Hi folks-

After some research on the concert recording sites I decided on a Sony MZ-RH910 using Core Sound "Stealthy" Binaural mics...

I used this setup to record my first show last night (and we may do DMB tomorrow) Had the rig about belt level, right near the soundboard for the first 3 songs then up closer for the rest (I couldn't resist)...

I have what I consider a pretty decent recording (480 MB about 45 minutes, .wav format) - good overall sound (actually better away from the soundboard), minimal distortion, average crowd noise/talking...battery too low for Wilco to be recorded too...

I would like the get this show out but would appreciate if anyone can suggest what to use to split it into tracks (Audacity?) and normalize, fade, or do whatever else is necessary...

I can look into all this myself but then it would be a while before I get it out...any help would be appreciated...

I use "cd wave editor" it's real easy and I love it.  For manipulating sound, Nero has a great wave editing tool.  Congratulations on the rig and the recording.  It's an adventure  ;)

I enjoyed the reading and did a little digging on recordable minidisk and the appeal to start recording my own shows is really starting to itch me. The recordres seem to be reasonably priced, I figure the really good mics will be where the investment lies. Now, how do you get your gear past the gate watchers that have confiscated the batteries from my camera where there were live show tapings? This happened to me at the Orange Peel and the Ga Theatre for Sound Tribe Sector 9 shows.

Well after much research and reading on taperssection.org I've learned a lot for my next recording...

I've been using Audacity to clean the sound a little (some normalizing and gain adjusts, compressing some loud screaming) and will use CD Wave for tracking...thanks for the input Sweatboard...

Had my Core Sound Omni's ("Binaural") clipped to the front inside of my shorts (figured they wouldn't go there) also these mics aren't much bigger than your standard set of headphones...MD player carried in by my brother's girlfriend in her purse within a tampon box - which most searchers avoid like the plague (thanx to a Beastie Boys site for that trick)...nonetheless the security was light at the door and there were cameras everywhere...with some imagination you should be able to get your gear in

Most excellent. Don't have a girlfriend, so if I dress in drag and explain that the operation is almost done....hmmm. I'm gonna have to work this out. Thanks for the gear tips too. I'm eyeballing a mindisk recorder on ebay now. I didn't realize those puppies were so dirt cheap. It's amazing more folks don't record. Guess nobody wants to deal with the hassle of gear.

Mucho Jerry Garcias for the great info.
