Battle of the Bands? What is this all about?

[yac'd]For the second year, I'm teaming up with another teacher and tackling a few songs for a Battle of the Bands to support our local SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  One of my colleagues lost her son to suicide and heads this event.  This year, Jacob and I are tackling these songs:

Touch Me 2 instrumental intro > Wonderful Man
The Old Apartment (Barenaked Ladies)
Let It Be

I'm nervous as hell but it gets a lot of kids to come when they think they'll see two of their teachers try to play rock star.[/yac'd]

We now return you to the original thread, already in progress...

That's awesome! Please post video of this!!!!

The forcaste says 60 with spotty showers, not the best, but at least it'll be warm.  Getting really psyched for this show, can't believe its only 2 days away.
Alive or Just Breathing

I'm freakin out! Friday needs to hurry up...what if they drop a new song or something crazy! didnt they start playing circuital (song) several months before the album?

e_wind

I think Circuital was like 8 months or so before the album. I bet this show is gonna be basically Jazz fest 2012 set.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

Mahgeetah34

I think they played Wonderful about 13 months prior to the Circuital release.

What are yall thinking is the opener? Surely they won't do Victory Dance so I'm guessing its Wordless.

Fully

I wish they would add Leaving on a Jet Plane to their show. That song was just made for Jim's voice.

MrWhippy

I think Circuital is a pretty likely opener, given they opened the last two shows with it (New Years and Asbury Park).  I'd love to see One Big Holiday as the opener, instead of as the final song.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

subinai

what are the chances of getting a new song? too soon?

Fully

I'm guessing no chance with it being webcast, this is a one off show, and they aren't headlining. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't take a new.

Wonderful was actually around about 3 or 4 years prior to Circuital. Jim played it at St. David's Church at SXSW in 2008 and quite a few other times as well. Said he never could quite find the right album to put it on until it just fit on Circuital...and I'm going with a Circuital or Off the Record opener...if they wanted to mix things up while still hitting the mainstream crowd up I'm leaning towards The Way That He Sings as an opener, might sound crazy but they played it on Letterman in 2010 right before T5 and definitely is the most mainstream of the not-so-mainstream songs...plus it makes for a good opener

Fully

I'd put money on Circuital opening.

-also played at Newport in 2008
-think they'll open with Circuital (and play VD, TWTHS, SFS, TMP2, Golden, WC, Wonderful, Dondante and OBH)
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

In regards to the setlist, especially a festival setlist, a few rarities aren't entirely out of the question

According to my brief research, Beale Street got The Way That He Sings and Phone Went West, Jazz Fest also got The Way That He Sings, Werchter got The Bear and full Run Thru, Hop Farm got Phone and Librarian, Newport got The Way and Bermuda Highway. Maybe if there's a song a song or two we'd all like to hear, a few twitter requests to the band will have them incorporate it into their set considering it may be their only concert until next spring.  :drum:

Maybe I'm getting jaded, but TWTHS isn't a treat in the way that its referred to here. I think it's the 2nd most played song they have, the first being OBH.
