a bunch of questions about MMJ Shows

My first My Morning Jacket show is in a little less then 3 weeks, and I'm so pumped!
But I have a bunch of questions about the show:
1. If the gates open at 6:30, what time should my friends and I show up to get a good spot and a poster (if it matters, I'm probably gonna be the only one getting a silk screen).  I'm thinking about 5:45, but should we get there earlier?
2. Are poster tubes provided, or do I have to bring my own?
3. Are moshing and crowdsurfing standard practice at their shows, or would I look like an asshole if I tried to crowdsurf or start a pit?
4. This one's for people who know philly well.  Are there any good Pizza/ Buger/ Cheesesteak places within walking distance from Penn's Landing?  Because my friends and I are probably going to get dinner while standing in line.
5. How much do shirts and posters cost?
Thanks in advance, ;)

1-I would show up at least 2 hours early to get in the front. Im going to the Festival Pier show as well and plan on setting up camp aroung 3:30/4:00. So yes, you should get there much earlier. Also affecting this is the shitty way the Pier does admission. You stand in line but they have 5 security stations; if you get stuck with a slow or picky security guard people who were behind you will get in front of you. Its a  shitty setup.

2-Bring your own tube. At Louisville they gave you a bracelet when you paid for the poster and you picked it up after the show to save it from being damaged, but they'll give it to you if you have a tube

3-Dancing, jumping, and other forms of grooving are what you see the most. Ive never seen a pit and I dont think it would be welcomed. In extreme circumstances (ie-Louisville) Ive seen some crowd surfing, but its not an every-show thing.

4-Not within walking distance. From the pier the best place to go would be South St, about 2 miles away. Good pizza (Lorenzo's), steaks (Jims), and Mexican food (Manny Browns).

Hope that helps
Say friend, you got any more of that good sasparilla?

Sorry, forgot the last question

Posters are usually $25-$30, and t-shirts are $30

I'm not going to be able to get there until around 5 or so (because of school), where in line would that place me?
also, is there food in the venue, cause i might do that for dinner if pressed.

School? Do yourself a favor and bug out early. Trust me. I think they have food at the Pier, Im pretty sure they did the last time I was there though. You're going to pay out the ass though. Last time I was there a beer and a mixed drink for the ol' lady cost $22 lol.

Don't listen to j_rud about leaving school early, just go ahead and drop out b/c your brain won't be functioning correctly for another month or so after the show...

seriously though, get there as early as possible and mingle. Get up in the krunk and get ready to go ape shit. MMJ crowds are friendly. If this old fart can survive the krunk, then you can. You know that feeling you get when you listen to MMJ on CD or record or whatever? Multiply that by 100. I cannot hype this enough, it will be that good, trust me.

And we will want to hear all about it.

That is the thing that sticks out to me the most. Ive never had a serious problem at an MMJ show. People are always friendly, theres a minimal amount of pushing and jockeying for position, and theres just a general good vibe. Man, I cant wait for DC...and Philly...and New Years.. :D

As for not being able to hype the show enough; I was saying the same thing to a kid at the Louisville show who was seeing them for the first time. He asked if it was going to "get crazy" and I said "nothing I say can prepare you for this. Im just going to let it speak for itself". Then they shocked the 10,000 in attendance and opened with a blistering "Anytime". He turned around and his eyes were like saucers lol. "Hey, I warned ya"  ;D

skipping school is hard as hell for me, cause its a catholic school in wilmington, I can't drive, and my friends going with me go to school about 45 minutes away.  I'll try though.  And if i can't skip school and get there at 5, will there still be posters left?
Also, is there any possiblity of Jim playing going to acupolo? cause after I saw I'm not there, I've really wanted to see him play that.

You should be able to get a poster. And although they've been dusting off 2 or 3 old/rare tunes for each show, I wouldnt count on Going To Acapulco though.

Ya know, Ive been thinking, you need to treat this day with the appropriate reverence and urgency. You need to bag school, be a rebel for the day. Take a bus to the city and bum around for the day. Get some good food and Philadelphia culture. Despite what people will tell you its an awesome city and the birthplace of our nation. See Independence Hall and grab a cheesesteak. Walk along Penns Landing and stop by Dave and Busters. Then go to the concert and get blown the fuck away. Make a day of it man, really. You wont regret it.

j_rud brings up an excellent point... you're more likely to learn more about our country's history by skipping school and enjoying yourself in a historic place like that, than you would stuck in a classroom all day.

I went to Catholic school.  I only skipped one day and it took a lot of planning.  I had my sister write a note "from my mom" that said I had a doctors appointment at 12:45 pm.   A friend of mine got a similar note but for earlier and something different and it actually worked.

The only problem is, we just spent the afternoon at the mall and you are going to see MY MORNING JACKET!   I'm an idiot!

(However we did get a chance to make a phycadelic video of us lip synching In Living Colour's Cult of Personality at a travelling MTV display.  Seriously, I can't make this shit up people.)

You'll have a blast no matter what time you get there!
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

One day? I think I skipped every Friday afternoon of my senior year. I certainly wasnt a role model back then but I did well enough to get into a decent college lol. You guys gotta live a little! Especially when we're talking about the best live band in the world!

Ha ha! This reminds me of the sage advice my older sister gave me when I started high school.  She told me that the first time I ever stayed home sick and had my mom write a note, I should throw that note away and write my own.  That way my handwriting would be the only one on file and then that "one" day, when I needed to, I could write my own note(s).  It worked perfectly. I mean, I imagine it would have worked perfectly. 8-)
