QuoteI'll ask again.  Is that Jim with reverb in his falsetto backing on Brakeman or a female vocalist?  I'm assuming the former.

It's Jim.  I think.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE IT BAD?
THOUGHT I COULD DO WITHOUT MOF.  BUT I'VE BEEN PLAYING 'DEAR GOD' NONSTOP FOR THE LAST 14 HOURS!!!!!!   OH, GOD.

WON'T JJ GOING BACK TO MMJ SEEM LIKE BACK TRACKING ?

Quoteyeah its about what I expected...a side project..nothing special.

Your already judging one day after three songs from the album are released? :-/

I was going to wait but I didn't last long.   ;DI couldn't help it.

I love how they each sound like a particular member's songs yet all three of them work together to take the song to the next level.   Sandman, Brakeman and Me is fucking dreamy!  And Dear God?  HOly crap is that song gonna grow like a beast!  That's the MONSTER!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I'm judging on the 3 songs that I heard that have been released.  I think they are ok.  the Sandman sounds like a M ward B-side or just an ok song from one of his albums.  None of these songs excite me very much but like I said its a side project and I don't have high expectations.

I have heard plenty of songs and/or albums and immediately thought "meh"...sometimes you just got to take it slow and let it work its way in. Listen for awhile...then put it away for awhile. Bring it back out later and see what happens.
I personally like everything I've heard so far. In my experience tho I've had plenty of knee jerk reactions to songs or albums that I later find myself not being able to live without. Take your time with it is what I say.
Because we're all in this together...

I get what you are saying...but I don't see it as something I need to love.  I love MMJ and I love M ward...i'm not a Conor fan at all so that automatically turns me off a little when he starts singing.  I just think its ok not to love these songs, thats all...I'm not going to force myself into loving them..i've listening to each now a bunch of times and like I said from the beginning I think they are just ok....I'll go see the show and i'm sure it will be a good time.

I wish every band coming through T.O. got booked to play Massey Hall.

I thought "Say Please" was okay when I first heard it, and it's growing on me a little.  But "Dear God"?  It's...I...wow.  I get what they're trying to do here, but they're way off the mark.

I'll be skipping the tour this go around.
God sure baked a lot of fruitcake, baby.

Truth.

I'm open to letting these songs grow on me, but I'm not impressed just yet.  I'm also skipping the tour...too rich for my blood.
if it falls apart or makes us millionaires

kydiddle

The songs are good enough to make me want to buy the album, but I'm not falling over myself.

As for the tour I can't miss it. Especially if Yim breaks out a song or two from "Tribute To". Or a solo "Where to Begin". Those four minutes would be worth the price of admission. He could stand on stage for ten minutes and play the freaking spoons against his thigh for all I care.

Can I get an Amen?

Yep. I CANNOT get into Conor. He's like a giant dark cloud and might be the reason why I only "like" these songs. (That's so terrible.) I even saw him before Wilco a few weeks ago and I thought my excitement for Jeff and the boys would trick my mind into liking Conor.

Nope. I just can't do it.

Of course it does.  I just said I liked the songs.  Sue me.    It just seems like some people were going to make up their minds before this even came out based on their dislike of Conor.  Which is crazy.  Brakeman.... is really just a great M. song and if you don't like Dear God, you aren't going to like much of what Jim is going to come up with in the near future, I can tell you that.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

i love all the guys in MOF....doesnt matter who is singing what....just havent won me over yet...will i get the cd? hell yes...

if ands and buts were candy and nuts we would all have a merry christmas...

OK, I apologize for being overly defensive.  I'm really drunk right now.  You all pretty much know that anything Jacket related can do no wrong in my world, so my opinion has become worthless.   But M and Jim are my two favorite musicians in the world, and really, they CAN'T do any wrong.  And whether you like Conor or not, you have to admit he's a great song writer, and if you don't, your lying to yourself.   Shit, I'm getting overly defensive again.

I'm liking Dear God so far, but I hope Jim saves this style for the side projects. MMJ should be more about the rock.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

I agree 100%.  I love the diversity but I'd love to get a big rock record next.  I don't see them doing another Evil Urges or anything that sounds like Dear God..it would seem like a little overkill.
