Will the song "Oxen" be on Z?  I really want a studio version of that... after Bonnaroo I can't sit still.  I need, I need.

tomEisenbraun

wait, they didn't play Oxen at Bonnaroo... or does it go by a different name or is that your point?

They were playing "oxen" as a new song when they were on their last tour of the US.  I heard it a year ago last MAY, the 17th, in Omaha I believe.  I also have a recording of it from a concert I got from that ftp site that floats around this forum; at the Opera House in Toronto on the 28th of May 2004.  Jim said it was originally called "How Could I Know" so they changed the title to "Oxen" so it wouldn't get confused with "How Do You Know".

It was the first new Jacket song I had heard in a long time last year, and since then has become one of my favorites and I was suprised it wasn't performed at Bonnaroo; anyway, if anyone has any idea of what I am talking about and any inside as to if it appears on the new cd.  That's about it.

They played "How Could I Know", "Oxen" in Knoxville.  I would be suprised if it's not on the upcoming album.  Great Song.....I Like "It Beats For You" but I wouldn't be devistated if they left it off the new album.

No idea if it's on it, but I wonder if they're trying out more of the new songs of late so that they get good practise with them.  :)

I screwed up, they actually played, "How Do You Know" in Knoxville.  My Bad.

yeah, i hope the don't waste any space on the new album for that song. need more balls out ROCK!! i also hope jim yells as much as he did on the record as he did in Athens 40 Watt club.

tomEisenbraun

i asked two tone about it. he said they recorded both of those while they were at that awesome studio, but he isnt allowed to reveal anything about the tracklist.... so yes

hopefully oxen will be on there, but i think it beats 4 U would be a very skippable track, just because it gets very repetetive and long on the tooth

No It Beats For You fans huh? I dig it. very ethereal...i'm sure it would sound different as a studio recording though.

tomEisenbraun

yeah true, it might do better as a studio track. But i just remember not really caring for it a ton, it gets kind of long

I almost prefer the acoustic version of 'It Beats 4 U' which is featured on the Jim James, Bright Eyes, M. Ward concert.  I'm sure that Jim will be able to make t sound great in the studio.

I also prefer the acoustic version much more.

It Beats 4 U  doesn't last anywhere near long enough for me. I think it was the shortest number they played at Bonneroo 04.

It's sophistication is light years ahead of most recently composed rock music.

There's another thread with the tracklist for Z.........Oxen isn't on it.

However, we do know that Jim was trying to find a new name for it, so maybe it is on the tracklist and we just don't recognize the new name.

I thought about that, but the billboard article doesn't really describe a song like Oxen.

im not certain about it, but i think that thye song "knot comes loose" on z is actually the new version of "oxen". the way they played it at the cats cradle it was just slide guitar, keyboard and vocals. that fits the description billboard gives for that song. i could be wrong. i think i kind of like the version with drums better, though. oh and im pretty sure that the untilted new song from the recent chicago show is the song called "into the woods". the lyrics mention "over the river and into the woods".

sweatboard

That makes a lot of sense.  I was really actually hopeing that acoustic song from chicago would make the album.  Holy Crap....I hadn't listened to the version of Oxen from the Cats Cradle show yet, it is much different.  Much more keyboard, Go Bo.

is that the babies in blenders song?

I'm downloading the Cat's Cradle show right now, will i have any problem with the flac conversion, since its a 24 instead 16 whatever?

Yes the Babies in Blender song.  You shouldn't have trouble playing 24 on your computer but you can't burn it to disc I think.  There is a 16 bit source out there though.
