This year's Spontaneous Curation Series has seen some of the best Jacket shows in the last 6 years. Between Forecastle, Red Rocks, The Wiltern, Port Chester, and NYE, it is impossible to deny that the group scratched almost every itch for us diehard fans. If you had to pick, which were your three favorite shows of 2012.

1. Red Rocks 8/3
2. Port Chester 12/27
3. Boston 12/31

I would have to assume one of the Red Rocks shows was the best, depending on your taste. The second one was 3 1/2 hours. Since they are usually mind blowing each night, quantity takes it for me. (Honorable mention to forecastle for the bananas and the surrealistic OBH)

Fully

Red Rocks 8/3 - I choose deeper over longevity every time.
Port Chester 12/27 - Loved the other two nights as well, but this one had Octoplasm, Evelyn, the jam after Outta My System, Sooner, Nashville to KY, Twilight, Butch Cassidy, Cobra...
Forecastle - Soundcheck Party/Under the Overpass - Probably the only time I'm going to see the band under an interstate overpass.

I would say the 3 shows I think were the best were

RR Night 1 (I was at this show)
RR Night 2 (I was at this show)
PC Night 1 (I wasn't at this show)

But I haven't heard every show recorded this year. I tried to listen to as many as possible but just haven't had the time.

let us not forget MPP, which was the meat inside the delicious east coast trifecta

selfishly voting for PC3 and the Trifecta, as I was lucky enought to be at all 6!
What's in here won't disappear

Caught Forecastle (+ soundcheck) & Marymoore this year. I absolutey LOVED their Marymoor show - they just seemed more at ease, completely in their element...t'was a lovely vibe. The venue itself is pretty fantastic too (in a forest).

I've been fortunate to see them play at some pretty stunning venues: the gorge, red rocks, their hometown, beautiful Marymoor. Looking forward to many more moons of this :)
These pretzels are making me thirsty.

Of the shows I attended, I'd have to put Red Rocks 2 (8/4/12) as number 1.

Consider the following:

3.5 hours
Steam Engine, Dondante, Run Thru, and Phone Went West
Honest Man, Oh Sweet Nuthin', The Bear
M-F'in John Oates

Case closed.

I'd then put Red Rocks 1 (8/3/12) as number 2.  I remember at the time not even being able to conceive of how they could top this show for night 2, but they did.

For #3, I would probably put PC#3, but Forecastle and Merriweather are serious contenders for that slot as well.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

I went to Red Rocks & Brooklyn (AP as well but that doesn't count in this discussion) and would agree with this assessment having now heard all three PC shows. I thought night 1 from RR had a better flow then night 2 but I'll give the nod to night 2 because of that monster encore. I haven't heard any of the Wiltern shows.

Chicago was indeed not a good show.  Fortunately, the company was great.

So I see lot's of mentioning of PC. None of Wiltern. Is that because PC was 10 days ago, and just more present, or was is significantly different than Wiltern, which was 3 Amazingly different shows with different vibes each night.

If I can expand to include Keene, then of those I attended...

1. Jim and Carl in Keene, NH
2. MMJ @ Newport Folk Festival
3. MMJ @ MPP, Columbia, MD

honorable mention
MMJ @ The Mann, Philly
MMJ @ Forecastle (esp. Under the Overpass)
MMJ on NYE

other 2012 show
MMJ @ Brooklyn
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

that's why it got so downgraded on my list      just kidding of course... actually it was the beer lines!  (that and NYE were two of the worst concession set-ups I've ever seen)

The beer lines at NYE made me extremely grateful for my no-drinks-after-the-opening-act policy.
"...it's gonna be great -- I mean me coming back with the band and playing all those hits again"

wonderfulman

If you guys hate beer lines/beer policies, never go to the United Palace Theatre in NYC. I saw Fleet Foxes there in 2011 and you aren't allowed to bring beer into the concert hall. They serve beer at the concession stands but you are not allowed to bring it to your seats. Then, you turn around an notice that 15 people are chugging their beers.

rincon2

Wiltern had about 5 or 6 bars, two of them in the audience area. $26 for 2 beers, but no lines and no missed music. If only they had urinals in the audience!
