One Big Holiday Lyric Question

So this has always irked me, but it never made sense to me the line "so we listened and up the river/and recorded all the sounds"

just never sat well, maybe it's the double "and" but then I was listening to the new years show (and when I was there, I thought I heard it, so my interest was piked)

Jim sang, "and discovered all the sounds" -  which makes more sense for some reason, with the double ands...

so does anyone know of this being something Jim regularly does (it's not on Okonokos) or any other thoughts?

I believe he actually said "distorted all the sounds" at the NYE show.  I've never heard him change that lyric before.  THat night he did change some others as well.  Maybe he has been listening to Dylan alot lately?
