All good news about people thinking tapes will surface. I'd be ecstatic just to have the three shows I was at.

I have to say it is really sad if the shows were not recorded.  With all the hype I was looking for torrents the next day.

QuoteI can confirm I was next to a taper for Z. He said he recorded the entire set. Whether or not this taping surfaces, I thank him for his efforts.

I've been praying every night that a taping from Monday will surface.

Ok excellent. So is ISM the only un-taped night, or at least the only one unconfirmed?

I believe this was the first show I heard someone was going to try and tape. weather or not they succeeded i don't know.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

QuoteBand can pay for Mechanical Royalties to record cover songs.

In Canada it cost about $0.09 per song per record and is done through a company called The Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency Ltd

In the states I believe you do the same through Harry Fox or BMI

I think Harry Fox strictly handles mechanical rights. So it's just a matter of whether the band will be able to afford it. Otherwise there is absolutely NO way they would get away with covering a Prince song

how does phish get away with posting and selling shows the day after when there are covers involved?  isn't this the same thing?
they're not really trying to license the song or claim it as their own but rather pay it tribute.

Chode, is prince an asshole about his material being covered or what?

The one thing you will notice about the official Phish recordings is that most of the time when the song reaches 6 or 7 minutes they turn the rest into a Jam. This saves them a ton of money on royalties. But Phish is one of the few bands that gets these recordings up this quick. The Black Crowes take weeks to months.

But is about time MMJ start to offer a similar option for fans.

They were definitely recording it from the soundboard...no reason in this day and age not too.  But I think unless someone had a stealth recorder, we won't get any crowd recordings....
* I know of someone who has a whole stealth system but I won't reveal their hiding spot. They get some serious shit, no joke.  Unfortunate for us, he is not into MMJ...

darkglow

i read an article a couple years ago that said something to the effect of the MMJ production team recording every show for archiving purposes, etc.

here's an article backing that, but i don't think it was the same one i read:

I was talking to a fella in line one of the T5 nites and he said that he got the chance to talk to Ryan Pickett and that Pickett said he has every single MMJ live show soundboard recording on his hard drive since 2002 or something ridiculous like that.

The MMJ Holy Grail.

So who did not allow taping at the T5 shows?  Band or venue?  If a band allows taping they should have sent out a memo requesting no taping at these specific shows.  If it was T5 and these shows are not slated for a release, I will be really pissed.  To have these historic shows lost or unheard by the fans would be tragic.

From what I witnessed it was the venue.

Not sure if you're joking or not.  Ryan Pickett is a great guy, the soundboard god.  I talk to him damn near after every show.  He is quite cool.  When I ran into the band in the hotel lobby the morning after the Portland show, Ryan actually called out to me, remembering my name!  After the Evil Urges show, I asked him if we could expect a tour next year on par with what the Jacket did in support of Evil Urges in 2008 and early 2009.  He said yeah, starting in April or May.  Looks like 2011 is the year of many shows.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Absolutely. Someday I will hear that again. I have to. Oh, and I need the third night too. And the fourth and fifth.

Got an email from NYCTaper that said they did not tape At Dawn because they...

"were informed that MMJ were recording the show for possible official release and were not permitting audio of these shows."

Here's to hoping they're right!!

Now that's good news, though some advance notice would have been nice for the guys lugging equipment to the venue.

I agree Johnny, but then again, I'd also gladly pay a premium for access to these. I'd even sign a waiver agreeing to castration if caught pirating them if only to ensure that I get to have them.

Totally agree with this. Even the castration part. We're all familiar with other acts who do the same sort of thing, so I think it's a distinct possibility.
