Finally back and fully recovered from 6+ hours with My Morning Jacket.

The instore performance was really nice. Maybe 50 people there. Twist and Shout is one bad-ass record shop. Thanks to the peeps responsible for getting Jim to play.

Here is the setlist from the instore:

1. Time of the Season [Zombies cover??]
2. Bermuda Highway
3. Hopefully
4. Dancefloors
5. "Any of guys fans of Mr. Show?"
6. Golden
7. Strangulation [by request]
8. Old September Blues

After a quick thank you to Jim (and handing over my recording of the Fox show from May), I was off to the Bluebird.

All I have to say is...Holy Fucking Shit! WAY better than the Fox show (and I thought that show was amazing). They just flat out blew me away. I have a feeling that we are all really lucky to see these guys now.

I was very impressed with the number of tapers at this show. In may I was the only taper at the Fox. At the Bluebird there were FOUR different rigs. Mine was by far the worst (Oktava MC012 > UA5 > MiniDisc). If these recordings get out I'm sure you will be blown away. The other tapers mics were all in the $2000+ neighborhood (give or take a few hunderd, maybe thousand). I'm really psyched that the taping community is latching onto these guys because I don't think a single show should go un-taped.

Hopefully with time the un-ejamacated fans will learn what mic stands are and avoid acting like drunk idiots near them. There were a few of them.

Here's the setlist from the Bluebird:

DISC 1 [main set]:

1. Mahgeetah
2. Dance Floors
3. Masterplan
4. Heart Breakin' Man
5. The Way That He Sings
6. Just One Thing
7. Lowdown
8. One Big Holiday >
9. I Will Sing You Songs
10. Steam Engine
11. Run Thru

DISC 2 [encore]:

1. I Will Be There When You Die*
2. Bermuda Highway*
3. Golden*
4. Sooner
5. Evelyn Is Not Real
6. War Begun
7. Phone Went West

* Jim James solo acoustic.

I can't wait until next time!

PS. I will be posting the entire show and instore performance on my website in a few days. PLEASE no B+P's or Trades at this time. I am way too busy with work and other shows. You can visit my site at:

Quick story about the MMJ Denver show(s).

Me, my girlfriend and some of my friends were at both the instore and the Bluebird show.

At the instore at Twist n Shout, we sat right up front. It was my friend Eric that requested "Old September Blues." Before he was onstage, I mentioned to my friends that they ought to see Lost In Translation and Jim said that he loved that movie.

After his set, while people were going for autographs, I said to him "You know, Jim, my favorite song of yours is "I Will Be There When You Die." I've seen you twice now(I was at the show in Boulder) and I've never heard you play it. He says "Are you coming tonight." I say "Sure, I'm coming tonight" and he says "I'll see what I can do for you." And, as you can see from Mike's playlist, he played it. It was absolutely amazing.

About 15-20 min. after the show, some of the band came out into the lobby of the theater. Jim saw and recognized me and my friends. I said "Thanks for playing the song" to which he responded "I told you I would." Then, we stood around talking with him for about 20 minutes.

It was absolutely amazing.

....and that's not mentioning the show.

attackemu,

Good to hear you had a good time. I wish I had time to stick around to chat with the guys. Jim seemed so nice the few moments I got to talk to him. I just gave him the CD's from the last Boulder show and had to head over to the Bluebird to set up my gear there.

ANYWAY...the instore AND Bluebird set are both up on http://www.indierocklive.com AND as an added bonus (per request at the instore), the Fox Theater show from May is up there as well. Even a few pictures.

Enjoy, and thank you so much to the band for allowing us to tape. I had a blast at the show and it's so great that I can relive it whenever I want.

My first Jacket show and it was excellent.  I too checked out the Twist and Shout appearance.  If I had just happened to be browsing at the store that night, I probably would have ended up at the Bluebird.  Jim's voice is quite powerful.

Big thanks to Mike B for taping both sets and for converting and making them available so quickly.  He's right, there were quite a few tapers at the Bluebird with high quality gear.  Hopefully, I'll have the front of board Schoeps source soon, and will offer it up here.  But Mike's copy sounds fantastic (even as MP3s), so check em out if you haven't...

Mike, we talked briefly after the show.  I mentioned that the vocals weren't as crisp as I hoped.  I was up front opposite Jim for most of the show.  From the sound of your discs, thankfully, the vocals were much clearer at the sweet spot/soundboard area.

Once again, great shows and thanks to the band for allowing taping.

Are you going to put either of these back up? I grabbed one but still need the instore

Mike B

They are still up there. Under My Morning Jacket  ;)

They probably will be up there until early November when they hopefully will be replaced with a new Spiritualized show. Calexico might be on the way too.
