Is there anything ahead on the horizon?  I thought awhile back someone mentioned they were confirmed for a winter run at the Capitol Theatre but haven't heard much since.

I've speculated there could be a PC run late 2016. Not much I am going on other than they worked with Peter Shapiro for Lock'n, he's a big fan & they may want to have a few dates in advance of OBH.  They did an NYC run last year so maybe they go somewhere else this yr

But, there is a large gap b/t Lock'n and Hulaween and they've shown they like to get a couple of warm up dates before festivals so I expect we could see a handful of dates somewhere in the fall.

Taking those late summer, fall festie dates is interesting b/c that could have been prime Jim solo time.

If there is a fall tour I would imagine they are waiting until after One Big Holiday goes on sale and potentially sells out to announce it.

It would be pretty strange to have both Lockn and Hulaween as one-off festival dates. I imagine we'll get a few shows around Lockn and maybe a nice run around Hulaween.

Won't Jim be touring for his solo album this fall/winter?

maybe...if he is planning on it, it's kinda odd to have a date in late August and another late October with Jacket. But, if he announces a release date this year, then good chance he tours this year.  But, album release date announcement will precede any tour announcement is my assumption.

If I had to guess, a few Jacket dates aside from the festies will go down this fall/winter, then OBH, then Jim solo record in early spring, Jim does the festie circuit/tours after that. But who knows, he could stuck on his solo thing and move to Jacket's next LP depending on where his inspiration lies. But I think there's a reason the Jacket Boys are touring with Ray and not the studio band (Jim's band).

Jim's got plenty of time to do a solo tour this fall/winter, should he want to! As 2013 proved, both Jim and both bands are pretty capable of interchanging dates as they see fit. The boys have two weeks free from Ray in August, and then the Ray tour ends late September. Who knows what the future holds?!

According to this interview with Carl (http://www.musicalfamilytree.com/blog/230093) three more festival dates for MMJ this year. Then the Jim solo tour before heading into the studio early next year.

1) Wonder what the third festival date is? Bridge School makes a lot of sense.
2) Wonder if that's it?! No headline dates, just three fest sets for the rest of the year?

My guess is that One Big Holiday is the 3rd Festival he is referring to

APR

He didn't say anything definite about Jim's album and potential tour.  Good guess about the third festival being OBH.  The good news is going into the studio with MMJ early next year.  Who knows how long it will take to record/engineer, etc.   If they just need to add to what they already recorded and finish stuff up then hopefully 2017 will be big and busy again like 2015 was.

Copied/pasted from the interview:

SJ: Has My Morning Jacket toured a lot this summer? What have you been up to these last few months, while waiting for your solo record to come out?

CB: We did some stuff earlier this year. I'm actually out right now. Jim James produced the new Ray LaMontagne album that came out earlier this year [Ouroboros], so the four of us are out on tour with Ray all summer. That's pretty much a three-month tour. Then, my album comes out, and I'm going to start touring. Meanwhile, My Morning Jacket is doing three more festivals this year. So I'm in three different worlds all the time, which is cool. It's been fun. Playing with Ray is great. He's an incredible singer and is capable of so many different types of music. And, doing the My Morning Jacket stuff is always #1 priority for me. But, to get to go explore without any real consequence is just great for everyone. Jim's putting out another solo record at some point, and then we're going to go into the studio at the beginning of next year and start working on our next record. So there are a lot of balls in the air (laughs). - See more at: http://www.musicalfamilytree.com/blog/230093#sthash.5ysT61Zd.dpuf

I'm hoping Jim goes the route of doing another Monsters of Folk record this fall, the stars seem like they would align seeing as how Jim and Connor are playing shows together. If he did another solo album on top of it, I would be ok with that too.

As far as the next Jacket record, I have a feeling that there will be a lot of new material when they go back to record again and it'll be a different direction than what was first envisioned. Jim said somewhere that a lot of the extra Waterfall material that was recorded they plan on releasing randomly (Magic Bullet, The First Time etc). I wouldn't be surprised if some of it made the new album (Throwback).

I just have a feeling that after they return from doing their side projects they will have a much different energy than they did when recording The Waterfall. Either way 2017 will be a huge year for them. And with The Jacket Boys touring behind Ray as a unit, I think they will only be tighter as a band.
Mona Lisa must'a had the highway blues, you can tell by the way she smiles.

I agree with all that justbcuzido..... energy, tightness, different direction.   I remember reading that interview with Jim when he discussed the new direction and writing a whole new batch of songs.  I'm thinking that because of the new direction, not keeping the previous songs for the next album, time to record, master, etc that the big year could be more like 2018.  With all their other projects it doesn't seem like they're in a rush.  I hope they can make it as awesome as usual in time for a 2017 album and nice, long tour.

No winter run in NYC this year?  That saddens me.

So there are some more hints in this Glide interview with Carl:

"Then in October I'm going to do a tour, a solo tour, with my friend Daniel Martin Moore and we're going to go play about ten shows in the Southeast. Then in November I'm going to go out on tour with another friend and play kind of the Northeast and the Midwest and promote the 4th Of July album. Then in the New Year we'll probably start talking about recording some more music for My Morning Jacket."

So, with all the other chatter and solo shows it looks like it will be December before MMJ has some space to do a few shows.  Another multi-day run at the Capitol in Port Chester would be a dream come true.

November Northeast Carl run sounds great!  Warms ups before OBH would be sweet.  But I bet they'll take some much needed time off.

Confirmed today that Bridge School is the third festival.

Holy moly that just just brightened my day big time.  Your rumblings tend to be quite reliable so I'm optimistic for an exciting announcement!
