Hey kids...have any of you been to the Palladium in Dallas?  I'm just wondering what to expect when I go see Jim and the boys there.  These ticket prices are outrageous with the ticketmaster fees...it's a total ripoff.

Get used to it. Prices for shows there and at HOB are more expensive than other smaller/"indie" venues. There aren't many of those "indie" venues left that can accomodate MMJ. Possibly the Granada.

I've been to one show at the Palladium; it was seated in the front section with GA in the back. This show is all GA, so get there early if you want a good spot up front near the stage.

MMJ at Granada would be nice!  8-)

saw band of horses at palladium a few months ago. it was alot bigger than i thought. not bad, but get there early. we are tailgating to ensure a good seat. still loved night one from gypsy a few years ago.

I'm pissed I'm gonna miss the Dallas show - going to Red Rocks and planned some more CO activities afterwards. I'll miss the Gypsy too, that's where my MMJ cherry was broken in 2004! ::)

I'm not a fan of the palladium, I saw the crowes there and didn't like it. It was just one big open room and it feels like there is no back where the stage is, almost as if the stage is some what in the middle. I sure will miss the Tea Room, saw them in 06 and it was the best concert Ive been to hands down.

I think they should have played Nokia, they could fill that up couldnt they? By the way, Im basically driving straight to the Palladium from the airport on my way back from Red Rocks! If you see a guy pass out due to having his face melted twice in 3 days, revive with cold brew ha. Thanks!

you got it man...whatever they have on tap is yours

H-Town Doug

I will be there driving from Houston. 2 questions:  whats a good time to get there?  How to you become a fan club member?  Any input would be appreciated. ::)

Does anyone know of any way to circumvent these ridiculously high Ticketbastard fees?

Note, the Palladium has 2 sides to it.   There is the big side, and then there is the smaller Gilley's side.  Band of Horses and Wolf Parade played the small side, which is about the size of the Gypsy Tea Room (RIP).  The other larger size, is just a big open space.   There are bars on the left and right side, and in the back.  There are only 2 levels, the main level, and then 3 steps up for another level.  So, it is basically flat, but if you are extremely short, you might want to grab a spot in the back or side, up a step.  The sound is okay, and suprisingly they really do not crank it up to fill the whole place with sound.  They could probably turn it up a notch.  No smoking, you have to smoke outside on the patio.

Its okay, but as mentioned definitely not as intimate as GTR (either side).

Circumvent ticketmaster, go to their box office (which is open during other shows) and buy directly from the venue.  I dont know for sure if that is cheaper, but I dont see how they could tack on fees to that.

There shows usually start earlier than Trees or GTR shows in the past.  If the tickets say 7, I would assume MMJ would go on a 7:45-8, but that is nothing official.  Just saying that they dont start at 11pm like "clubs" in the past.  Is there an opener for this "Evening With" shows?

I'm pretty sure there isn't an opener. I think the "evening with" typically indicates no opener.

I've only been to one show at the Palladium prior to this one. I'll be honest, the venue leaves much to be desired. The inside reminds me of an old Skyy Bar or something. Very cheesy and corporate feeling. Perhaps I'm just spoiled by the Cain's Ballroom. They sell full mixed drinks at the bars, and they take credit cards, which means ridiculously long lines. At concert venues, it should be beer only, and cash only. If you want to drink Appletinis you should stay at home. I remember the lines for the bathrooms being exasperating as well.

Basically it has no charm whatsoever. It's just a building with no history that serves as a place for bands to play. Which I guess is a necessity. It just sucks that this venue will be my first MMJ live experience.

MMJ will make up for the venue.  Cain's (in Tulsa, OK) is a pretty sweet venue.  And they will sell you a 6 pack of beer (but its that crappy okie 3.2), but if you have 6 in front of ya, there is no need to keep going back to the bar.  I might go see Conor O'berst there in Sept.

Get up close at the Palladium and it will be alright.

Hey, welcome fellow Okie! Ditto about Cain's - I keep pimping that place, I'm just sure someday we'll be rockin out with MMJ there.
Now, about Dallas - don't make that your first show - you should road trip up to Red Rocks with me and my crew! Even if you are a sooner fan...;)

Hey guys thanks for the welcome and good to be here. It's nice to see Cain's getting some love. The six pack thing IS pretty sweet. Can't beat being set on drinks for an entire show.

Don't remind me about Denver. I'm a big fan of the Keys as well. It makes me ill to have to miss that one. Damn weeknight shows. Why couldn't it at least have been on a Friday night??! Ugh.

I do share your hope that one fateful day we'll see MMJ at the Home of Bob Wills.

I officially swallowed my disdain today and forked over the $25 in service fees for two tix to the Dallas show. See you guys there.
