Welcome glorychords.  :)

Regarding VHS or Beta, I have heard a couple of their studio tracks which did not blow me away.  I saw them last year at one of the waterfront wednesday shows but they did not have my full attention, so I do not feel I should hype them either way.  One thing to keep in mind is that you should keep an open mind.  Give them a chance.  Even if you find that you do not like their music, I'm sure they work hard at what they do and they deserve respect for that if nothing else.

Quoteyeah, i've seen some good shows at the dame (iron and wine, and some other guys i know who are in bands around here), but other than that lex sucks (aside from uk athletics that is).  i was one of about 5 people that saw this band at the phoenix ballroom on short st. and that was a cool place...i dont know what's happened to it since, but i wish that place would have developed a little more...hopefully mmj gets big enough to play rupp in the future because that's the only other place to go in lex(although i saw dmb there in '98 and it was one of the worst venues i've been to for a concert)

hey another person here in Lexington!  Hmm, maybe when pearl jam comes back to play Rupp then we could get MMJ to be the opening band *dreams*

Anyways, I'll be there at the palace the night before Thanksgiving as well.  Haven't seen MMJ since the lebowskifeast.

4th street sucks unless you like the dance kind of places and trendy folks .

Hmm, wonder why they choose the palace instead of the gardens.

the gardens!? are you serious? the gardens is for ohio valley wrestling only.

ba

i wouldnt go to another show at rupp unless i got free tickets...at dmb, our seats were horrible and the acoustics were terrible...amphitheatres or small smokey venues are the best places to see a show (unless it's a bball game)  but yeah, 4th street isnt really for me unless i go w/ a lot of friends and get wasted..saddle ridge is the ony bar there i like because country music is fun when you're drinking heavily.  also, the place is just good for the city because lets face it, a lot of people trendy (everyone who looks like me is my friend haha)

ba

haha, i love to watch ohio valley wrestling if im ever home on a saturday night.  it's so ridiculous it seems sureal.  if i could ever get anyone to go with me, i would love to get trashed and go to that just to witness the mullets,  mesh tanktops, and rat tails on children under 10 yrs old.

Don't forget the overpriced Def Leppard/Cheap Trick shows and the unattended ABA.

You know, someone's mentioned having Cabin open up for MMJ at the Palace, but now that I've given it some thought, it really wouldn't be a bad idea having them open up before VHS or Beta.  I mean, Dave Cronin and Jake Heustis from Cabin did go to high school with Jim.  Why couldn't they work something out to help yet another up and coming band from Louisville?

guess I'm old, sorry  :'(

but Pearl Jam played there, INXS and the Black Crowes played there just to name a few bands that I know off the top of my head.

Quotehello yalls
for the folks who have never been to lville, it is a fun city..if not for the highlands and 4th street, however, the city would be worthless and sketchy...but those two areas make it fun for me (because i live in lexington and it sucks)...but i noticed how tix are more expensive for this show than the others..i havnt researched as to why this is, but they must be planning something special (a longer set possibly).  but if anyone has any thoughts on this, by all means share....(sorry if this has been discussed in a previous thread)

.....Got to respond to this one.....not wanting to start a Lexington vs. Louisville war.....but saying that Louisville is "worthless and sketchy" except for the Highlands and 4th Street--Are you fing kidding me?  Have you ever been to Crescent Hill, Old Louisville, Seneca Park, St. Matthews, the waterfront, the miles and miles of parks, East Market art corridor, etc., etc., etc. etc.  WTF???

....It is so funny how many people in Lexington think Louisville is a dark, grimmy, urban, and unsafe place.  That comment seems to really solidify that generalization.

For what it's worth Lexington is a cool town as well with several unique characteristics--and it would be sweet if the Jacket could find a venue to play there.

ba

yeah, i agree louisville is a lot better than lexington.  i didnt mean to categorize the entire city into a ghetto (minus the highlands) but it does have its gloomy, unsafe side.  and i've been to st matthews and old louisville but i just dont spend a lot of time there.  my sis lives in st matthews and it's nice and all.  old louisville is cool as well.  they would be be nice places to live, just not to go out and have fun, in my opinion.  i've been to a few shows at the waterfront too.  but i guess i was being a little to hard on the city, though i do love it (especially compared to lexington).

I'm sorry but I've actually walked through the projects of downtown louisville when I was in the high school with one of my friends.  Think two teenaged little white girls walking through that area of town and no one bothered us.

I got lost in my car here in the projects in Lexington and it scared the shit out me!

IMO Lousiville is a much better town and not a snobby as Lexington.

how in the hell did you get lost in downtown lexington?  haha, jk but it's so small.  downtown louisville, on the other hand is much more convoluted.  it is a bigger city so more "ghettoness" is to be expected.  lexington does have its share of unsafe areas but it's only in the area north of main st.  (short street - new circle road).  but i wouldnt expect you to get murdered or anything like that in either city.  but i've been lost downtown in louisville and was literally chased around a taco bell by a guy wanting money.  a little off the subject, but cincinnatti is probably one of the worst cities in terms of urban plight in this area.  walk around downtown there and see how much you get "bothered"

peanut butter puddin surprise

yo, cities of any size are gonna have issues.  louisville has them, lexington has them, cincinnati has them.  there are some mighty fine places in da ville.  there's bad people everywhere...

Word.

PLUS, I don't even judge a neighbourhood anymore by whether it's "good" or "ghetto".  I've had some pretty crap experiences in the "good" neighbourhoods, as well as some totally fine experiences in the "ghettos".  In fact, one of the best experiences of my life was with a "sketchy" person.

ba

by sketchy, i mean a cracked out, billigerent, a$$hole who f's w/ people minding their own business.  im sure the greatest moment in your life didnt happen with someone like that...or who knows, maybe it did and makes one hell of a story.  these are the people, from my personal experiences, that make up the rough parts of cities.  but yeah, they're everywhere...just so happens that more reside in bigger cities
