Is it sad that I can't stop listening to this 10 second blurb of a song???

For this month's cover story, Grammy award-winning artist Norah Jones sat down with friends and musicians Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), Jim James (My Morning Jacket), M.Ward and Mike Mogis to talk about their collaboration as the Monsters of Folk. The band, whose new self-titled album has been a long time in the making since first touring together in 2004, talked about how they met, the inspiration behind making the album and how they managed to finally settle down and record together amidst their busy schedules. Here's a snippet:

Norah Jones: Did you guys all bring songs in? Did you write them all together from start to finish? Is every song different?

Jim James : For the first session, we didn't have any demos or anything beforehand. It was just kind of a big mystery. One person would play a song and then we'd all sit around and talk about it and then jump on different instruments. It's been fun because it felt like we were back in high school starting our first band and learning how to play music again. To me, that was really fun--being able to go back on the drum kit and feel like I was 12 years old. It's that Zen beginner's mind that I think is important to keep coming back in your life. We typecast ourselves in the same role that we think we have to play over and over again. It's nice to remind yourself that you can be a different person whenever you want.

I think Relix gets great interviews, and their quality has really gone up since they accepted Jerry is no longer with us.

I will definitely pick this one up.

This album and tour is my musical wet dream. I get excited just seeing pictures of them together.

Also...if I may...Conor Oberst gets nowhere near the respect that he deserves around here. Yeah I said it.

Whatever I have of Conor I've been listening to a lot lately. It's just bootlegs (MOF 2004) and stuff on compilations that I have floating around.
I really like Lua, At The Bottom Of Everything and Laura Laurent. What should I buy????

Without a doubt, get "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning" (Bright Eyes).

That's what Lua and ATBOE are on.

But I would highly recommend one song in addition:  Let's Not Shit Ourselves (To Love and Be Loved).  This is the 10-minute closer of the album prior, and it's my favorite song of his.
Keep on dreamin' boy,
cuz when you stop dreamin'
it's time to die.
