Assuming any of you actually make it to the shows after buttchugging and bleach and whatever else is going on at the forum pre-parties, what are your expectations for the setlists?  Are you expecting a repeat of the Wiltern setlists pretty much?  What didn't they play?  What other options are there?  Do you anticipate these other options or would it be a long shot?

For comparison, here's the Wiltern setlists:

Set night 1

War Begun
I Will Sing You Songs

The Day Is Coming
Touch Me 2.

Encore -

Setlist night 3 -

Encore:

It looks like the only fairly obvious omissions are Death is the Easy Way, Knot Comes Loose, Nashville to Kentucky, Into The Woods, Come Closer, They Ran, and maybe a Never Tear Us Apart cover.  I expect they will alter the order, although the flow of these sets over the course of 3 nights is pretty solid already.  So, thoughts...
Sisyphus - Just rollin' that rock up the hill, and hoping it doesn't crush me on the way back down..

I still want to see them do Can You See the Hard Helmet On My Head?
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

The one thing about this three night run compared to the Wiltern is that they have had some serious time off since their last show.  If they were so inclined, they could go back and really dust off some old stuff that hasn't been played in a long long time.  They could also be cooking up something weird too.  Who knows.  I'm just happy that the day is finally coming.  A little over two weeks now.  It's becoming surreal.

Okay, back to the original question:  Yeah, i mean there are too many staple songs and not enough albums for them to change it up too terribly much.  Songs like Hopefully and Picture of You will most likely get switched out for songs like They Ran and Death is the Easy Way while the Off the Records maintain their stranglehold.  It truly is what it is.

definitely don't think it will be a repeat of Wiltern but will be similar of course in that they'll need to fill 3 nights of songs with no repeats so more covers, more deep cuts.  We may see a couple of new covers, maybe something owing to the lineage of the Cap Theater.

all i know is that it is going to be awesome.
Don't you ever turn it off

I hadn't thought of that, that could be interesting.

the history of this building will not be lost on these guys.  I can almost hear Jim saying something about being filled with spirits past of this beautiful place and then starting off a new or dusted off cover.

I'm going to night 1... I expect the shows to be similar to the varied set's from the wiltern and red rocks... it will be nothing short of that I'd expect.

To build off of the comment about owing to the Cap's lineage, how about Floyd's "Fearless"? One of my all-time favorite songs, I'd love to hear them do it!

Shug

Did Floyd play there?  Fearless is one of my faves, too.  Have you heard the Black Crowes' version when Marc Ford was on lead guitar?

This one is Rich Robinson and his band.  Not too shabby (except for the technical probs).  MMJ could definitely do this one justice, too.

Rich Robinson - Fearless - Islington Academy, London - February 2012

Man, night 1 of the Wiltern run was such a superb show.  I'd guess the Port Chester shows will be similar with a few rarities and covers changed up and the sequences mixed up.  I'm really bummed I'm not gonna be there...

If they did a Fearless cover I would freak!

Angelo

Nice, thanks for sharing Shug. I didn't know they covered it. While watching that video though I just kept thinking how MMJ would absolutely tear the shit out of that song. Would love to see it. And yes, Floyd played there back in the 70s if I'm not mistaken.

manonthemoon

I expect greatness .

But I wouldn't be too suprised if the set lists are similar to the Wiltern shows as they will probably hit all of their better known songs, but they might switch  it up with some of the deeper cuts or less played songs making appearances.  I would also like to see maybe a special cover or 2 that they haven't done before since they have had so much time off to get ready for these shows.
Alive or Just Breathing

exist10z

Yeah, I keep forgetting the extra time off.  The Wiltern shows were sandwiched in the regular tour, so maybe there will be a little something extra, extra for Port Chester.  This thought is really getting my hopes up even higher, although a repeat of The Wiltern shows would be fine too...
Sisyphus - Just rollin' that rock up the hill, and hoping it doesn't crush me on the way back down..

e_wind

I think they'll be a real treat, for reasons already listed here: history of the cap and after a long break. They played the area already this year, too. Being in PC and not NYC, I'd think they expect a lot more travelers and less casual fans. Also, they have to know that there will be many crazies doing the 4 night run.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

itrainmonkeys

Did they play any holiday themed songs at Wiltern? I imagine we'd get some of those even though it's after Xmas.

robb

Now that they have 3 Band covers at their disposal, I wouldn't rule out getting a different one each night (Ophelia, It Makes No Difference, Dixie).
some get stoned, some get strange, sooner or later it all gets real.

That would be sweet!

Have to agree with the "friends again" request... I would also love "by my car" or "oxen"! Finally got to hear into the woods in Philly, now this would be my chance to hear all my favorites live!

gardenparty

the two Wiltern omissions i was most suprised about were Bermuda Highway and The Bear

As Shug stated earlier, Night 1 Wiltern was the bees knees.  Since i'll only be at the first Cap show i sure hope it is most similar to that one.
