Just got in from the toronto show. My first MMJ experience, and I must say it was a memorable one. Great performances by M. Ward and MMJ, along with a solid preformance from Happy Chichester, who opened the night with a solo acoustic set. I can't wait to see MMJ again! Here's the set list:

One Big Holiday
Dancefloors
How Do You Know
Death Is The Easy Way *
Oxen (a.k.a How Do I Know)
I Will Sing You Songs
The Way That He Sings
Lowdown
Strangulation
Masterplan
The Bear
Steam Engine
Run Thru
End Of Cobra
------------
Golden *
O Is The One That Is Real
Mahgeetah

* With M. Ward

I caught a glimpse of the band's set list, and "One In The Same" was slated as the first song of the encore, unfortuantly they didn't end up playing it. But no complaints here as we did get "The Bear".

P.S. Anybody at the show know if there were any tapers? I'd love to hear this show again

Definately a great show. I was front and centre for the first two songs. Then my friend randomly passed out, and we had to go to the very back where he sat on the floor for the rest of the show. Kind of ruined my night, but still a great performance. The guys had lots of energy.

Hope they come back soon so I can actually see the concert. I've missed two in a row now!

A Hollingsworth

Excellent show - far more polished than the Lee's Palace gig last year.  Jim's voice was in perfect form.  Kinda neat seeing the headliner backing up the opening act.

Great show! My first MMJ experience, and it blew away my expectations. I was standing right behind the guy who passed out so I had a pretty good view of the show.

So yeah, any word on tapers?
I saw a MuchMusic camera there, so be on the lookout for a My Morning Jacket segment probably on The New Music or something.

Loved the parrot.

porkchops

you guys sound very familiar! if you guys were near the guy who passed out then you probably have noticed ape man too (big guy who wouldn't stop yacking during the first set not to mention he plowed through the crowd to come and block everyone). i was going to tell him to cram it but i got afraid he would pound me too death and i would miss the rest of the show.

about the show, most spectacular performance if i have ever seen one. the parot was kick A$$ but the pumpikin wearing jim james's already hilarious hat was gold!

somewhere on this message board, someone complained about the length of the jam sessions. are you insane? why in the hell would anybody say that, that's the best part of the show.

hehe jim james....

We also got a longer set list than most of the other shows from this tour. At most shows the band plays 14 or 15 songs, but we got 17. The Bear was a huge surprise, as was O Is The One That Is Real in the encore. One of the highlights for me was during M. Ward's set when Jim joined his for a beautiful version of "Outta My Head". Sooooo good!

Wow - a great show for sure!  I came a fan of M Ward and left a huge fan of MMJ, too.

My MMJ favs of the night were Cobra, One Big Holiday, and Golden.

From M Ward, I absolutely loved Vincent O'Brien with the band as well as 'Outta My Head' -- good call kid smoke!

I'd LOVE a copy of this show if it was taped.

I was standing right in front of the big wookie that wouldn't shut up. I could hear his yammering throughout the entire show and it was extremely annoying. >:(

My Morning Jacket has fantastic jam portions in their songs which I enjoyed a lot. Luckily they managed to avoid the horrible 'jamband' label, which describes the audience more than it does the band.

This was my third time seeing MMJ and it was definately the best!  I would even go so far to put this concert up there in like the top five i have ever been to. From the moment they walked on stage top their final bows the band was on fire.
It was the first time seeing the band with Carl and Bo and i gotta say they fit in really well and acutually add a tremendous amount to the sound. I think their addition to the line-up will bring some very good things down the line.  I have to say that Bo in particular really added and his keyboards came across a lot stonger than Danny's did when i saw them before.  He really brought a new dimension to the sound.  And carl's work on steel was another great addition.  Really nicely done.
Gotta say highlights for me were Strangulation, Run Thru, and the ferocious version of One Big Hoilday to open the show.  And I have to say that I can finally really appreciate Steam Engine for the Epic it is.  The new song Oxen was also very cool, with a nice country vibe to it.
M. Ward said the guys had just had a day off so they were well rested and to expect something cool and he was right. Jim was going insane on nearly every song, and the whole band put so much energy into their performances, it was truly mind blowing.  The show was truly an experience that made you feel like you just witnessed something special.
M. Ward was excellent as well, and it was very cool seeing the boys back him up.  His harmonica on MMJs Golden wasn't to great though but hearing the song with Carl's steel made up for it.
Now if only i could pick up and follow MMJ to every show.

The Opera House
by Christine Estima

As opening act M Ward took the stage, I perused the Opera House crowd from the balcony. Indie folk rockers will usually attract throngs of gushy Punky-Brewsters or posh Debbie-Harry's to swoon at the foot of the stage, but there were barely any women in the house — it was a virtual sausage party. And upon listening M Ward and headliners My Morning Jackets' introspective and thoughtful tunes, I was still at a loss to explain the absence of females.

Judging from their fashion sense, I assume My Morning Jacket must have an incredible sense of humour. Frontman Jim James spent the entire night with a plastic parrot on his shoulder. As if that wasn't enough to make you laugh at their bravado, during their most intimate songs, the entire band were — get this — headbanging. So into their heavy, multi-layered vibe the boys were carrying on like it was GN'R show when their down-tempo, mellow 'n' lounging music, which covered such themes as the beauty of life, the destructive forces of love, and the magic realism of routine.

Don't get me wrong, when I closed my eyes, I was thoroughly enjoying their set. At one point, I nearly forgot I was supposed to review the show because I got caught up in James' Jerry-Garcia/Tom Waits-like voice. The highlight of the night was the facetious "How Could I Know?" a song which eerily resembles their previous "How Do You Know?" James' acknowledged this "coincidence" and promptly announced that he was renaming the song "Oxen" just to minimize the confusion. My Morning Jacket were mesmerizing to listen to, but with their now infamous hair-in-their-faces stage show, they were distracting to behold.

I was at the show front and center. I brought my new wife who got so stoned off one haul of some dude's joint she couldn't stand up straight but I made her hang out till they played "lowdown". Next time I'm going by myself. What I saw was awesome. Those green t-shirts are pretty fly too.

swooworthy

the show was amazing. the sound was gorgeous. i was up front and centre as well and my pal and i had to keep 'strangulation', 'run thru' and 'lowdown' alone were worth it.

droseritfw

man, there were a lot of joints near the front of the stage. I think we all needed a smoke after one big holiday, cause it rocked
