I'm gonna use most of the festival to find new music, like the Kentucky bands that are on the undercard of Friday. Never heard of Sleeper Agent, Nerves Junior, or Wax Fang before but have enjoyed all I've heard through Spotify.

Cabin is another Louisville band you should check out.  I've been meaning to check them out for a while now, but I'd never heard them until the line-up was announced and now I'm can't stop listening to them!

It most likely wont be a live band but him up there making the stuff(not as much prerecorded as most). I am not a bigfan of electronic music but think it is fun and interesting. Caught Bonobo twice and while its nothing to get worked up over it will be a chiller jazzier vibe w/more dancier stuff than the links posted.

Beats Antique (has been opening up for bassnectar and touring on their own) is by far the most interesting 'do not miss' of the newer 'ravier' stuff. All live instruments(well played and diverse), a belly dancer, and ive even seen them come out to cirque du soleit trapeeze artists before at a late night show(edit: nm that wasnt them). If you can be close enough to see them make their music do not turn it down.

They are offering their new album as a free download.   Very cool and generous.   I will check out as part of my forecastle prep.

I downloaded that cause it was free, but I have no plans on prepping any purely dance music. If the feelings right I'll watch and dance, but I don't think prepping would make it any more fun

I reallllllyyy doubt MMJ will be opposed. I don't think you'll have to worry about any interference there. If it's your first MMJ show, you're in for a treat. 3 hr MMJ show isn't that crazy of an idea, so be prepared for it.

Hah, well I'd read around somewhere that Louisville has some sort of curfew. So I was thinking maybe it wouldn't happen. But if it does, as much as I wanna see Bonobo or whoever else will be playing during MMJ's set, no way am I missing their whole set. I hope the rumor that Neko Case is playing before Wilco, and not at the same time, is true. I'd like to see her.

Actually, what I'd REALLY like to do is hit up a fairly equal amount of electronic/rock/folksy music. Not sure if it will be possible, but crossing my fingers.

neko will play before wilco. it just makes too much sense for her not to. she better. wilco and neko are two of my all time favorites....as a neko fan though, i will say, she's really not much to see live in this type of setting unless you are familiar with and love her music.

for instance, when she was opening for mmj this past tour, she seemed to get drowned out by the environment. i have also seen her as a headliner in a smaller more intimate venue though, and that is a real treat.

Listening to Sleigh Bells right now and I can't tell if I like or hate them. Seems like there is a decent pop songwriting under all the noise, so that's good. Still a bit annoying, though.

Anyone who's seen Flying Lotus here? I love his albums, but I wonder if his live show is actually any good..? As much as I like what DJs do, I wish I understood it. With rock music it's easy to see oh hey he's strumming a guitar and hitting some chords. With a DJ I'm just wondering "what the hell is he doing with all those knobs"

That kind of makes sense.  I've seen her in a "theatre" type place and it was AMAZING, so I was dissapoined when I was getting a lot of "mehs" from people who saw her open for MMJ.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

I just want to be more educated.   Right now I couldn't tell you one thing about any of the dance acts.   I agree it may not make it more fun, but listening a little may help me pick wisely if I decide I want to check one out.

That said, I'd much prefer they add some more bands for Friday night.   Heartless Bastards, Delta Spirit are two that come to mind.

There is documented proof that Delta Spirit said they were playing. I'm hoping they didn't speak too soon

Really looking forward to Beach House..

Beach House was way better live than I expected it to be when I saw them at the 9:30 club.  I'd be a bit concerned, though, how it would come off in a festival setting, particularly during the day.

I also saw Atlas Sound recently and it was really good, just Bradford Cox playing a very effects-laden acoustic guitar and doing lots of interesting things with tape loops.  Trust me, it was better than I just made it sound.

Did anyone see the story about Atlas Sound recently doing a 60-minute cover of "My Sharona"?  I think Pitchfork and some other places had a story about it, it was supposedly done in response to an annoying request shouter.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

I saw Beach House in a relatively small dark venue at night in their adopted town, Baltimore, about year and a half ago.  I think some people would classify their music in the "shoegazing" realm and I certainly enjoy that at times, like Mazzy Star.  I liked the show but it lacked variety IMHO, sort of on the opposite spectrum, in this regard, from MMJ.  I would like to see them again but I agree that they may not be ideal for an afternoon festival slot.  We shall see.

Stevie

1.  Delta Spirit - Awesome if true.  Saw 'em open in Greensboro and thoroughly enjoyed them.

2.  Beach House - They've only got two albums out, will have a third by the time Forecastle rolls around.  It all sounds pretty similar.  Teen Dream is very much a collection of like-sounding songs.  So yeah, i would expect that their set isn't very diverse but if you really love beach house's sound then this is a good thing.  I do.  I think it's a good thing.

3.  Flying Lotus - You can see him ten times and you will get ten different sets.  Like most electronic performing artists, it's not going to be all improv.  He has an idea of what he will do and he rehearses within that framework.  I don't know what equipment he uses to push buttons on but i do know that it's more complex than a couple decks to fade between.  I would reckon that he has many loops and samples from his music and others, as well as some samples from things like movies, commercials, whatever..  To understand what he's doing you would need knowledge of and probably experience with the software as well as the hardware he uses.  Bottom line, though, it will be a great set.  He has great fans.  The vibe will be incredible.  Don't miss it.

I know I'll love seeing Sleeper Agent, Wax Fang, etc in a live setting just for fun, but I think Cabin is the first Louisville band from Forecastle where I can see myself listening long after Forecastle. This is great.

e_wind

I generally regard my favorite "local" act as Wax Fang because ive seen so much of em, listned to em for so long, etc. Cabin flies under the radar a lot, but their Among the Rectangles album is by far the best "local" album right now. They are so good

Oh, hey!  Speaking of Beach House:  New album = leaked.

Stevie

So the lady and I have decided to hike it up to All Good festival the weekend after Forecastle.  Any recommendations for camping spots and/or cabin rentals between Louisville and Thornville, OH?  Fishing is a high priority so something on a river or lake would be ideal.

i too will be at all good. ive never been to legend valley so i have no advice
