its taken 100 hours and 3000 miles of travel to finally grasp what went on at Coachella. first off, i must encourage anyone who has yet to check out this fest to see it for yourself. it was the most clean, best sounding, best laid out, most hospitable festival i have ever been a part of...i've been to a good amount of them both here and abroad.

now to what we all care about, the MMJ set. as this was the reason i went west, i was a ball of nerves from when i left Autolux's amazing set on the 2nd stage all thru the hour and ten minutes wait for our guys on the main stage. once they hit i began jumping up and down, waiting for that first note. they walked on stage to the same canned strings which proceed Evil Urges on the SXSW recording. instead of starting us off with a taste of the new, they decided to blow our faces off with One Big Holiday. with the exception of the frenzy for Price hitting the stage, i can honestly say this was the best moment of the fest. anyone and everyone freaking out, 25K+ strong at sunset. following up w/ Off The Record featuring M.Ward was the perfect way to make sure they had the crowd by the proverbial shorthairs. the new songs sounded much tighter than SXSW, naturally, and were pretty well accepted by the crowd. as their hour went by like a hiccup, it was clear that they brought every ounce of everything we all love about MMJ to this very short set (one hour on the dot).

my blanket observation of the show was an enjoyment of the new songs and the new fans who will come with. i'm usually the normal guy who hates when a band goes from bars to stadiums, but MMJ is different. the bigger it gets, the better it gets. sure, i'd love them to play 1k clubs forever, but it would never be fair to the SOUND. i was with some mega-fans and some newbies, SF heads and Philly diehards...everyone left smiling.

June 20th can't come fast enough!

Feelin in my bones

:D  Isn't Coachella AWESOME?! This year was our 3rd year in a row going. We grew up in southern CA, so we spend a lot of time there and just plan on going every year. It's something we really look forward to doing! I first heard MMJ in the beginning of the movie "The Lookout" , in March 2007.  After that I started doing some research, and found that I really liked all their music. So, when I found out they were going to be at Coachella, I was really exited! I really did enjoy the set, though I REALLY wanted to hear Golden, and Bermuda Highway..... my favorites. My Birthday's on the 22nd of this month, (the date of the Jim James accoustic show in London) and that'll be my birthday wish.....Ha ha ha ha....(ya' right?) I can't wait until I get the chance to see another show...... I really have come to love this music!!     :)
