;)  This band is a breath of fresh air.  I was blown away by the whole show (Charlottesville) that I rounded up some friends for the Richmond show last night.  Dr. Dog and My Morning Jacket together make for a great night of music leaving no one disappointed.( except for the late comers who had to hear second hand about what they missed).

Catch this band if you can !

P.S,- on top of being a great band to see they were very nice guys. And handsome too.  I'll stop now.

see you in D.C. I hope.  xoxo

Well, as I said elsewhere the MP3s on their website are very promising. They do sound very lo-fi, though, so I bet the live show is very different. Too bad they're not coming to Europe.

Agreed, Dr. Dog were quite a pleasant suprise.  I'm used to having to endure an opening band before seeing the "main attraction".  Not so w/ Dr. Dog.  It should be really interesting to see DD, Citizen Cope, and MMJ @ the 9:30 in 6 days.

And re: their .mp3s/album (yes, had to buy it after seeing them in Charlottesville) they do indeed have a lo-fi sound.  I hate to compare/contrast an artist, but the stuff on the album is somewhat beatle-esque.  It provided great road music for the trek from Charlottesville to Richmond.

Well, if their recorded stuff is Beatlesque (I kind of agree with that, by the way), how is their live stuff?

Live they were...  hmm...  Not Beatle-esque for sure.  I wanna say maybe Tom Petty-esque, but that might be because of of the guys in the band reminds me of ole' Tom.  I got alot of different vibes from them live.  The only song I can think of now is Swamp Livin' (I think that's the name) which gave me a Sublime kind of vibe.  Let me think on it and compare notes w/ my GF and I'll put something up later.  I'll also hopefully get to see them again Saturday (weather permitting) so I'll have a fresher perspective after that day.

Thanks for posting the website link.  I ended up not being able to make the show at 9:30.  The mp3s remind me more of early Sebadoh/Lou Barlow but that would incorporate a bit of the Beatles too.  hmmm, would've been interesting to see them live....missed it all, I suppose.

booboonuts

No problem for the link.

I'm not familiar w/ early Sebadoh/Lou Barlow, only his work w/ Folk Implosion.  The parallel to The Beatles is deserved though.  Though live, Dr. Dog sound nothing like what's in their album/.mp3s.  And yes, you did miss it, this is the last show for Dr. Dog w/ their current line-up.  They're Philly-based though so chances are there'll be more chances to see them, just not with MMJ.

For now.

The MMJ guys love them. They brought them on this tour because Dr. Dog sent them a demo and they loved it.

Neat story.

They sound a whole lot better live.  They really did kick ass at the charlottesville show.  By the way, does anyone have any pictures from that show?  There was that girl who kept climbing on stage and pushing people (me included) out of the way to get pictures, and she was a pro photographer.. so i want to see those pictures.  I dont want to get pushed for nothin' :)

I am a former member of Dr. Dog -- the one who sang "Swamp Living." Just wanted to say thank for writing nice things about us, and biggest thanks to MMJ for letting us tour with them. It was absolutely the best time I've ever had; they are fantastic people who were totally suppotive, positive and fun. I'll cherish my memories of that tour for the rest of my life.
Though I'm no longer with the band (I'm now full-time with Doublehorse!, another rocking teen combo), I plan to make special guest appearances at future gigs. I'll always be a Dr. Dog in my heart.
