for all my fancy bourbon-lovers staying at the galt:

Jockey Silks Bourbon Bar and Lounge offers a place to relax and unwind while choosing from over 150 Kentucky bourbons. The cozy venue was named one of Whisky Magazine's "Best Bourbon Bars in the World."

Fancy.  Somehow I imagine flasks of evan williams and mistsys will win out :)  Whose mistys were they anyway? I'm lookin' at you ruckus!

e_wind or anyone who knows, have there typically been late night (or other club/boat) events on the Thursday before the festival?

there is MMJ meet up show that I'm currently planning, including my friend and yours Dylan (amilliondreams on here). Which will include funkier/groovier music later in the night. Its all local though, just a fun event...

but no there are usually no official pre party shows. In 2010 Beats Antique played a pre show the night before

Cool....thanks.  Need to book flights now and wasn't sure whether to arrive early Friday or mid/late-day Thursday.  Gonna try to make the meet-up!!  Thanks for organizing!!

come Thurs night!

we're gonna do something, maybe BBC Brewery or aMD playing some tunes somewhere-

leaving Eric in charge of this!  ;)
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

I can't wait Trish!   I forgot to mention how constantly entertained I am by penny's dyslexia when typing your handle.  My girlfriend and I have every intention of milking our life savings there.

I haven't had a chance to gush over the lineup yet but I'm pretty damn happy.  I'm sorry gc Jr.  Wasn't announced.   I hope he gets added for you.

Wife and I are leaving after work Wednesday, driving either all night, or stopping roughly 1/2 way to stay in a cheap motel and then continue on. We are taking Thursday and Most of Friday to explore L'ville, maybe watch the ponies run.

This line-up looks pretty effing good so far.  Just having MMJ and Wilco back to back nights is worth the price of admission for me.

I think my highlight act that I was most surprised and excited to see (outside of Wilco) was Dean Wareham Plays Galaxie 500!!! :D  I am absolutey thrilled to see him on this line-up!!!      Galaxie was one of my favorite bands back when I was in high school and I only got to see them live once before they broke up so this has me totally psyched!!!  8)

I'd like to come in Thurs. night, but seeing Wilco on Sunday means we will be staying Sunday night in addition to Friday and Saturday night.  Wife and I will be leaving early that Friday morning and it's about a 5 hour drive into Louisville for us so hoping to be in sometime after lunch.

Ruckus

Will be in early Thursday and will be at Churchill Downs that day.  I'm sure Chode won't show or will be late.  Dinner and bourbon sounds like a great start for the late night Thursday festivities.  I'm looking forward to Atmosphere as well.  I haven't seen him in a decade and I'm glad I won't likely have to miss anything to catch him.

I had not planned to come until Friday, but I may have to change my plans now. I'm still not sure who is coming with me to this. I've got three possibilities. I'm just waiting for choice #1 to make up her mind. I'll have to see if I can swing an extra night because a forum meet up would be a blast.

This is your last chance to prove 1.  your existence and 2. your dedication, Chode.  ;D

I would love to join Thurs but being gone 4 nights is impossible.   I was waiting to see the lineup under the theory I may come Thurs and scoot out Sunday if that day didn't look fantastic.   But Sunday is strong and Wilco is a must-stick-around-for, so flying out Mon and therefore no Thurs   :( :( :(

For some fun reading, check out each artist's description on the Forecastle site. Not your typical bios, they are all written just for Forecastle.

Interesting tidbit from the PHJB bio:

QuoteIf you haven't been to New Orleans, a stop at the Preservation Hall club is a must. If you have been to the Big Easy and not stopped by, what the hell were you thinking? Regardless, seven members of the legendary Pres Hall house band will be making an extra special appearance (more on that later) at Forecastle for a rousing set of Dixieland jazz.

After show???

I'm thinking just PHJB as MMJ horn section at a minimum obviously.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

You'll be at Churchill and probably find me as a jockey on a horse called My Running Jacket and Penny will be amazed at my dedication.

I really don't know how I can mess this one up short of driving my car into a river on the ride out there.

Don't worry, you're not alone.  I haven't booked flights yet but will do Southwest out of Manchester Friday and back Monday.  I've got a free one-way flight with Southwest, so... I let you know the deets.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Roll call bundle is awesome, will be in for that, but not really sold on the entire lineup.

Only one that really excites me is Jeff, but them and MMJ are enough for me.

I'm actually kinda glad I haven't heard half the bands on this lineup. Gives me something to do for the next four months.
