I wouldn't really say that they are my friends, i wish they were, like people i can hang out with for more than an hour before shows, but i just miss talking to the guys and seeing them play. Can't wait for the new album and tour!

(Hey Ryan! :))

I'm going to tell the story.  I hope you don't mind...

So, my brother and I had decided to go to Buffalo for the Albright Knox show.  And then I was debating Montreal and saying "No no no, you can't go to anymore shows, stop being so ridiculous."  And then my friend Mark said "Fuck it.  I wanna go."  So Mark decided to rent a car, and that's how we were going to go.  And then two other pals decided they wanted to go, too, and they had a girlfriend who was away so we could stay in her apartment.

And I knew that Ryan had tickets, but didn't have a ride. So I got in touch and told him that he could get a ride with us.

And then, on what might go down as the worst day in the world, all the plans snowballed.  Mark's work found out that he booked off for personal reasons (as opposed to professional reasons like he'd said).  He happened to work with one of the other two that were coming, and same thing thus happened to her with work finding out.  There was a shakedown.  Suddenly, it's about 4pm the day before we've leaving, and nobody can go.

I have this big thing I have to go to in the night, and I only have like two hours to figure everything out and try and find a way that me and Ryan can still go.  It wasn't so much at that point about me going, because I'd already gone so much, but I'd already got Ryan's hopes up and didn't want to drop that kind of news to him THE NIGHT BEFORE.

And yet, that's what happened.

We were up on the phone until like 2 in the morning trying to figure out a way that we could work it out, and it just wasn't working.  It. was. so. bad.

And then I got off the phone with him and a wasp stung me.  In my room.  Actually, Jen's Dad was up yesterday and said our nest is a hornet's nest.  So a hornet stung me.

Anyhow.  That's our story.

The things we do to try and see our favourite band.  :(

Ohhhh that could be an interesting thread - what are other peoples tales of suck and woe in trying to get out to see My Morning Jacket?

So you didn't go? And Ryan didn't go? That sucks. I agree with you you feel even worse for the other person than for yourself. But Ryan did get to see them sometime, didn't he?

No, I did go.  I ended up taking a bus.

I don't think Ryan got to see them this round at all.  :(

I feel awful for both of you.  Especially you, EC, hornets are no joke.  I would call a professional to have the nest removed (just don't ask them what they are going to do to it).
I don't have any horror stories like that.  However, the first MMJ show I went to I was busted trying to get into the Rudyard Kipling with a fake ID.  They just took my ID and told me to beat it, but I was pissed and still am that I had to wait to see my new favorite band.
Another bad night that I always think about was Derby(that mean somtime in May) 2002.  MMJ played headliners with Southern Culture on the Skids.  That was the night that they wore their old school basketball uniforms and Tommy sang a AC/DC song.  However, before the concert, at the last minute my friends and I decided to go to Nasheville to check out a festival down there instead.  Long story short: we didn't have tickets, got to Nasheville to find out the show was sold out, and missed a legendary MMJ show at headliners!
But I've had so good nights on account of these fellas, two bad nights isn't a big deal.

well, everytime they play at Exit/In I can't go because i am not yet 18. It's the worst feeling ever, knowing your favorite  band is playing about 50 minutes away from you, and you are not there.

I had a ticket to see MMJ/Wilco in Louisville, and my dad was like "as far as i am concerned, you just wasted $38." They wouldn't let me drive up there because they say i don't know my way around.  Didn't want to take me because he had to drive to Evansville the next morning. I was so pissed. I finally gave a pretty convincing arguement, and when i woke up in the morning my dad called from work and said he'd take me. It turned out to be one of the best nights of my life, great concert, meet Wilco.  I was the only MMJ fan behind the palace so i got to talk to Tommy, Patrick, Bo, and Jim for awhile, it was unreal, the people who make give me inspiration everyday of my life, standing two feet in front of me.  It just upsets me that Carl wasn't there.  But one day i will meet him and hopefully he will sign my shirt that i took off for them to sign that night.
Hold my life until I'm ready to use it
