HOUSE SOUND in HOUSTON

open note to anyone involved in mixing for the show monday:

i saw a show there last night near the middle of the stage.  all of the sound up there was band amp/monitor driven. the only monitors for the crowd are at opposite ends of the EXTREMELY WIDE stage.  the vocals often got lost in the guitars (unless an acoustic song).

it definitely felt like a venue space issue, not a mixer issue.  the sound may have been terrific further back toward the sound board.

please see if there is ANYTHING you mixers can do to help even out the sound up front.  it's a drag to have to make the decision to enjoy the energy of the show close to the stage, or hear the mix of the show from further back in the room.

i know you're creative people and technicians and this is what you do without someone having to point it out.  just wanted to give you a heads up.

(also, this place is big, not meaning the capacity, but the vast, empty space.  and it's painted flat black.  i'll just think of it as a blank slate for the show's lighting!)

MMJ has some of the best sound guys in the BIZ...im sure everything will be perfect for their first show.
God damn those shaky knees.

 [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  i'm sure you're right.

i met a girl in a cafe today who was at the show last night (she had a wilco now. button on her hat).  i asked her about the sound where she'd been standing.  she said the house monitor on the right side wasn't working properly so she had to relocate.

c'mon verizon theater!  get your gear working!

every show that i've seen here from the front had poor vocal levels. i do hope that you bringing it up here might bring it to someone's attention that can affect it.

how'd you like the wilco show?

had a terrific time!  i think there's a thread in the other people's music forum.  not sure.
