I'm reading the review for It Still Moves on pitchfork and it says he records his vocals in an empty grain silo. I just wanna see if anybody can confirm this. Also, pics??????

That was only during the recording of It Still Moves.  It was on Johnny Quaid's grandparent's farm in Shelbyville, KY, also known as the Above the Cadillac Studios.  They recorded a lot of their earlier material there but the grain solo only came into use when the got money from ATO to record ISM. Unfortunately, when Johnny left the band (the next year) the studio got dismantled.

The It Still Moves EPK has some good footage from the barn.  You can see the outside of the grain solo at one point but not Jim recording inside of it.  I don't know of any pics that exist of that.

Last year we went see a Sam Erickson exhibit at the Morrison Hotel Gallery.  Thought I would share this link -- a couple of photos from It Still Moves -- this one might be taken in the silo

Don't give away any secrets.  What Jim really does is closes his eyes and imagines the sound in his head until it sounds like a vox and then the electricity from his brain makes the sound waves bounce off the silo and generated a type of vibration and reverberation that can then be transferred into a recording device, but that isn't possible...yeah...just tell this guy jim uses the vox, that might be an easier process for a beginner.  I like vox, I use that sometimes too (sans silo).

You'll never figure it out, don't even try.  It will give you a bit of a headache.

Such great footage!  Maybe in another lifetime I can be reincarnated as a guy who gets to shoot footage of a band like this.

I still love the sound of It Still Moves best... huzzah for grain silos!
