carl is wearing rad socks!

this is one photogenic group, i tell you.

and that backdrop is lovely!

Why hasn't the band made any announcements on this site? The record wasn't even announced here...

Are we going to get any info on a single? It's around two months before release and we're yet to find anything out of this nature.

At least give us a single!

The DARK

I have a hunch that we'll all get it at the same time when the layouts are changed.

The press photos of the band are beautiful. The design released on April Fool's is, well, appropriately and embarrassingly awful.
--- and that's 2 real 4 u.

First order of business:

Tommy's suspenders and pioneer button shirt.

Second:

Jim's beauty of a belt-buckle.

Discuss.
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

FetusTree

The fucking album cover is fucking terrible. It's awful. Even if they have a song on the fucking thing about a fat guy standing in front of them all in a bonus track it's not gonna make it good.

Angry Ewok

Yeah, I forgot to mention that belt buckle. It's a beauty.

The DARK

I don't mind this cover. It's grown on me, but it definitely feels like the weakest of their album covers.

Andrushka

I really can't get into the cover at all either. It seems kind of soul-less since it's so clearly photoshopped.  With a name like "Evil Urges" they could have come up with something better than this...

Either way, I think the music will be great, and that's why I listen to MMJ.

-----------

Side thought: I was just listening to Houses of the Holy. I think that the various influences Zeppelin mixed in on this album (reggae in D'yer Maker, funk in The Crunge) parallels the juncture that MMJ is at with Evil Urges (the funk of Highly Suspicious or the soul influences of Sec Walkin,' for example). Just an idea.

cmccubbin@work

this should solidify the cover art authenticity:

see at the very bottom for a sneak peek at "evil urges" and it has the cover art.
If you're lucky, MMJ will fill the void you didn't even know you ever had. If you're luckier, you'll get to see them live.

Angry Ewok

Now that it's been confirmed as legit by a number of sources:

Has this album art grown on anyone, yet?

Really, I mean. Not just being polite.

BH

My only comment would be that just becuase it has been confirmed by a number of sources doesn't really mean anything.  All of those "sources" just got it thru the girlieman press page like the rest of us.  Until I see it in my hand, I won't believe.

Having said that, although I am not in love with the art, is has grown on me a bit.  And I know theatre's and ferris wheels are two of Jim's favorite things so it's a perfect fit.

The good thing is, how can I possibly be angry or depressed when I have a copy of Evil Urges in my hand!

QuoteDoes anybody recognize that theatre?

Is that the Ferris Wheel from the St. Louis World's Fair?

Ride was two revolutions, ~20 minutes each (some references say 4 revolutions, about 1 hour)
Marriages, banquets, some daredevils rode on top
4,200 tons of steel were transported by 175 freight cars
Stood 264' high, wheel was 250' diameter, 825' circumference, 30 feet wide
Axle was 45 feet long, 32" in diameter, weighed 70 tons - largest single piece of forged iron in 1904
Towers were 140' tall, 40' by 50' at their bases.
Each of the 36 passenger cars was 26' by 13' by 9' high, held 60 people (with a guard)
Total capacity of 2,160
Dynamited on May 11, 1906, and sold for scrap for $1,800
Fate of 70-ton axle remains a mystery (no record of its movement or destruction

I think the theatre is The Palace in Louisville

I don't think it's The Palace...the architecture on the cover is more baroque and The Palace is more eclectic

If you look closer...The Palace is covered in crazy patterns & colors, but the coverart is all gold leaf.

Anyway...I think the cover is sweet...it makes you think and wonder what the hell you're looking at...all of these layered references

Andrushka

I still think the cover is pretty damn ugly looking, but it will by no means affect my enjoyment of the album.

In other news, I had a dream in which some random person sent me a copy of Evil Urges in the mail. Too bad it was just a dream...

ManNamedTruth

i would like it more if the figure wasn't blocking the whole thing. maybe that part of it is a joke, and the rest of the cover will be revealed. BTW i think Z is their best cover art.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Love the font, hate that it is on the front cover. If this pic on Amazon is legit... >:(

They are sooo fucking with us.
