TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2014 (MMJ FORUM MEMBERS COMPENDIUM)

It's that time again. If anyone is waiting on a release, we can keep this list going until the end of the year. There are so many good releases this year. I'm interested in seeing what ends up on this list.

RULES (COPIED FROM LAST YEAR):

Original US Release year 2014 (no rereleases,etc)
Long Play (No EP, compilation,etc)
Your top 5 Albums the top 10 albums in total points will be the TOP 10.
Assign a total of 50 points amongst your 5 albums
A maximum of 15 pts. for any one album and a minimum of 1 pt.

Post your selections and points by themselves. Then paste in the list, adding any albums w/ points that aren't on the list and distributing any new points onto the score of existing entries.



I'll begin. Someone in another thread said they are going to buy the top 3 albums at the end. That sounded fun to me, so the next three records I buy is in your alls hands...

With all of that said, I felt like this year was missing something. Last year phosphorescent and the national were amazing.  For the most part, nothing has been overwhelmingly amazing for me this year. The War on Drugs is a great record, but I always seemed to get bored of it half way through.

I disagree. I thought this year was an incredible year for music. That's why Tweedy didn't make the cut. It was a big debate in my mind. I may change it, actually...

Damn! Most people think I have bizarre taste because I listen to stuff they never heard of, and know I nothing of what is played on the radio these days. Bands like MMJ, WOD, and Spoon are virtually unheard of by almost everyone I know. I have never heard of any of the bands you listed. I feel like the masses. I will check them all out. That is the best part of this wormhole called the Net. Exposure to good stuff you would otherwise have no idea about.

Just checking this Reigning Sound album out after I saw it here and on Paste best of list as well. Loving it so far. Damien Jurado is my favorite album too btw and hasn't been getting a lot of love on any lists i've seen so far.

My vote should not count because I haven't listened to enough stuff to have an informed opinion and it would unfairly skew the rankings, but just based purely on what makes me happy,  I'd give The War on Drugs 40 points and Sturgill Simpson 10 and call it good.  That's how much I freaking love that War On Drugs album!

Upside Down Mountain is definitely my favorite album of the year lyrically. Artifact #1 is too good.
