You all are just doin it up right with these tales of your Jacket experiences! Some of you should publish your stuff, or blog it at the very least. Good stuff.

Is it a stretch to say that it appears the Jacket touches people far more deeply than other music? And when you are touched, you become obsessed, ravenous for more...this band delivers time and time again.

Can't wait to read more, keep on...keep on and thank you for sharing!!

This shot is heavenly:
But seein you feels good, and its always understood.
That anything much sweeter would make me die.

Bonnaroo was about two things for me this year....Les Claypool and My Morning Jacket.

Mission Accomplished.  Hehe.

Leaving Andrew Bird I saw Jim, Bo and a small entourage heading towards What Stage and I didn't want to bug any of them, but I did say Jim's name and when he turned around I shook his hand and let him know that I was looking forward the show.  I don't get freaked out by musicians or anything, so I usually don't care if I meet them, but Jim James has written so many songs that have changed my life, so it was very special for me just to give him some kind words.

Bright Eyes:  I've seen him a few times, always a great show.  I was standing halfway through the crowd, even when all the guests started coming out, but when he asked if there was a Jim James around, I beelined for the front.  And while it was only for one song...it was excellent.

And that epic show of course.  Wow.  Being able to see Andrew Bird perform with the band would have been a special occasion to speak of anyway.  With such a wonderously long set though...wow.  And The Band.......perfect.

I can't add much more than what anyone else in here has said, so I'll leave it at that.  The only thing of substance that I can add is that My Morning Jacket is already legendary in my book.  Sheer artistic integrity and a love of life and music seem to encompass the My Morning Jacket ethos.  And for me, that's what makes them all so original and special.

Oh.....and Patrick....many have said it before, and I feel the need to say it again....YOU ARE THE MOTHERFUCKIN' MAN!

Good day!

I've been lurking on the forums for a while, but I finally registered just to post about the bonnaroo show.  Bonnaroo '06 was my fourth time seeing MMJ (my favorite band in the history of forever), so I had already witnessed the way that they lead their crowds on magical journeys through the world of music; however this show stuck out in my mind as soon as I saw that they were given a 2 1/2 hour slot.  Once we arrived on-site I began to hear rumors that the guys were going to play as long as the bonnaroo people would let them, which further excited me.

I had planned on arriving at least an hour before the show started with my friends, but we lost one of the guys after the Seu Jorge show earlier in the day, and he didn't reappear at camp until 11.  By the time we got to That Tent, there were already several thousand people there.  We worked our way to the heart of the crowd; when the band took the stage, we were about 100 feet back.   The concert itself was hands down the best show I've ever attended in my life; only two shows even come close - MMJ at City Hall last October and The Tragically Hip at the 930 club a couple years ago.

I was amazed by how many of my favorite songs they pulled out that I hadn't heard them play before (xmas curtain, THE BEAR, evelyn, twilight, phone went west), but it was all of the covers in the second set that really blew me away, especially It Makes No Difference.

Anyway, I can't really put into words how amazing my experience was during the show.  I rocked out and sang at the top of my lungs for the entire show, and was so sore I didn't think I would be able to make it back to camp after the show ended.  It was all worth it though - this was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

My first MMJ and Bonnaroo. Many of the bands there I knew and like, yet MMJ was on the top of my list to see. Like everyone else has described, it was absolutely incredible and really was a religious experience. The highlight for me was the cover of The Band's "It Makes No Difference" - i just had to sit down it was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. In that interesting way at such times when things seem to be perfect and foreordained, me and my friends absolutely knew that "Run Thru" would drop as the finale, and man did it ever.

Since then, I just cannot stop thinking about that show. I get chills thinking about it. I'm ready for next year...

Wow.  That was simply the most amazing concert I've ever seen.  Nothing else at Bonnaroo came close, though there were many interesting acts that played well.  I first became aware of the band through the Bonnaroo '04 DVD and went out and bought Z after it received a favorable Rolling Stone review.  That DVD lead me and my drummer to take our wives to our first Bonnaroo this year and MMJ were definitely on the list of "must sees".  Nothing could have prepared us for what we witnessed, though.  The intensity and beauty were almost overwhelming - definitely agree with the earlier post about the high-impact song endings.  Someone nearby said he had seen them 12 times and this was the best.  That might be true, but even so, I'm going to see them whenever I can and buy all the CDs.  Oh, and I won the silent auction for the signed guitar.  Don't bother - it ain't for sale!

What's the silent auction?  :)
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

stevejamming....you lucky bastard!  Hehe.  Congratulations and Welcome!  There are many wonderful MMJ shows in your future!

re: what silent auction
They auctioned off a bunch of artist-related items for charity at the festival.  You basically visit the booth, write down a bid, then check back frequently to see if it "stands".  I did get in a bit of a bidding war (with another fan and not an investor, thank god), but I would not be denied!
Details:  My wife, the power-shopper in this family, actually saw it first and recommended I check it out - I never would have visited the booth myself.  It's an Epiphone Les Paul copy, with a white faceplate that has the Bonnaroo 2006 logo on it and was signed by all 5 members of MMJ.  Sweet! (and that wife of mine is a real keeper, eh?)
