I think Jim was inspired to do Hopefully by someone who was holding up a sign for it for the whole main set.  We were kind of laughing at this person's persistence and dedication (they literally never put the sign down), but I guess it was rewarded.

Note Taken
I NEEDED IT MOST WHENEVER tbh

Damn, I feel like the second half of this tour is getting much better encores!  I be jealous.
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

Got to say, it was indeed a great show.   Re: the person holding the Hopefully sign -- I guess it's cool that they played it, but man, that was annoying being the person behind them and constantly having that sign blocking my view.  And not only that, but when Jim would walk off to the side of the stage and let the band do their thing, those people would stalk Jim trying to flag his attention and point to the sign.  Kinda rude IMO.  I eventually moved.  Ok, off my soapbox, blah.  Kinda enjoyed the view the balcony even better.
I haven't heard/seen any live clips from this tour so I was really surprised how they do an extended jam on God's Love -- didn't see that one coming.. was really awesome.

But...But....But.... Hopefully!!!

I agree thought that it would get old fast... Then again, HOPEFULLY!!!

It was a terrific show.  Being on the rail was pretty awesome.  Of course, Mr. Whippy and Flake are great to hang out with.  But everyone around our area that I met were really cool and so stoked for the show.  It does seem like MMJ fans are quite cool and knowledgable about music.  Of course there were a couple people yelling things inappropriately but not often.

Almost every song from the album was extended with some interesting and rocking jam.  I am not the biggest M of Folk fan, but I liked those songs better in person.  I didn't think Changing World would be a great closer, but it turned out to be a great one thanks to the last few minutes when Jim grabbed a guitar again they blew out the ending with some loud, sonic crazyness.

I watched the last two songs from the center balcony and glad I did.  It was a different but also outstanding perspective to watch and listen from there.  I'm going to try to remember to get different vantage points again.  There is a reason Rolling Stone just named the 9:30 Club the best large room venue.

Some funny Jim banter..... some people yelled Happy Birthday.  He said thanks.  He then told the crowed that before the tour started he had his band sign a contract that says if anyone has a birthday during the tour, then the celebration must last a week.  Since this show was within "that window" of time, celebrating was "mandatory" and  they are partying hard.

Quoted for posterity and awesomeness .

I agree about the Hopefully sign would have been really annoying if you were stuck behind it, and trying to bother Jim when he is offstage is really inappropriate.

It's cool though, that it got us a great and rare song selection, though.  I just hope it doesn't start a trend.  Anyone who has seen Springsteen in the last few years can tell you about sign requests going way too far.

One other minor gripe is how people seemed to need to yell stupid shit almost constantly through the Willie cover.  It was almost like it was impossible to achieve a moment where all you heard was Jim.  Luckily Wonderful and Hopefully lulled people into submission.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

Forgot to mention..... there was a taper there.  I'm no expert, but it looked like a pretty good rig, and it was right next to the soundboard.

And Manonthemoon, good meeting you and Mrs. Manonthemoon and hope to see you at MMJ/Wilco/Dylan at MPP.

Well, did y'all f some s up in my absence?!?  How was it?

Amazing, incredible show!

Having already seen Jim's show once (at McKittrick Hotel), I had high expectations, but as usual with Jim/MMJ even those high expectations were completely blown out of the water.

Got to share the rail with my dear Flake, Mr. and Mrs. Manonthemoon, and APR, which made it a great night as well.

The big surprise of the night was the "acoustic" segment of the encores was three songs:  a Willie Nelson cover (anyone know the name?), Wonderful and HOPEFULLY  :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:.

I think Jim was inspired to do Hopefully by someone who was holding up a sign for it for the whole main set.  We were kind of laughing at this person's persistence and dedication (they literally never put the sign down), but I guess it was rewarded.

It was great to see how much the band had gelled and the performances of the ROLSOG songs have continued to expand into epic wonderfulness, particularly the ending of Dear One, and the jams on All is Forgiven and God's Love to Deliver.

I'm also so, so happy with what the encore segment has become as opposed to the first few shows where it was MMJ songs.  It was great to hear the MOF stuff again, particularly His Master's Voice.  What an incredible new reading/interpretation of that song with this band instead of performed solo.  Losin' Yo Head lived up to it's title with a great jam at the end.  In the middle of the song, Jim broke one of his guitar strings (the high E string) but didn't miss a beat and still played a crazy jam.  I also loved the harder, jammed out treatment of Changing World as compared to how it was performed with New Multitudes.

If I had the option to do it all again tonight, I would do so in a heartbeat, and the night after that, and the night after that...

So glad to hear you had an amazing show!  Sounds similar to the show in Louisville.  Sort of leaves you aching for more as the experience is almost otherworldly.  I can't believe I missed this by a day

I'm only scheduled to see this tour once more, at Newport, but I'm wondering how it will translate in an outdoor, daylight setting.

The show was flat out awesome and it got me through a 17 work day today on 4 hours of sleep.  I really loved how they streched the album out to about 1 hour and 15 minutes worth of music and IMO improved on the album version of each song.  The Dear One was just sick in person and the drummer had an awesome solo that was pretty impressive.  Was so glad to get Hopefully, but hoping for a Bermuda Highway Friday in Asheville, love that song.  It was also awesome that there was no real space between the rail and the stage so we were super close to Jim the entire time.  I think there were a ton of ET moments going on throughout the night.

The one thing that did bother me was the tall hipster who was the one shouting through both Cold Specks and JJs sets.  Both aren't the loudest of music so it was pretty distracting to everyone as they were trying to listen to the show.

Other than that it was great seeing everyone again, Jon and Kevin, and meeting you Adam, Jeff and wife IIRC.  Rob, you and your wife were missed, but being abroad is a pretty nice consolation prize.  Now we can't wait for MPP this summer, keeping the fingers crossed that Jacket will get the headlining nod for that show.  Cheers.

Oh and I just wanted to chime in that the Roll Call early entry thing worked great last night, could not have been easier or better.  Now I just hope that the next time MMJ tours solo they follow the same format or plan.  I always tend to gripe when they screw stuff up so wanted to actually mention it when they got something right.

Yes!  That guy was so obnoxious and annoying.  He would shout "Love You!" in the middle of songs during Jim's set, and it even turned in to "Love you, you sexy beast," later in the show.  People can be so utterly oblivious to how their actions might affect others.

MrWhippy. The Willie Nelson cover is Funny. Can`t believe he played it and how lucky you were to be there. There,s a great R&B cover of that song by Joe Hinton on an LP from Rhino Records released in the 60`s. called Soul Shouts. Priceless. When i saw the set list i wondered if he did Willie`s version or Joe Hinton`s. Also very disapointed we saw him the night before. good for you.

Stevie

So it looks like this, tracklist-wise, was the show of the tour so far.

I'm sure it was an amazing time as well.

Out of all the songs that they would realistically play from their catalog, Hopefully is probably my whitest of wales.  Some day... Until then I refuse to listen to any recordings of it :)
