Aww yeah Jim James back in my hometown! The place where my My Morning Jacket fascination was born.
Would also love a Ryman date Fully! Doesn't Bonnaroo have a clause that would prohibit that though? Also this limited fanclub only show pretty much rules out a Ryman date I would think?

The roo radius clause is 60 days before and after and is 300 miles around...encompasses Nashville, Louisville, Atlanta, Birmingham, and Tuscaloosa...Raleigh and Little Rock for example are still ok and just fall out of that radius

Curious to know where you got this information? I've seen people on boards talk a lot about radius clauses but then they never can provide specifics like this. Interested to see if that's the official thing or something you were told or whatever. Not saying you are wrong....it's just interesting that I finally see someone provide what the specifics of the clause are.

"The pursuit of exclusivity is what drives the so-called radius clauses included in the contracts bands sign with festivals. A common radius clause says that a band may not play another show for 60 days before and after the festival within a 300 mile radius of the festival grounds. For a band playing Bonnaroo, in Manchester, Tenn. on June 10, that would mean four spring and summer months with no shows in Nashville, Atlanta, Louisville or Tuscaloosa. (Raleigh's fine. So is Little Rock.)"

npr...from last year

look forward to meeting you at the roo, ITR...i'm pretty sure we were at T5 together and Brooklyn this past summer but didn't meet. were you at PC or Boston?

Awesome Scosby, thanks for that info. Exactly what I've been looking for/wondering about

Yea, I was at T5 as well as BK in the summer. Was up at Port Chester as well but hadn't met anyone from the board yet. I unknowingly met a handful of people at the Jim James show last night (didn't find out til now who I was talking to haha).

I am almost definitely going to be at Roo this year. Have been going since 2005 and only missed the 2010 festival since I started. This year will be more than special with two Jim James sets, a McCartney headliner show and tons of other bands I love. I'll be around and staying at Camp Inforoo in tent only (members of Inforoo.com). Definitely down for a meet up. If anything, I'll be waiting to get as close as I can at the Superjam.

Got my ticket. See you all in June :)

Who else is ready for a weekend on the farm?  It is just about a month away.

So... Wilco is scheduled to play at the same time as Jim James. My initial thought was that it was an easy decision... go see Jim for sure. I haven't been able to catch his solo set yet this tour. I've seen Wilco many times and they are one of my favorite bands, plus I will be seeing them do a full set during the Americanarama tour at the end of June. The only problem is that Wilco is on the What stage right before Paul McCartney. If I get there early for Wilco I would have a great spot for McCartney too. Plus, I plan on seeing Jim's Rock & Soul late night set anyway. I'm so torn.

Any advice? This is my 6th Bonnaroo and one of my worst conflicts ever.

e_wind

Personally I would go Wilco w/o question.... though I've seen JJ solo set a couple times.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

bigeazyfish

I won't be in attendance this year, but I don't think I'd miss the chance to see something special from Jim.

The problem is that if you don't go to Wilco, you will have an awful spot and it gets horribly crowded the closer it gets to headliner time. Last year for Radiohead, you had to fall over bodies to get to a spot. Even if you want to see Jim and I kind of do although I've now seen his show four times, you will be miserable at McCartney if you can get anywhere near close at all. The headliner shows are horrible to try to move around in. I've never seen a Beatle perform and I'd like to do it at least once, so I'll probably miss Jim and go to Wilco. I don't have to be really close for McCartney, but I'd like to be somewhere not in the back. The sound isn't very good the farther back you get and all the latecomers trample all over you.

I'll be on the rail for Jim.

Wilco a couple weeks later.

Yeah, that's got me bothered too. I'm going to see Wilco three times in less than a month. I like them, but they don't do it for me the same way Jim and MMJ does, but I'm probably going with Wilco bc of the reasons I've stated above even though I would much rather see Jim's show for the fifth time. His music speaks to something in my spirit in a way that Wilco - while enjoyable- does not.

itrainmonkeys

This is one of my biggest conflicts and I curse the Roo gods for setting it up.

I love both bands/artists. They were probably my top draws this year besides McCartney. Having them conflicting hurts.

I have decided to catch most of Wilco and then book it over for the Jim James show. I've seen him twice on tour already (NYC) and will be seeing him after Roo with the Roots (NYC again) and at Newport Folk Festival in July. Plus, the Jim James superjam is where I'll be getting as close as possible (sorry Mumford and Sons.....I love ya but the Superjam is once in a lifetime).

MrWhippy

I'm going to see Jim.  I've seen both a ton of times (about 25 for Wilco and over 30 for MMJ/Jim), but Jim is what speaks to me more at this time, and thus has more potential to blow my mind.

The getting a spot for Paul McCartney doesn't really factor into my decision on this one.  It feels a bit like admitting to being a terrible, evil person or something, but the thought of seeing McCartney is just not that exciting to me.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

yakeroo

What a pickle. I think I am going to try part Wilco part John Mclaughlin and 4th deminsion, then try to make Jim's encore. Would love to be close for Sir Paul, but will likely be at the back next to the Praters BBQ booth chowing down on some smoked wings.

Mahgeetah34

Yakeroo does love those Praters wings. I had planned on being rail for Jim, but it'll be the album in order then probably be the usual encore. I haven't gotten into Wilco yet so I'm going to see Earl Sweatshirt and Big KRIT.

Earl Sweater and Big who? He is not kidding folks.Have fun with that.

I have no idea how to link to it, but on the news section of the Bonnaroo app there is an interview with Patrick about late night at Roo.

Fully

I've seen Big Krit before. It wasn't as interesting a show as Childish Gambino and ThreeSixMafia and I hated 36.

I'm guessing this was perhaps Beale Street 2012? I've only seen Childish Gambino

The Jim/Wilco conflict is one of Roo's most heartbreaking. I would rather see Jim, BUT the McCartney factor means I'm catching Wilco. Hardly a sacrifice when your choice means you get to see one of the best bands on the planet, but it kills me to think that I am going to miss something special from Jim. Jim loves the Roo, and we all know he'll bring his A-game. But McCartney is McCartney, and I gotta get a decent spot. I'm sure I won't be the only one whose primary Jim content that weekend will come from the SuperJam.
