Power was out then on the out then on now been out for nearly 2 hours. There have been tons of transformers going off. More than I can count, but there's artificial light on the horizon so not everyone is down I guess.

For those of you trying to understand geographically, I'm about 30 miles west of tdb and 90 miles north-northwest of Eric. My town was nearly destroyed in Irene but bounced back after freak floods hit the area. I don't anticipate that hitting us this time since the ground wasn't too saturated prior to this storm. The wind is the worst I've experienced and I've been on the beach during a few Cat 1's before.

It's been all over the news here today. I hope you're all alright.
How loud can silence get?

Hoping Eric is OK and didn't suffer too much damage.  Seems like coastal NJ got it very bad.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

I'm wondering how he's doing too. Hopefully, he's just without power. Check in when you can, Eric.

Yeah, worried about that guy and his place. Hope we hear from him soon, and that all our east-coasters are safe.

I echo the sentiments in hoping all our forum friends in the path of this huge storm are OK.

I can't imagine what it must have been like being on the east coast.  Here in Ohio, we had it pretty bad up along the lake.  It looked like a freaking hurricane blowing in off of Lake Erie last night and we had sustained 30-40 mph winds that continue today.  I've never seen anything like this here in Ohio.

When my girls see hurricanes on the news they always get scared and I always tell them that we can't have hurricanes in Ohio.  They weren't so sure of that going to bed last night with the wind and rain beating down on our house...  :undecided:

stay safe my friends, and we can all celebrate life in 2 months together

Don't have details, but reports from Eric, Jeff, and Trish are that they are OK.  I imagine Eric evacuated.  Any word from Brooke, Penny, or any of our other NYC gals?
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Brooke just posted that she's ok, but without power and cell service.

thanks for the updates johnny & fully.
it's such a weird thing to be so geographically removed from this storm and to hear from people in the heart of it via twitter.  a friend of mine in NJ posted this:
Please consider volunteering when the call goes out. Too soon to know where help is needed but the call will be loud when it comes.

I heard from Ericm by text, that he is ok. He did evacuate.  Penny texted me last night that she was ok but without power, and keeping her phone off to conserve.

I worry very much for our friend Brian with the bagpipes (i can't remember his forum name, but we met him at MPP in 2010).....he is from Breezy Point in Queens where 80 homes burned....

There is really unbelievable devastation surrounding us here in the tri state area...hoping and praying that things get better soon, and that all of our friends are safe.

yawn.  the big city gets one storm in the last century and everybody flips.  this shit happens during tornado season every year to the center of the country and nobody gives a fuck.  biggest overreaction to weather, ever.

Brian's screen name was Dodobird.  I hope he is OK.

I'm fortunate to have heard from all my NYC/Jersey friends and they came away physically unscathed.  Best wishes in a quick recovery.

We were extremely lucky here with only many with lost power and downed trees in our hood.

Dodobird! That's him.  Now the count is over 100 homes decimated there...miraculously, there don't seem to have been any fatalities.

As we see the pictures and coverage of the aftermath, I try to remain upbeat and remind myself that there are could have been many more injuries and deaths - a total of 51 dead and a nuber of people missing, so far.

The problem now seems to be gas lines, and a town called Mantoloking is on fire - not accessible from the mainland...unable to be reached by firefighters.

Not sure this is the thread for your "look at me" show, Sticky.  Take it somewhere else.

Sounds like all our Jacketeers are safe and sound.  Good news.

tbd810 is neither old, stupid, nor ugly. This is not the appropriate time for this. ericm is facing home damage or loss as are many, many more.  I live in an area that's had many severe tornados and I disagree that no one cares when it happens in the middle of the country. This is the most highly populated area of the nation. The potential for disaster was of epic proportions. While I consider it lucky that there was as limited damage as there was, I seriously doubt that anyone who lost their home, possessions or life would feel that they were lucky.
