Funny interview, especially after watching the Dylan thing last night - reminds me of "Mr.Jones"

This is my favorite part:

Velocity: This record doesn't sound much like the other three records, insomuch that it doesn't sound like a Southern rock record.

Jim: I don't think any of the records feel like Southern rock.

something's happening and you don't know what it is...

oh, and CC Baxter gets photo credits ;D

thanks for posting.  I love the photos.  I think that's Dennis Sheridan (of Follow That Train) as one of the clowns sitting in for Bo and Carl.

Also, Jim says 'What a Wonderful Man' is about a friend who committed suicide.  One could only assume that he's talking about Aaron Todovich (of a Month of Sundays).  Very interesting.

Chills

Have you guys ever played "Freebird" live?

Patrick: No way.

 :)

Man, reminds of the Dylan intervievs too.

"Can you suck your glasses please?"  ;D
"I've never heard you sing"
"Do you really believe in what you sing?"

And, oh yeah, no more Phone Went West, too bad.

"How can I answer that if you have the nerve to ask me?  Do you ask the Beatles that question?"  - Bob Dylan

I know what you mean Chills, this interviewer seems lost.  It's no wonder that Dylan was such an asshole to the press when they ask stupid questions like these to sell their dirty rags!  Who needs em?

"I don't need Time Magazine.  I've never been in Time Magazine yet this Hall's filled twice."  - Bob Dylan in an interview with Time Magazine

(Getting down from my soapbox now...)

Tommy: There's also some stuff that if we die in a fiery plane crash will be released on a box set.

Haha.  :D

you are correct about Aaron. that was fucked. but why even do a cover photo shoot without the whole band participating. thats why Velocity is fucking wack. the idiot who did the lackluster interview obviously knew nothing of the band, only shit he has read off the web.

Phone Went West has never been my favorite, I'm glad it's going into retirement.

I can see how the first part might get old to play, but the 2nd half of that song is tremendous live. Probably one of my favorite parts of the LiveBonnaroo set from last year.

Maybe they can just play the ending of that song for me. :)

realdeal

they do need to do away with that old ballad....when performed live the extend the ending way way way to long. im actually agreeing with amilliondreams!

dragonboy

I love Tommy's comment about the plane crash!
LOL  ;D

That picture is pretty fucking funny too!

God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

I'll bet doctorinthehouse is gonna be upset if they drop Phone Went West from their sets.  I'm surprised Patrick didn't clock the guy for bringing up that "Southern Rock" feel bullshit.  Ya gotta wonder sometimes if these interviewers even listen to a note of the music before asking their questions.  God I need a live fix!

Quote Ya gotta wonder sometimes if these interviewers even listen to a note of the music before asking their questions.

Isn't that strange?  After reading article after article on Z, almost every magazine has the same exact comparisons.  "Southern Fried" and "Southern Psychodelia" seem to be popular.  I guess magazines just really like labels. [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]

peanut butter puddin surprise

I've never really understood the "southern rock" label attached to MMJ's music.  They aren't Skynrd.  They aren't Molly Hatch, the Outlaws, .38 Special, or any other "southern rock" sounding band.

By that definition, then any guitar rock band is southern rock.  Add a new vocalist to Triumph, and it's southern rock.

K-Tel had a fabulous compilation back in the day...

Does anyone really think MMJ belongs on this record?  Didn't think so...
