Just watched The Rock, one of the greatest pieces of action film ever created, and a certain scene made me want to think up a 6 degrees of separation of MMJ......

My Morning Jacket was featured in an episode of American Dad, which also featured Zach Galifianakis in the same episode.

Zach Galifianakis was in a movie called Heartbreakers, starring Ray Liotta.

Ray Liotta starred in Goodfellas with Robert DeNiro.

DeNiro starred in Sleepers with Dustin Hoffman.

Dustin Hoffman starred in Midnight Cowboy with Jon Voight.

Jon Voight starred as Nic Cage's dad in National Treasure.

Nic Cage starred in the 90's action classic, The Rock. My Morning Jacket covered Elton John's Rocketman on their Ch 1 EP, which was referenced in The Rock when Nic Cage asks a soldier if he likes Elton John's Rocketman, and then proceeds to make him the Rocketman.

Your Highness - pretty hilarious.  a little better than I thought it would be.  if you love eastbound and down you'll love this.  danny mcbride has an extremely similar vibe to that of which he plays in eastbound, the only real difference is that it's the dark ages with wizards and stuff.  huge stars for such an absolutely ridiculous movie.  the accents were almost part of the joke of the movie because they were so horrible haha.  decent rental possibility.

Hanna - it felt like a cliche action movie trying to be an indie film.  I kind liked it though, it kept my attention until the end at least.

Paul - not as funny as I thought it would be.  kinda weak.  kristen wigg was really good tho.

Really want to see this. I was sold when McBride said him and the director thought there need to be more movies like Willow. Willow might be Top 10 all time for me. So badass.

Brothers
Expected to like it, but thought it was even better & very good. I felt this exhibited the family/home angle of war better than any other movie Ive seen (and few show that aspect). Solid story, I wish they went into more detail with Gyllenhaal's character/past and extended the movie after Maguire came back after being thought dead plus his character was totally different, but I cant complain much with that because what carries the movie is the acting. IMO, both Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal give their best performances to date (though Darko makes it tough for me to say that), which makes this a must see just based on that, but the entire supporting cast is excellent as well, especially Sam Shepard and Maguire's 2 daughters. Portman was solid, but left me wanting a little bit more. Maybe Im forgetting a role/movie, but I thought Maguire exemplified a solider with PTSD better than anyone Ive seen. Acting aside, the movie isnt much better than average, but its the acting that elevates it at least a couple notches. Hopefully Maguire and Jake G are rich enough where they can start going for better roles/movies as opposed to box office schlock.
8.6/10

Unthinkable
Pretty much a constant suspense thrill ride. Was nothing like I expected going in based on the netflix summary (which are getting shorter and worse seemingly). Samuel L. was very good, but I thought was really kept this movie entertaining and interesting was the casting of Michael Sheen as the terrorist being interrogated. Without a good actor in that role, this movie wouldnt have been near as entertaining. I liked it a lot, but ultimately the ending left a bad taste in my mouth.
6.8/10

I really liked both of these, in fact I am considering adding Unthinkable to my library.

Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.

As far as Unthinkable, the ending probably dropped that at least a point for me in the rating. It was quite entertaining and thrilling almost the entire time, but the end felt rushed and then it felt semi-cheesy. I think Samuel L Jackson's character here is pretty similar to other angry/volatile SLJ characters, but it was slightly different. Liked it a lot, but it doesnt strike me as a "owner" bc of its limited rewatachability.

On the other hand, Brothers would definitely be a movie I would add to the library. Really the entire cast was fantastic. I love Donnie Darko, but I will stand by my statement that Jake Gyllenenenehaaeaellll and Tobey Maguire have their best performances to date in this one, and the rest of the cast is right there with them. Its not a war movie perse, but family and individual wise, it might be the best war psychology movie Ive ever seen (well, I guess Apocalypse Now has a lot of war psych (albeit just the actual soldier(s). Its not that good, but maybe best of recent memory).

"Hitman"--been a fan of Tim Olyphant for quite a while now.  Action packed and quintessential Olyphant pithyness.

"Knight and Day"--Tom Cruise make a good movie this time

Great movie...first watch or have you seen it before?

Every time I watch this movie, I never understand why Eric Roberts didnt turn into a big actor. Im not saying a box office star, just a guy who could basically pick the roles he wanted. He's undoubtedly talented, I think in Greenwich Village is his best performance, but I still have no idea how he basically was relinquished to being a B-movie star/lead for the last 20+ years.

Forgot to post my short but simple review here. Saw it last weekend, really liked it, definitely go see it!

Super 8

Really enjoyed it. From start to finish, the kid actors (all unknown really) dominate it and their dialogue/interactions throughout were reminiscent of the Goonies and Stand By Me, which are classics by my standards. The story kept me intrigued, I thought they revealed the story/info at a perfect pace, and that helped keep the last act as interesting as it was. Saw it with my 14yr old sister, and 53yr old mother, and we all liked it. It definitely spans ages and genres, but it was just very well done all around and when it comes down to it a movie I think most would at least enjoy.

The Tree of Life Trailer 2011 HD

Saw this tonight and I loved it. I see why some people hated it (actually, some have booed, walked out, demanded refunds, etc...) but I loved it. In fact, it may be one of the best "films" I have ever seen. But, it's definently not for everyone and I'm not remotely close to being a film snob.

I believe the boos and walkouts came at this year's Cannes, but this is not uncommon regarding the fest. Malick is a treasure; too bad he isn't more prolific.

There's some pretty good hate and gnashing of the teeth over on the IMDb message board for this one:
