"We live in one of the fattest states and about the least-educated. But boy, do we have style.

In fact, Kentucky is the most stylish state in the union.
That might come as a surprise to most, including those of us in the Bluegrass State. But according to the stylish editors of Esquire magazine, Kentucky is the nation's hottest hotbed of fashionable faces.

In the March issue of Esquire, now on newsstands, editors "studied" men's style in all 50 states for a year.
Which state gave us loafers? Missouri. Which claims originating cowboy boots? Texas. What about parkas? Alaska -- that's The Last Frontier's only claim to fashionable fame.

But from sea to shining sea, editors crowned Kentucky because we gave birth to the most style icons of any state: actor George Clooney, the Louisville rock band My Morning Jacket, the Kentucky Derby, boxing legend Muhammad Ali, actor/pirate Johnny Depp, writer Hunter S. Thompson, ex-NBA star Allan Houston, game-show host Chuck Woolery and Colonel Harland Sanders.

"The Bluegrass State has cranked out nine major style icons with a modest population of 4 million people," Esquire chirped. "Beat that, New York!"

And in case you're wondering, we did the math -- that's one icon per 444,444.44 Kentuckians."
