new song...???   hell yes!

QuoteMove On Up (new song  :D :D :D)
Are you sure it wasn't a cover of the Curtis Mayfield classic? The boys would kill that, especially with an orchestra!
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

The DARK

It could have been, but it mentioned that there was a new song on the other thread and unless it's missing from the setlist... :-/

I'm almost positive that this is a cover and not a new song.  It was fantastic with the orchestra.

i read on Rolling Stone that it was a Curtis Mayfield song called "Keep On Pushing"
If you're lucky, MMJ will fill the void you didn't even know you ever had. If you're luckier, you'll get to see them live.

Jernigan

It was definitely some solid gold 70's shit......so I'm going with a cover.

I have about a minute and a half of footage of it. As well with the whole
runt time of "Anytime" ( which bolsters a rare Carl fuck up ) ? I think it was
Carl......anyhow, I got Gideon too, and some of just one thing, and the end
of Run Thru, and the cover.

I'll have them up soon, oh yeah, and all of Laylow.

Jernigan

And a little bit of dancefloors too! But you probably don't
want to hear about it much, and would just rather I post
it already......I'm working on it.

Oh yeah, Jim accidentally came out and said lovely "shitty" of Chicago...so funny
total accident, but funny none the less.

And to a many displeasure, I was not in viewing of Bo, or Patrick. :-[ But what
can you do? There were so many people there, and I arrived in the middle of
KOL..........The boy's made me proud though. You could tell they were stoked.

Alright, next time I post, I'll be putting the youtube links up.

Cheers for now,

-MJ

Quoteand the cover.

THAT'S what I wanted to hear!

Thanks Jernigan!

Sounds like it was fun! How many kids were in the orchestra? And are we talking little kids of 17/18 year olds?

I saw a couple pics on Getty - with the Candy Land(?) backdrop. Could you decipher the "theme" Carl and Patrick mentioned they were working on?

Jernigan, can't WAIT to see your clips & photos. I haven't got one good shot. :(

The show was so truly electric & Fun. There was a anticipatory buzz before they came on.

They all came out wearing purple suit jackets (velvet?) with black vests, pants and ties. They seemed so humbled but at the same time truly owning that stage. We couldn't see really well. We had gone to see Iggy & the Stooges set (which was pure Iggy craziness, he invited half the audience come up on stage to dance....and they did!). So we booked over to the other side of the fest ( a good half mile) and tried to get as close as we could - an hour before the show. We sat in the midst of a bunch of PJ fans. They were very cool, afteward they were nodding and smiling. One of them said to ChiefOkono and I that he was now a believer! :)

Anyhow, it was really hard to gauge what was happening on stage but the sound was incredible. The candyland backdrop was a surprise and very fitting with the kids theme. Opening with Anytime was a good choice - the crowd got into it. I think Jim has a new black guitar - it was so shiny and the sound was crisp. We were dancing our asses off, I always feel like non-Jacket fans might think it's a bit much but we didn't care. It was a great night and the skyline was gorgeous.

Obviously, Z was the record of the day - Gideon with the Children's orchestra was moving. They showed clips of the kids as they were playing and so many of them had these HUGE smiles on their faces. I couldn't see how many were up there but when we saw them in Chicago it seemed to be about 20.  One of the highlights for me was Just One Thing....right before the show it looked like it was going to storm and suddenly the skies were clear & blue and there was a nice breeze...ahh, the Jacket outdoors is truly wonderful. The accents by the orchestra gave the show an almost brand-new take on songs like Golden - which was clearly impressive to the PJ people.

The other highlight had to be Move On Up - the soul was front and center. Jim was singing so sweetly. I love hearing what they cover, it's never predictable. Anyhow, I am hoping this one was taped. It needs to be heard by all of this forum.

And a quick note to the forum members we did meet - Sky, Collen and Ms. Yvon. Good to see smiling faces and meet some of you. Missed seeing the others but we just couldn't get that close - and we didn't want to be "those" kind of people. All in all the Jacket set was the high point for me....and that's sandwiched between Iggy and PJ.
But seein you feels good, and its always understood.
That anything much sweeter would make me die.

Nice review Jacketgirl.  Thanks!
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Jim kinda looks like Yusuf Islam with that haircut.

I'd love to hear him do "Don't Be Shy".

All I can say is the Boys done good.  My two highlights were "Just 1 Thing" (Actually my highlight of the entire fest) and "Dancefloors."  I have always loved Dancefloors live and having the horns playing behind them live made it even better.  As far as Just 1 Thing, it was amazing how in a huge crowd and festival setting, that song didn't lose any of its intimacy, I loved it.  The whole show was great and should have created a whole new batch of fans.

Before Pearl Jam came on, we were standing next to some guys who were telling their friends (who had watched Modest Mouse instead) that they thought MMJ was the best band they had seen all weekend.

I'm so freakin jealous that they played Just One Thing. I love that song. It's in my "white whale shortlist," which includes:

Just one thing
At Dawn
Hopefully

Still haven't seen any of these live. It's just a matter of time...

Will someone please second that Jim and the boys would absolutely MURDER

Goodbye Yellowbrick Road by Elton John.  If I ever meet him I'm gonna tell him.

That's not a bad suggestion. i know that jim loves that song, you should tell him if you meet him.  I don't think I have a white whale song but I have some songs I haven't heard in years that I'd love them to bring back:
honest man
war begun
tyrone

Unbelievable set.  I really hope this show somehow surfaces...... but I havent seen many torrents up from Lolla shows in the past  :-/

Will be a shame if there is no recording of either show mmj did with the chicago youth symphony orchestra
