lighten up ITS A F-ING MOVIE!
The craziest shit coming in the wake of this movie tho has to be the wack jobs posting on forums about how depressed, and even suicidal, they feel about not being able to visit the planet Pandora or the guy in Florida trying to start his own Na'vi tribe.  Hoo boy  ::)

BTW--I loved the movie
Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.

The storyline isnt original and the dialogue isnt any better than average, but Avatar was just a mindblowing cinematic masterpiece that raised the bar in many ways. Hard to say if that means its deserving of best picture or not because there's never been a movie like it thats won. I think Cameron definitely should have won best director though.

Havent seen Hurt Locker yet. Actually, the only movies that were even nominated that Ive seen were Inglourious Basterds and Up. Id put Avatar ahead of both of those, as much as I liked Inglourious Basterds.

Sunshine Cleaning
Pretty much what I expected. Solid film that is really carried by Amy Adams and to a lesser extent Emily Blunt. Enjoyed the original storyline of starting a company that cleans up whats left from crime scenes. Alan Arkin basically reprises his role from Little Miss Sunshine, but it didnt make him any less funny. Overall the movie really revolved around Amy Adams' character and her struggles to somehow go somewhere in life. Wasn't sure how it would end, but it was fairly satisfying and tied it pretty good with a couple of loose ends (soemthing that didnt bother me here). I havent seen a ton of movies with Amy Adams, but she always seems to put in good work. Emily Blunt gives me teh boners.

Powder Blue
If this movie didnt have the cast it did, I would have considered turning it off halfway thru (that, and if Jessica Biel got naked before 1hr and a half into the movie). This is one of those movies with multiple characters who have their own storyline, some of which become entangled and others that dont. They succeed somewhat in that regard of the storytelling, but ultimately it feels as if the whole is lesser than the sum of its parts. What hurt it for me was that some of the characters thought processes and choices just leave you thinking WTF or disliking them when you shouldnt, as well as the editing of the storytelling being below average. I realize its hard to tell 4-5 separate stories and make them cohesive to a point, but this film felt like it jumped somewhere else when it shouldve stuck where it was, or it ignored another character for far too long. That said, Ray Liotta and Forest Whitaker turn in very solid performances, and Jessica Biel was surprisingly decent in one of her few dramatic roles. Hard to recommend this because there have been plenty of these "multiple story" movies done much better over the last decade, but it is worth it for some of the acting and Biel's strip club scenes

Hardwired
Not sure what to call this movie, but I expected a TV movie/straight to DVD cheese fest + Cuba Gooding Jr + Val Kilmer and thats what I got. So bad I enjoyed watching it. Basically revolves around this huge corporation inserting computer chips into people's brains that make them see advertisements for products until they purchase said product, with one guinea pig being Cuba. Hackers get ahold of CGJr and together they try to take down the corporation!!!! Kilmer has been in some bad movies this past dacade, but at least he had almost a half dozen solid movies that he basically starred in, and a half dozen more with minor roles. Cuba Gooding Jr should shoot his agent though, because IMO the only good movies he's been in, in the last 13 years, are Men of Honor, Shadowboxer, and American Gangster. Dude is far too talented to be a B-movie standby

TEO

Natalia Nikolaevna Zakharenko; Where have you been all of my life?

This Summer:
Rebel Without a Cause (Nominated)
Cash McCall
Splendor in the Grass (Nominated)
Gypsy
Love with the Proper Stranger (Nominated)
Inside Daisy Clover
Penelope
Brainstorm (released posthumously, kinda sad seeing that she seemed to have "lost it" by the time this was made)

All in all a very convincing actress. The only time she is unbelievable to me on screen is when she goes manic.

Predators
Finally, an installment in the series that does the original film justice. Grabs your attention from the opening scene and the tension is there almost the entire time until the end. Its biggest strength may in fact be the first 45 minutes or so as the people become more comfortable with each other, the environment, and try to figure out where they are and why they are there, which occurs with perfect pace and quite a lot of suspense despite rarely seeing a Predator. The character development was surprisingly good for this type of movie, and I thought the cast's interactions were very good. Goggins with a few funny lines that almost come out of nowhere and easily the best character besides Brody (plus badass final scene). Only complaints really would be Fishburne's character/storyline felt to me like it hurt the movie more than added to it, and all in all was unnecessary. IMO, it kind of took me out of the atmosphere and feel the movie had presented and maintained so well, and from that point on the movie felt more rushed compared to the first half for the most part. Despite that, the action sequences from that point on were quite good, and the blood and gore was not kept to a minimum, which is a good thing for me. I thought the weapons were great, and this movie distances itself from the first in that aspect and others, including how Brody and the rest of the humans decide to play "the game", which was another strength of the movie and gave certain parts more believability to me. I thought it was easily the 2nd best movie of the series, and certainly worth the price to see it up on the big screen

This is one of the movies I've really been looking forward to seeing.  I'm glad you dug it so much, it makes me optimistic.  rodrigez really looks to have made the whole predator idea more sleek and fresh from what I've seen in the previews.  might drag some friends to go see it tomorrow.  It's rare I spend the money at the theater anymore with such low quality movies being produced.  I really loved the movie "Once Upon a Time in Mexico".  the only low part of that movie is Enrique Iglesias.

I loved the part when depp and the cab driver are riding down the street:

Cab Driver: Look out there, its a fucking coup d'Ètat.
Agent Sands: I can't see, fuck-mook. I have no eyes.

Clash of the Titans (2010) - It was pretty much just straight up the story of Perseus.  The main character Sam Worthington? from terminator 4 and Avatar.  I really do not understand why that dude is in so many leader role, big time movies.  His acting is so monotonous and boring to watch.  It makes it impossible to give a fuck about any character he plays.   5/10 for special effects.  I thought Fiennes was a decent Hades.  Liam was better in Taken.  Damn Taken was a good movie for what it was... anyway, hope everybody's weekend is going well.

Oh I rarely go to the movies as well. I could count on 1 hand the movies Ive seen the last few years basically. This was one of those movies I thought would be sweet on the big screen though, and it was. Plus the reviews are mostly positive, and I saw a matinee so it was only $6.50...Id check it out if I was you

Harold and Maude - Knew nothing about this going in, save for the description from DirecTV and the mention in Something About Mary.  Pretty good, inspirational in ways, lots of good one-liners and some dark humor.  On first watch, 3.75/5, although it will probably grow on me.

The original Clash of the Titans was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid.  I used to tell my folks I wanted to be "Clash" for Halloween.   I thought the remake was terrible, damn near unwatchable.  No need to add useless characters to an established story.  I thought the CGI special effects were real lame too.

Going to see Predators this weekend.  Really looking forward to that one.  I haven't been a fan of the AVP movies so I'm real glad they're taking this one in a different direction.  When I first heard about it, I thought they were remaking the original.  Also real glad that wasn't the case.
My music will go on forever. Maybe it's a fool say that, but when me know facts me can say facts.

Finally saw City of God, a couple of days ago.  Its a foreign flick out of Brazil.  It had been recommended to me by many a friend, and I am happy they did.

The movie was fantastic.  The story-telling and cinematography were fantastic, and the movie moved at a very enjoyable pace for its 2+ hours of running time.

I highly recommend it.
