Dallas show confusion!

Well, first of all, I am glad that they're coming back to TX -it's only been a year but they've played here a *lot* over the past five years.   I will celebrate the five year anniversary of my first-ever MMJ show on October 25.  I've always called it "a date which shall live in infamy" (ripping off President Roosevelt's line about Pearl Harbor) - because they took us and they shook us around and I've never been the same ever since that first show.  That's the truth, too!
Anyway, as much of a madhouse as it'll be there is no choice when it comes to going, is there?!?   It's like a known fact.   When someone does something nice for you, you say "thank you".  "You need a motorcar, you pluck it from the trees.   You want pretty polly...you *take* it" -Alex in 'A Clock-
work Orange"
When I saw that they were playing the Gypsy Theatre, I was wondering whether it was actually the Granada Theatre, which holds about 2000 (?) as opposed to the Gypsy Tea Room, whose ballroom holds about 500.  They played the GTR last November and we were packed like sardines.    I *wish* it was the Granada, anyway!   When I went to their respective websites, though, it looks like the Gypsy Tea Room has booked Pretty Girls Make Graves and two other bands in the "ballroom", the bigger of the two rooms.  It's highly unlikely that MMJ would be asked to play in the "tea room" as they did on October 18, 2003.
They made their first "ballroom" appearance exactly two years ago tomorrow (opened with 'Oxen', it was awesome) - Wilco were playing at the Granada that night and the crowd was kind of sparse compared to last year's pack-fest.
The Granada's website has A Flock of Seagulls playing there on November 17.  So far the Gypsy Tea Room has no MMJ dates up on its calendar.   Gypsy Theatre could possibly be a place in Dallas that I have never heard of.   Do any of you hipsters know?  I hope to be able to meet up with some of y'all this time - yeh, you might be able to meet the world's oldest living MMJ fanatic!

Have fun,

(nothing like replying to your own post, but...) - well, I either looked at it wrong or something sent me an email but the website actual does have it listed as Gypsy Tea Room, not Gypsy Theatre, so it must've been an email I saw (a friend in GA sent it to me once he saw it).   Now the only question is will they have to play the 'tea room', which holds about 200-250 - that would be awfully crowded and the tickets will be snapped up in about 20 minutes!

I was kind of worried that I didn't see them listed on the club's website. Maybe it's just not up yet and they are playing two nights because they could only get the tea room by the time they booked it ? Even if it's crowded, I'd much rather see them in the smallest place possible.
Hopefully the site will post the info soon,

BH

George!  Where have you been my friend.

You probably already knew this, but did you see the youtube videos that just got put up from Austin '03.  Watch the War Begun video.  Jim gives you a shout out! ;D
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

This is confusing - the venue is listed as the Gypsy Theatre on MMJ's site, but the link is to the Gypsy Tea Room, so I'm sure the "Theatre" part is just a mistype. The date conflict and the fact that the Gypsy itself doesn't have MMJ on their calendar is perplexing though. I'm sure the Gypsy wouldn't want to miss out on the number of tickets that MMJ would sell for a show in the ballroom, so surely we won't be stuck in the smaller venue...
Hey, I was at that show 2 years ago (and last year)  too, it was totally a mind-altering event.

they will be playing at
The Gypsy Tea Room... in The Ballroom

Crispy

Thanks for the confirmation, CC. Will MMJ be playing both nights as indicated, and if so, what will happen to those poor She Wants Revenge fans?

CC

yes, both nights.

She Wants Revenge is playing the 18th.
venue site has it wrong.

I've never been to the Gypsy Tea Room.. does it really only 500 or so? if you dont get there too early are you stuck in the back? i have a final that night and hopefully will be finished with it in time to make it before the opening band goes on but no clue what time they will go on

hate they are playing friday night as well while the Who will be playing .. MMJ thursday night and the Who friday night is tough to beat

katehsmc

i read it holds about 750 people. i would think you'd need to start worming your way up to the front by the time the opener is on. i have a test that day too, so i'll be fighting traffic from austin to try to get there in time to get a good spot.

JohnnyRage

I got my tickets for thurs. and fri today. I'm thinking about buying an austin ticket making it MMJ three nights in a row!

Oh man, I'm such an idiot - I didn't get my tickets for Friday's show before they sold out! Does anybody know if some more are available from Front Gate or the local record stores? I can not end my 2-year streak of Dallas MMJ shows!  :-/
