Just getting ready to go!

I just hope the sound balance is better than the Mean Fiddler gig in November. I took a friend who wasn't impressed, calling it a wall of noise which, to be honest, it probably was.

Taking the other half tonight so need everything to go right in order to prove my claim that MMJ are the greatest band in the world!

'SO... NOW ARE YOU READY TO GO? MY LADY!'

Went to the NME awards show last night.  The boys sounded pretty good.  Carl and Bo seem to have stepped in and fallen right into stride.  Carl contributed some nice licks and put a new twist on a few of the songs.  Bo played the keys nicely.  Both were a bit reserved when given a chance to spread their wings and improvise a little, but they were playing to a packed Astoria crowd in a new band -- hopefully they loosen up and stretch out as they settle into their new roles.  No solo Jim songs was kind of disappointing... I could've done without Ima Robot's lengthy tiring set if MMJ could've played longer.  Not that I didn't enjoy Ima Robot's spastic performance... it did make me laugh out loud a few times and that's always good.  Junior Senior gave a nice performance and lived up to their reputation as the B52's reincarnatation.  Bottome line, the new MMJ lineup is solid.  Boys, if you're listening... how about letting Carl sing a couple of his songs????

I was at the Astoria last night too. A kickin' show - fab to see so many people having a great time:)
Highlight for me: Phone Went West - outstanding!

As an 'older'(purely in terms of earth years) member of this forum I feel it is only fair to point out to some of you youngsters how fortunate we are to have this band, all to selves, as it were.  They will always be 'our secret'- doesn't matter how big they become.
And one more thing,  there is a point in the live show where they play 'Phone Went West' which just hits you in places reserved for very, very private thoughts and feelings.  You can't get that anywhere else, or at least I haven't.  Their set at the Astoria was class.  Absolute magic. Being there is an experince.  Something really special.  And it's all personal - only we know about it!These are good days, enjoy ;D

The guys were awesome. The sound balance better than the Mean Fiddler gig, although the chattering class free loaders, there courtesy of the sponsors, didn't help with their never ending natterings!

Never mind Phone Went West, although superb, surely Steam Engine was the highlight? It moved me more than anything I've heard in a long, long time.

The Astoria looks like it held 245,091 on the night, but it was possibly 2500-3000 in reality.  Looked like it was sold out to me, or very nearly.

I was there...it was a full house.  Disappointed there was no accoustic set, they were only on for over an hour but it was still v good.  However, I dont think anything can top their gig at Manchester on 22 November. Truly the best gig of my life.
