can't believe i left black sabbath off the list! haha when they played it at Term 5 i nearly lost my mind. my buddy Honest Man was w/ me and this dude in front of us had the "i just got my mind blown out the back of my head" look on his face. We still laugh about it to this day. lol

i don't even know 'new morning and mother in law'.. are they from Yims solo tapings?

New morning is a Nick Cave cover, its on "does xmas fiasco style", and Mother in Law is a cover they did with preservation halll last summer, dunno who wrote it though.

No Top 10, but my #1 is "Northern Sky" by Nick Drake. I witnessed MMJ performing it several years ago in Toronto as a tribute to the city and to Canada.  The crowd semed openly touched by the gesture, although few knew the Nick Drake tune, but not including me.

from Wikipedia: "Mother-in-Law" is the name of a hit 1961 single by Ernie K-Doe. The song was a number-one hit in the U.S. on both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B charts.[1]. The song was written and produced by Allen Toussaint who also played the piano solo. It was issued by Minit Records. Huey Lewis and the News recorded the song for the 1994 covers album, Four Chords & Several Years Ago.

On the MMJ archive site, they give credit to Allen Toussaint.

Check this site out for a thorough list of MMJ covers with MP3 links:

Mother in Law was written by Allen Toussaint, who I have read Jim refer to as Sweet T!  I was lucky enough to see him open up for Neil Young last year and that is a pretty great description for him.   He was a complete joy to watch on the piano.  He was just beaming up there, happy as he could be to have an audience.  It was great listening to him tell the stories of all of the songs he has written.  He has written countless songs for other people that I was not aware that he had written.

I just watched MMJ and Eddie Vedder do The Who's  A Quick One. Holy Crap! The Who and MMJ are my 2 all time favorites, and I do like Pearl Jam. I think Pete would be proud. Patrick is unbelievable. Just look at my avatar to see Who would be impressed.
