hello. i was just wondering if anyone else is going to the edinburgh, scotland show at cabaret voltaire. i saw mmj at bonnaroo for the second time this summer, and as i wasn't completely awake or sober, wanted to see them again as soon as possible. they hadn't yet been added to lollapalooza when i saw two edinburgh tix on ebay and decided to go. never been to scotland before. a few days ago i got plane tix (from my home in austin, texas)! and a crappy hostel reservation, and i'm set! quite a crazy and spontaneous trip. i hope the show is amazing! and that i manage to find my way around the city in all the craziness of the largest arts festival in the world. just found out that's what they're playing as part of today. should be quite interesting...

hey, and hello!
the trip to scotland sounds really exciting!!! naturally mmj will be great, and hope you have a good time in edinburgh - from what i've heard, a very interesting place. good time to go with the arts festival on too!
love a song for the way it makes you feel

All the way to Scotland to see the Jacket? Wow, good for you Katehsmc!
Hope you have a good trip, let us know all about it when you get back  :)
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

You have a fab time. I'm going to Glasgow myself. Not sure if any of the regular board members are going to Edinburgh but they'll soon let us know if they are. It'll be a friendly crowd for sure. Edinburgh will be busy during the festival - maybe you'll see some other shows - I like the comedy shows best. It's not that big a place though, so you'll find your way around ok.

yep me and a mate are going.  I live north of edinburgh but are staying there the weekend to go to the gig.  If u need any advice etc...

katehsmc

if you have any advice on a place to stay, that would be great. when i got the show and plane tickets, i didn't know about the festival and how hard it would be to find a hostel. i booked one online and then never got a confirmation and they won't answer the phone. none of the other ones have open room for the whole time (21st-27th). any advice on that situation would be great! thanks.
also, have you been to the club before? it looked great online; i'm really excited to see them in such a small venue. that would never happen in the states anymore.

Hey katehsmc,
You could look here http://www.edfringe.com/story.html?id=1016&area_id=33

It's from the fesival fringe website.

Maybe verlaine will have some more specific info. You could give him/her a pm.
Good luck  :)

I would have thought hostels would have been your best bet.  I'd chase up that hostel u booked with to make sure but u could just turn up and try and find a bed when u arrive but with the festival that could of course be dodgy.  I've never been to the venue myself but my mate says its good, and yes it isnt that big so it's a great chance to see MMJ in a smaller venue.

Oh you'll have fun for sure.  Edinburgh has a pretty good bus system, but you can walk almost everywhere.  And during the Festival, people are out and around at all points of the day, so you're fairly safe (or I felt so anyhow).  Which hostel did you book?  Just so you know, hostels only prebook a certain amount to leave room for walk-ins, so if you get there right after the turnaround time (usually 1pm or 2pm), you can get yourself a spot.  If you're going by yourself, you don't have to worry too much because you'll find that all you need to do is sit down at a pub, and pretty soon you'll be chatting with people.  You can feel free to pm me if you want, too - I think I have all my old brochures and numbers and stuff. :)  You'll have a great time!!  Just be careful of the roads.  It took me a long time to get used to where the cars were coming from the streets.  Seriously.

The show was listed as sold out on several ticket sites, but I eventually found some through Ticket Web. They no longer have any but there are more up on ebay. (The last ones went for $75 for 2. Quite pricey). It's the same seller from last week, so I guess we know who bought up all the tickets. He says it only holds 250 people, so it may be impossible to get tickets any other way. The Glasgow show isn't sold out yet though; that's just an hour train ride from Edinburgh.

I got a room with UniXtra. The hostel takes over dorm rooms for the festival. It's a 15 minute walk to the castle, but I thought having a private room would be worth the wallk. And no closer hostels had all my dates open. Also some of the best looking ones only had single sex dorms, and I'm going with my boyfriend, so I didn't want to be separated from him.
I'm sure we'll meet lots of people. We have several friends of friends to call for advice on where to go. We're looking forward to it!

Thanks Katehsmc, and Riny.

Shame, it's my girlfriend's birthday as well. I'd already bought tickets for the London gig, but had an all too late idea to surprise her. :(
