Not knowing anything whatsoever about the place, I'm down to meet up at Matilda's if that's what the locals are suggesting.  This is gonna be a long two month wait...
Ah yes...the inevitable wait for Jim solo or the band.  But I always look at it as exciting because I know I have a great show I'll be going to.  I have never been to Matilda's myself, but the website looks good and of course like I said before, it is down the street.

I've never been to Matilda's either but looking at the website it looks good to me! Now I might have to drive into the city without my friends as they are usually late to everything, lol!

Matilda's is very chill place, y'all will enjoy the atmosphere there. Some of the other bars in the area are a bit too "Wrigleyville"... expensive and predictible, not the ideal vibe before heading to the show. Of couse there is always Trader Todd's karaoke bar right across the street from Vic (it's owned by Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds)

I know this show is sold out, however, if you want a 2 nighter, the Pabst theatre still has tickets for sale, and it's a great venue.

That being said lol how much better can it get than seeing Jim on 4/20

Hey Tater, Sorry it's been awhile since I have been by to check-in around these parts, I live fairly close to the Vic, and have visted the bars in the area numerous times. In response to your suggestions, Big City Tap aka Big Shitty Tap is most famous for being a 4am bar as a last resort for a Sophmore year drunken hook-up. Definitely not chill atmosphere, and not somewhere I would recommend to any friend that was going to a show at the Vic (even with proximity).

Cheesies Pub and Grill is this new subs/grilled cheese bar, that I have not yet been to, but I will be honest, the place looks kinda dumpy. I'm guessing it is another late night bar, with a fair share of shady people present.

Walking down towards the other way on Sheffield, you will find the previously mentioned Matilda's and Kirkwood (which is alse very nice and great food, but can get expensive)

Another option if it is nice out..... Sheffield's Beer Garden (awesome Beer selection) which is also within a couple blocks away. I'm sure we can get some tables reserved, the good news is, the Cubs will not be in town this day, and the bars in the area should not be "as packed" as they normally would be on a Sautrday evening in baseball season.

I know where I'm going after the show!

LOL Big City Tap was a bar we went to over 13 years ago when I lived in the city and was 22 years old. It was definitely a 4am type of bar. I am game for anywhere other than here, haha

Just curious, has anyone received their tickets in the mail yet?  It dawned on me the other day that I don't physically have them..

I don't have mine yet.  I think we usually get them about 1 - 2 weeks before the show.   I bought another pair through the public sale and got those 2 weeks after I bought them.

When I ordered my tickets thru roll call, they indicated that the tickets should be mailed around April 5th.. Why, I'm not sure, but I think if you check your order on roll call it should say that it is processed and I think it shows a shipping date on there.  When I bought my tickets for the Pabst show in Milwaukee, I bought 1 for me then another 1 for my husband 2 days later, but they mailed them together which I thought was cool.
Does anyone have anymore thought on a meeting place before the show?

Ahh, you are correct.  Checked my order under the Roll Call account and says shipping 4/5/13.  Wasn't worried, just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything.

My vote is for Matilda's for pre-show festivities, cool place and it's just down the block...but I live close by so I do just about anywhere..

I'm down to be at Matilda's fairly early, and I think that's what my roommate and I are planning on.  We'll be getting to Chicago around 12:30 or so, and then we're gonna head over to the hotel and shower up and everything and probably walk on down to Matilda's.  Probably going to head to the venue pretty early too.

We did end up getting a room at the Drake, for a really great price, prepaid.
We understand it's the '90s.

pattilovesmmj

LOL, what I remember about the Drake hotel as a kid was that it was always sponsoring talk shows:  "accomodations are provided by the luxurious Drake hotel located in beautiful downtown Chicago".  It's a super cool hotel.

Matilda's sounds good especially since we've got a roll call friend who is reccomending it!  And it's in walking distance to the Vic isn't it?

Jim James and his band of old friends!!!!!  When I watched the pitchfork video of AEIOU it was so similar to the performance in Nashville and I told my friend his flying V aint there for no reason...damn he was friggin awesome.  Can I get an Amen? LOL
