hey guys, i posted a while back.  i was debating whether or not to take a long drive to get to the show, but it was well worth it.

my first time seeing my morning jacket, and it was amazing.  i don't really like wilco as much, but they put on a great show.  the crowd was fine aside from your normal drunks and what have you.

glad i got to hear At Dawn and O. looking forward to seeing them again as soon as i can, hopefully they tour this fall.

yeti, I am addressing ALL the people whining and complaining about yuppie WILCO fans. Spread some love and positivism man: everyone is different and everyone F's up at some point. Just to think you guys let someone else's actions affect your time at the show is puzzling to me. You have absolutely no say when it comes to why another human being wants to go to a show. When did rock and roll get so judgemental and nasty? I guess I am getting old... :-/

bold99

this is so weird, i heard complaints about so many bands's fans but never wilco in my life and i've been a fan since uncle tupelo, i like how they draw a good mix....i guess every show is different though.

I can't tell if you're judging me by calling me judgemental, but if so that might be be a tad hypocritical

Well, I didn't realize that by echoing the "yuppie" sentiment I'd help the bashing begin.
I guess I thought my 1st post here might provoke a "welcome"....oh well.

"Yuppie" from my perspective is not necessarily a look, age, haircut, dress or whatever. It's kinda hard to pinpoint. Hell, lot's of y'all would probably think I fit that bill. (and I brew starbucks or similar quality coffee at home most mornings so shoot me too)

I guess that my comment was more directed at how I feel when people just lollygag into a show and give no props to an opening act that clearly is a cut above. This has happened numerous times over the years at shows I've attended. I'm the first to pronounce myself guilty of being a little judgemental when I find myself "ahead of the curve" in these situations.
Examples that come to mind; Metallica opening for Ozzy in 1986, X opening for Warren Zevon in 91 or so, The Buzzcocks opening for Pearl Jam in 2003 and so on and so on...

But in the end, I'm glad (and maybe a little selfish) that more people don't get it so soon. I don't feel that "I'm special" because I already know, I really just feel that I'm LUCKY and blessed to know...
That said, bash on my friends.   ;D

I can be judgemental
I can be a hypocrite

Misunderstood (32 nothings)

i knew there were alot of em but were there really 32 nothings in that version? that was a pretty cool effect, i closed my eyes and it actually sounded like a record skipping it was pretty fucking awesome, and spider (kidsmoke) was another highlight for me, it just sounded amazing especially when they kicked into high gear

but yeah....the yuppie discussion, it by no means was everyone, just a few people around me who didn't so much ruin the show, just took away from the expereince of being in the crowd. the music went untouched and was impeccable, wilco is a great live act and i'll definitelysee them again. nels cline was fucking insane...love that man. i guess yuppie was the wrong term to use but i was just pissed off at a select few and it's the first word i came up with

kevinjanes

It's okay doeslittle, just don't let it happen again >:( or you will be exiled and marooned on a desert island w/ those guys from the Wilco show...

ycartrob

doeslittle, I hear ya on Kidsmoke. I saw them last Sept here in Nashville and had one of my greatest concert moments ever when Kidsmoke kicked in. I closed my eyes and let it soak in, better than the record. When I saw them play it in Memphis a couple of months ago, I got to watch others being turned on. There was a guy on the front row of the balcony, losing his ever lovin' mind! Chill bumps just thinking about it... Can't wait until Thursday in Louisville.  ;D ;D

Long live rock, I need it every night-Pete Townsend.

kevinjanes

32 nothings? Someone actually started counting? Nerds.

Just kidding, I counted them too once in Nashville in Oct 2002, and sorry fella, but there were over 40 that night  :P

timbo

i believe i saw a rig set up taping mmj at philly.

can anybody verify.

ycartrob

Kevin, that was you at the 2002 show counting the nothings? I was wondering who that yuppie scum was counting nothings... ;)

Hi, my first post here, and my first MMJ show last night.  All I can say is, "Holy Shit"  What a phenominal live band.  I have just started getting into this band about a month ago, and was pretty pumped for this show last night.  They blew me away with their talent, and their overall ability rock the hell out.

One of the coolest parts of the night was when they were doing Golden, and from my vantage point the sun was setting right over Jim's head...he looked like a mystic rock god at that particular part in the show...

I can't wait to catch these guys again, hopefully they'll be headlining next time.
makes much more sense to live in the present tense

Yes, I can verify in fact that a friend of mine owned one of the 2 rigs that you saw. One is Shoeps mics the other I'm not sure but it looked like Shoeps too.
The Wilco set should be up at etree by now and the MMJ will be up at archive.org in a couple of days.
